The tattoos on the side of eyes or on eyelids clearly indicate ex-cons, former prisoners. Such tattoos are a part of a jail code called grypsera. Such men are to be avoided.

Like the little plastic ball (usually from a pen) inserted under the skin half way down the wotsit and held in place by scar tissue. To avoid.

You must have seen me. No, I wasn`t in jail but I belonged to a youth gang as a teenager and one of our gang`s rites of entrance was sznyty - cuts on forearm with a safety razor.

Those are called sznyty. Probably from Yiddish - to cut.

They are cuts made with razors to show "bravery." In the criminal world, bravery has it's own twisted meaning. Some wannabe bad guys self mutilate too.

Sznyty - common term referring to scarring, which is the result of deliberate self-harm of individual who is wishing in this way for possible clearly and permanently mark the skin of his body. It is a specific ornament which should indicate the courage and resilience of the person to pain, or identify this person as the associated to a particular community. In primitive societies it's a method of decorating the body, in civilized societies is popular among criminals, as prison inmates and in numerous youth subcultures. It is also a method of proving "masculinity" among adolescents, mostly male, by proving resistancy to pain.

Sometimes the cuts also makes a person who wants to overcome in this way own psychic pain, for example it can be an expression of despair resulting from the separation from a loved one. Sometimes such cutting can become even a habit. Such persons can then gradually cut on all, still intact parts of the body. This indicates that it is a form of building relationships with the world by making yourself the pain which suppose to feel it. Often this is an attempt to draw attention on oneself.

Those sznyty are in Poland an equivalent to mating colours in other species - the more sznyty a male have the more manly and attractive he appears to women, the above picture would make many knees weak in Poland

My one friend has several deep cuts on his arms. He said he got in a knife fight with another Polish guy while in Spain. So yes its from fighting, i dunno about gangs but hooliganism definitely.

That is true, Poles are stupid when they imitate Western foolishness.

It is Far from Disgusting mochadot. It just shows how ignorant you are on the subject. I would love for you to say that to any of them face to face. Better yet if you ever end up in prison 10 to 1 says you will stay Very Quiet. .

It's a fear tactic. If you see a white dude you're probably not gonna be very afraid of him, but when you add all these scars and cuts it puts a person very on edge, especially gunshot wounds and stab wounds. Might make even the hardest criminal think twice about getting involve with that guy.

why be afraid of someone who looks all beat up?all that means is that they know how to get hit/stabbed/shot and probably arent good enough/ smart enough to avoid it.
