When the weather is appropriate is there much freshwater fishing in Poland? And what sorts of fish? What are some of the most scenic places to go?

No, I already asked.
There is another thread somewhere that answers all your questions.

@dannytoro1

I love this guy. He is from an ethnicity I love, and he loves fishing.

If you like scuba diving and history - then we can be best friends.

I created fishing threads in the past, that got merged. I'm also very curious about freshwater fishing in Poland.

.....but there is a possibility that he doesn't love you. For the years of oppression of his cousins in russia.

I'm not sure what you mean by "much"... Obviously people are doing freshwater fishing in Poland... :) It's apparently one of the most popular hobbies and there are roughly 2 million anglers in Poland.

And what sorts of fish?

No idea. I had a boyfriend from one of the Polish port cities who was into fish and maritime stuff, I even translated some things for him into English, but I can't remember any of it lol

I know though that if you're a Polish citizen older than 14 years old you have to have the "angler's card" (fishing licence?) and know which fish you can fish, how big, where, when, etc. You have to take an exam in order to get this card and you have to have it on you when you're fishing.

If you're a foreigner who's only temporarily on the territory of Poland, you don't have to have the "angler's card" though.

What are some of the most scenic places to go?

The Masurian Lake District would be my guess.

Thanks. That is a nice looking lake. ? For me fishing is an excuse to take in natural beauty. Meeting nature. Here I made friends with a female Great Boat tailed Grackle:

Her boyfriend was not impressed

For me, fishing is a great excuse to get drunk. Alone, or with friends.

Also, it's addicting, on the level of a casino roulette or a computer game.

I'm tired, I've been rained on for hours, my joints and muscles hurt, and I can imagine nothing better than going back inside and resting on the couch... but then I think - "One more cast".

In this way, I can stand in a single spot from 4 am, until 2 am the next day. Just switching my tackle appropriately.

Fishing can be obsessive. You never know when the next bite will come, and what will be sitting on that hook.

The funny thing is - I don't like eating fish. I like cooking it for others however.

salmon is fished in the rivers near the sea in their season (salmon is seldom encountered in rivers further inland because main Polish rivers carry a lot of pollution)

in mountainous regions trout is quite common, in lakes and slow moving rivers you can find pikes, perch, bream and catfish. Some people like fishing for carp (they are thought to put up a lot of fight) but carp prefer shallow warm waters

Also maybe because they only go a little bit up river in order to spawn.

They spend their life in the seas.

Pikes, perch and Bream would be my focus. People here know me from harvesting eggs from Bowfin. A big, armored fish of bends in rivers. Sometimes I will keep one and make Mudfish cakes. But normally I just release them to go about their business and can the eggs into caviar. I prefer to use ultralight tackle to give them a fair chance and a fun fight.

Our Pike and Pickerel are rather small. Not like Northern Pikes. Pickerel is my favorite fish to eat.

Good. Yet, Polish die hard anglers focus on carp which is disregarded in Western Europe or US but highly valued in Poland.

Kathreen with a carp weighing nearly 30 kg. No pike or perch attain such sizes.

Only non-breeding sterile Carp are allowed in many states. It is invasive and some carp are navigation hazards. Hence disdained in much of the USA. 45KG Flathead cats are not un-common here. And people like to eat them. I do not.

No, it is disdained because it is a bottom feeder whose meat smells of mud when we talk about wild variety. The one produced in Poland doesn`t. . :):):

45KG Flathead cats are not un-common

You mean catfish?? Specimen closing to 100 KG are rare but still available in Poland.

We have Blue Catfish that get up to 75Kg. But we have White Sturgeon that can reach up to 20 feet long. All our really heavy fish are Saltwater.

By drinking wodka all of the time, it comes as no surprise.

Only non-breeding sterile Carp

Pawian is an expert on all things Carp. He has one in his bathtub every December.
