if course they are different.

my point was: very many similarities -> you expect more from them -> the differences are more jarring

do you understand what I was trying to say now?

Similarities - superficial, or coincidental. Differences - deep and serious, like with the Germans. List is long. There's probably more of similarities between Poles and Czechs, Slovaks, or Sorbs, than between Poles and Russians.

There are surely more similarities between Poles, Czechs and Slovaks as they are Western Slavs

Russian and Poles - yes, no problem. Russian and Polish governments - not so much. ;)

Yes, they are at odds. Although PIS government seems to inadvertently copy certain antidemocratic measures used by the Kremlin.

This would all change into a much worse situation if Nationalists and Rar Right took power in Poland. They are extremely pro Putin and pro Kremlin. One of their leaders, Korwin, frequently appears on Russian TV as an expert on Polish Russian affairs.

Well, he is an expert on pretty much everything in the entire Universe, isn't he? :)

Certainly he is an erudite, knowledgeable about things which are ideologically neutral but when some controvercial social or medical issues are discussed, he can`t get rid of his obsessions and prejudice. Like a typical far right guy.

Never mind. We should get back on topic now - Korwin isn`t worth risking a warning. hahahaha

Russian and Poles - yes, no problem

Like Mickiewicz- he was positive about common Russians, he had very good relations with them, especially women from noble families, to such an extent that he noticed his hair and nails stopped growing due to fatigue. :):)

But he hated the Tsar and his loyal stooges.

No a big problem. Average Russian wants to be like Poles, average Pole don't want to be like Russians. I can see it everyday.

It may be true, but it doesn't mean that they can't get along.

Average Russian wants to be like Poles

No, I don`t think so. Russians are proud of their national identity and culture just like Poles are proud of theirs.

Russians are proud of their national identity and culture

Yes they are but it was my russian Assistant who told me all Russians are like Homo sovieticus (wikipedia) and Poles even in PRL ware much more normal, everything but not sovieticus. An average Russian wants to be normal so she/he wants to be like Poles or other Western People.

Now it might be a problem. Unless a Russian person declares clearly he or she rejects Putin and Russian imperialist obsessions, normal relations are out of question. We can`t get along with supporters of genocidal regimes.

BTW, genocidal. Did you know that Wiki has already created a site about Bucza Massacre? This and other sites like that will haunt Russians for decades.

Russians are amazing people, Chess champions, Novelists like Ayn Rand and so on. Their imperialistic state is the problem. Making an analogy, Rural US is amazing. Large city in Soy York/Commiefornia USA is bad and USA deep state complete evil. And no, I don't wanna Russia to become a retarded soycial like in the west, I mean, what is the difference between jailing people who call a war, a war to jailing people who call a man, a man?

Chess champions

They're good. Usually.

Ayn Rand

She was bad.

Their imperialistic state is the problem

That and the fact that russia is only governable by the authoritarian methods of the past; brute force and fear. Something which doesn't work in Poland.

Do Russians and Poles get along?

This is the latest answer: the book by Andrzej Nowak, entitled: Poland Russia - the neighbourhood of freedom and despotism.

It is also worth noting the civilization gap between Poland and Russia. When tens of thousands of Polish nobility decided about the fate of the Republic of Poland at sejmiks and parliaments, the time of oprichnina came in Russia, i.e. brutal terror and the power of special services. When hundreds of books and political magazines were written on the Vistula River, the tsarist empire did not know maps, hardly anyone could read or write, there were no schools. Fear of Poland grew, and so did hatred.

Allegedly.
Even a chess champ can be a legal a-hole.

He's one of the good guys.

I have the wrong mentality for chess. I do play bridge quite well (and have played with JK-M). Bridge is about putting 2 and 2 together to make 13, playing quick and dirty then arguing afterwards. Incidentally the current world champion is Poland whose national team is superb.

Bridge is more Polish, Chess more russian and that says plenty about the two countries' culture. I prefer the bridge players.
