Hi,

A friend of mine is visiting Poland next week, and i'd like him to bring some ciggies back.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much 200 Marlboro's would cost, so i know how much of my hard-earned to give him?

Any help much appreciated!

Marlboro lites in most places are 7.90zl a pack of 20

You can get them cheaper in some supermarkets but you won't make massive savings.

Cigarettes here in Poland are so much cheaper than in England so even if your friend buys them for 7.90zl a pack you are saving lots of money!

about £10 / £11 :) but tell him to be carefull how many he brings in I was a bit a cheeky biatch when our flight got diverted to B/ham (they dont really check in M/c) and I just walked past the long line of people who were having their cases checked - never seen so many L&M's in my life stacked up that had been confiscated...but I did manage to bring back a 1,000 :)

I paid 18Euro for a sleeve (box of 20), but this was in the countryside.
That was about 2 years ago.

Restrictions state that you cannot bring more than 2 sleeves per person through customs.

They are quite stringent with checks now due to contraband.

Thanks so much everyone, you've all been very helpful.

At those prices i think i'll have to give him as much as i can then. He's actually taking over a schoolboy football team, so i'm hoping he'll be allowed a carton per child....that'd be at least a dozen cartons, or 2400 ciggies!

i just hope they're big children..!

i do like the sound of that special edition metal case..hmmm.

Cheers, All!

Only a person who is 17 yrs (the exact birthday date decides) or older may bring alcohol and tobacco products to/from Poland.

if you want to bring something from Poland to another EU country, you must check this country's regulations.

If coming TO Poland from an EU country, you can bring with you:
800 cigarettes;

You might want to remember that because the tax on cigarettes in Poland doesn't meet the EU minimum tax level, you can only take 200 cigarettes back to Holland from Poland.

Apparently Poland is now a full fiscal member of the EU and thus the limitation has been scrapped - though it's still in force for quite a few of the eastern countries. The recent tax rise in cigarettes helped to seal that particular deal, so I believe.

HMRC in the UK don't have the 200 cigarettes limitation anymore, anyway.

Typically 8PLN. They want to hike it up to 10PLN in the near future to bring it in line with European prices. The downside of harmonisation.

Pretty sure you won't find Benson's any more in Poland, afaik they took the licence away because too many people were smuggling them to England.

You might find some old stock around but I havn't seen any in Warsaw for almost 2 years now.

could be worse, the ausralian government is trying to raise the cost to $20 for a pack of 30. currently that pack would cost $11-14 depending what you buy and where you buy them.
