Owning a house in true countryside of Poland - stories

Yes, I dug 8 holes for new trees. They have been waiting for their content since August until recently.
The rat carcass landed in one of the holes. I covered it with black agrifabric to keep dampness so that a new tree isn`t too dry after planting (the wetter, the better - that`s the rule pertaining to our climate and soil)

Imagine my utter amazement when last week I uncovered the fabric and didn`t find the body. A fox must have preyed on it.

As clever as a fox, although I don't know if foxes eat carcass.

Half rotten carcass is delicacy to them. Like this rotten herring to Swedes.

rotten herring to Swedes.

I saw that episode of Top Gear where they ate them, they cause nausea and vomiting just by the smell... I wonder if the fox survived the meal?

If you feed them on corn for a few weeks and then neck them like rabbits, they are apparently quite nice.

I don't know if we're talking about the same thing, Pawian meant rotten herrings.....
I really like Polish herrings with vinegar.

Amiga, do you remember what you wrote here in 2019, 28 August ???

Just heard on the radio that PiS goverment is introducing 3000 new public transport routes over the next six months, subsidised, to give many villages and rural areas , like the one Pawian lives in, a bus service for the first time, after brutal rationalisation from the former PO traitors. Good news for rural areas and villages. Old babcias will be able to hospital in the nearby town. Another win for poland and the polish people,

Do you remember what I replied?
This:

That`s BS, they only promised it but won`t really make it happen. Don`t fall for PiS` tricks - it is pure politics to win the elections. They will create one route or two of state bus transport to show on PiS TV and that will be all.

Can you guess who was right, as usual???? hahahaha

Yes, the latest statistics show that the length of public transport routes in the countryside got shorter under PIS, not longer.

Thank you , PiS gangsters, for your wonderful promises! Life seemed so much easier and better when we were fed them! hahahaha

Kabuki is Japanese feline shadow theatre.

PS. (I have processed even the tiniest carrots, not bigger than my nail, my kids think they are amusing)

I said it in 2021. And I still stick to my tradition of not wasting the tiniest produce which I have grown.
Check this baby corn and baby potatoes combined with hot smoked chicken parts or minced meat.

Coz it is a beautiful Polish tradition. Food was always considered God`s gift which mustn`t be wasted. When a piece of bread fell onto the floor, people picked it up, kissed and ate or put back on the table.

A great poet Norwid wrote:

Do kraju tego, gdzie kruszynę chleba
Podnoszą z ziemi przez uszanowanie
Dla darów Nieba....
Tęskno mi, Panie...

I miss the country where crumbs of bread
are picked up from the ground through respect
For the gifts of Heaven....
I miss it, Lord...

Are these cats committing harakiri? It's also a Japanese tradition.

Are these cats committing harakiri?

Yes!!!! They do!!! On mice that they catch in the house!!!! hahahahaha When they finally kill the mice, the cat rips it open to devour the belly content aka intestines first.

PS. Better call it seppuku. Harakiri is considered vulgar.

Last spring and summer I planted and replanted new and old fruit bushes.
Eg, I decided to enlarge our plantation of American blue berries. They are one of most fave fruit to most of the family.

Guests are endowed with so much fresh produce that they can`t carry it. This is Polish hospitality. Americans, learn from us!!!

Are these guys packing up the TV right now?

No, he is packing a TV box full of produce from our fields! :):):) I collect those boxes everywhere I can from: work, shopping centres, waste dumps etc etc :):):)

PS. Better call it seppuku. Harakiri is considered vulgar.

You don't get the chance to decide what is called or choose between seppuku and harakiri, as a liar and a coward you would be forced to disembowel yourself, no doubt about it. Ptak on the other hand, is a creature of honor, and nobility and would face the inevitable with the helping hand of Rich or Johnny.

monkey's house

Funny but the only thing in our house which fits your image is this metal sink. :):):

Thank you for posting here and reminding me of this thread coz I have a chance to offer a riddle from our garden:

What and why?
Hint - I am not talking about that metal basin.

You mean you didn't see the monkeyfied Putin as a reflection of yourself?

What and why?

It's tarping to prevent weeds from growing or to protect any seeding from animals.

Yes, there is this black agrofabric but it isn`t the topic of this riddle.
Hint - look at the stuff on the fabric.

you didn't see the monkeyfied Putin as a reflection of yourself?

I saw him but never as a reflection of myself. :):):)

look at the stuff on the fabric.

You're trying to plant around the existing tree's roots.

This is a glaring example of poor gardening.

Plants don't do well being planted the way you did because the tree's roots are established and are the first to take any water and nutrients leaving very little behind for any remaining plants.

Your tarping is another glaring example that it is amateur hour in your garden. The tarping may help protect the new plants you placed around the tree but now you put the tree at risk of an early death by suffocating its roots.

You're trying to plant around the existing tree's roots.

You are getting closer...

What and why did I plant ???

A closer approach:

Poloniusz 4 | 715

A closer approach:

You are hell bent on kill that tree by securing the tarp in place with many rocks.
OP pawian 224 | 24,513
18 Feb 2024 #537
you put the tree at risk of an early death by suffocating its roots.

Now you prove you know nothing about how agrofabric works. Do some googling and return to tell us why none of the plants covered with it is at risk. :):):) Quite the contrary. It shows you have never had a garden in your life.

It is an extra riddle for you. :):):)

n kill that tree

Mission impossible. :):):) Google about big trees and their roots and come back with the news. :):):
OP pawian 224 | 24,513

kill that tree

It is impossible to kill that giant tree with this little agrofabric or stones I put on it. Its roots absorbing water and nutrients spread a few metres from the trunk. Besides, if I even covered the whole root area with more agrofabric, it wouldn`t matter coz this stuff allows water to go through into the ground.

Plants don't do well being planted the way because the tree's roots are established and are the first to take any water and nutrients

That is why I put that agrofabric underneath and water it regularly.

Hey, how about the riddle?? What was my primary intention in doing all that???

Driving in the countryside in winter time. Even backward roads are cleared off snow but if the snowfall is sudden and heavy, main roads attract the attention of the services and side ones have to wait.

The second photo shows how the wind blows snow onto the already cleared road from the field again.
