Television in Poland - embarrassingly bad?

My favorite Polish program is "Usterka", which only seems to be on in the middle of the night. It's very original and I have never seen anything like it.

Amusing scenes compiled from a few episodes:

ooops, it is funny to watch but experiencing those adventures with "professionals" in real might be a problem to one`s psyche.

But this plumber`s adventure is even funnier:

blatant rip offs

Every country rips off american tv shows. The US is (unfortunately) the epicenter of tv/pop culture/entertainment.

Polish television - embarrassingly bad??

Canadian tv is so bad, so few people watch it that the government has to subsidize (ie steal tax payer money) these shows (ie: "the little mosque on the prairie" - no joke that's the shows title) to ensure that there is canadian content on tv.

it's witty to randomly swear (in English)

Speaking broken english is my biggest pet peeve in Polish TV. They think they are "cool" when they say something in english yet in reality they are butchering the language and making themselves look stupid. I believe they do it "na pokaz" to show that they can "speak" the "international language."

Oh I forgot about that one!! I have to agree, it's the best thing on Polish TV!! Love it when some poor unsuspecting workman is quietly going about his business, and suddenly, a couple of very fit girls casually appear wearing nothing more than towels :)

Definitely is annoying, that's for sure. I notice in adverts they're doing it regularly too. Another annoyance of mine, is when you have resident 'experts' on talent shows (Top model, you/I/we/they/his mother/father can dance/sing/cook). Generally on these shows the experts are very boisterous and loud. This behaviour changes when they have an expert guest visitor from the west, as all the resident experts seem to crawl into their shells and don't have an opinion thereafter. Almost like they accept that their opinion is inferior.

A big problem with Polish reality shows that are based on Western fare is the disparity in the viewers' expectations from country to country. This was certainly at issue during the production and airing of Survivor Poland, where many Poles were confused as to why anyone had to be "voted off", and thought rooting against certain contestants was unfair and unseemly.

A very good point. It doesn't surprise me, as Polish people in general take friendship seriously. Some American shows are far too agressive in this respect, with contestants threatening to kill one another's family, etc.

Canadian tv is so bad

some is and some isn't. Davinci's Inquest was amazing. Rick Mercer, this hour has 22 minutes, road to avonlea, corner gas, 18 to life and a few others are really good. There are also a lot of HGTV shows that are Canadian that get world wide exposure.

Population numbers and geography dictate, unfortunately. as for "little mosque on the prairie" I have never seen it so I can't really comment on its quality, however, I do think it is a good idea to include all ethnicities in Canada- and perhaps expose some of the American mythes regarding muslims.

They are not ripped off, but licensed. A lot of the popular stuff comes from the UK and licensed to the US. X-Factor, Pop Idol, Got Talent, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?,Dancing with the Stars,The Weakest Link,Come Dine with me (thats in 30 countries...),Scrapheap Challenge for example

Big Brother is Dutch of course.

Merged: Poland state TV loses viewers

Polish viewers are passing their own judgment - with the channel changer.

It looks like the public prefer TVN and Polsat to the heavily manipulated state TV service...

Its flagship news program, "Wiadomosci," has lost 750,000 viewers and is now watched by fewer than three million people, a historic low

nytimes.com/2016/07/04/world/europe/polands-conservative-government-puts-curbs-on-state-tv-news.html?mwrsm=Facebook&_r=0

The article says that people are increasingly turning to online news sources, free fm government interference.

I don't see mass firings or mass resignations at the BBC. Nor do I see a 20% drop in their news viewing figures in favour of anti-PiS stations.
