It's an effective deterrent against buying them but some just budget in other ways.

They want to hike it up to 10PLN in the near future to bring it in line with European prices.

I'm paying 9.95 for a pack of Marlboro silver.

That's in Warsaw though. Gliwice is cheaper.

Gliwice is cheaper.

Not for cigarettes, or at least not for Marlboro: all of them leave the factory with the price printed on the bottom of the pack.

Although the price has only recently (i.e. within the last four weeks) gone up to 9.95. Used to be 9.20.

Yes but beer also has a suggested price on it but they sell it for more. I'm telling you, they cost 8PLN a pack here.

That's odd: I spent last week going round south east Poland (1600km worth) and all the shop were selling at recommended price.

To the uk 200 per person,so if you need cheap Cigarettes the best idea is to send a football team!

Poland is now a full fiscal member, so the 3200 guideline now stands.

HOW MANY CIGGARETTES CAN I BRING BACK TO GLASGOW.

From some EU countries there are limits on the
amount of tobacco products you can bring back
without paying duty and / or tax in the UK:
200 cigarettes from Bulgaria, Hungary*, Latvia,
Lithuania, Poland*, Romania and Slovakia*
200 cigarettes or 250g smoking tobacco from Estonia
Please note that there is no limit on other types of
tobacco products as long as they are for your own use.
(*The limits on cigarettes from Hungary, Poland
and Slovakia only apply until 31 December 2008) Copied from hmrc.gov.uk/customs/index.htm so in theory you should be able to bring back upto 3200 ?

Can you read, or indeed spell?

In theory, as much as you like, however, you'll still have to satisfy Customs that they're for personal use. The reality is that 3200 is the limit.

Does anyone know how many you can legally take back anyway ?

Before I became a legitimat businessman, I used to smuggle 2 suitcases full of fags home every summer from Poland. How? On the bus. I always madw sure my suitcase was put at the bottom of the bus and was never checked in 4 years. I bought 200 cigs in Gdansk (L&B) for around 15 quid and sold them in the UK for 35 quid. Took them to factory canteens and couldnt sell them quick enough.

Good business if anyone wants to get into it, although the 24 hr bus journey is a nightmare

It certainly used to be sold in a couple of the kiosks at the central station. Only the 50g packs. I've got no idea about the price but I seem to remember it used to cost more than Drum.

Allegedly, there are people that have fag rounds in the same way you get milk or paper rounds. Put your order in and every Friday you get a knock on the door and there is a man with your 200 fags. £30 a pop and everyone is happy.

( Disclaimer - There is no way I would condone this behaviour and I do not know of anyone who partakes in this behaviour )

They are up to 9, sometimes 10 PLN here too. How quickly such things change! It depends where you buy them but there are maximum prices attached.

It's possible in border regions - it's very easy in Przemysl to buy Ukranian cigarettes for example.

About 8, sometimes 7.75

Do the polish people have cigarettes like Prince, LA or kings?

No. The big sellers are Marlboro, 10.50 or L&M, 9.50 and Red & White, 8.75. About 5 years ago, Fajrant were the biggest seller, at about the same price as Red & White, but better quality. They are shorter than King Size and in an old-fashioned packet.

Is it posible to get very cheap cigarretes from ukraine, or slovakia or something else on the blackmarket in poland?

Yes. 5.50 a packet from Ukraine, Belarus or Moldova. most people don't buy them

The Polish market has a lot of extra-slim cigarettes, often menthol. A lot of Polish women are heavy smokers.

And way too cheap. Sorry to be a party pooper, but my daughter is being endangered by passive smoking in all the Kato music clubs :((

Time for some sense and a smoking ban IMO

Well, it has worked in many countries so why not Poland? I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Thats nothing, its getting closer to £7 in the UK for a packet of malboro - not that I care, I no longer smoke!

Yeah, 10PLN is nothing. Ciggies were sometimes 1 pound in Japan, good brands too.

The funny thing is, Japan is where I finally quit smoking. Its ubiquitousness grossed me out.
Seanus  15 | 19666

Smoking was ubiquitous in Japan? Really? Hmm...too many people were too busy cycling to smoke ;) ;)

My wife sees the price of ciggies as she smokes a lot. 10PLN here, tragic! Still, a semi-effective deterrent.

Well, here's a question: nevermind the health aspect, we all know about that. But how much of the tax on cigarettes goes towards financing Polish troops in the Middle East?
