Why do you choose to stay in Poland, why not other country?

dont worry, i've already got here what i need from poland. still for several reasons i'm studying the language and have to visit from time to time. i am addicted to polish hospitality you know.

Largely because of my wife. If I wasn't with her, I'd likely be doing some other profitable work in Scotland. I miss my family and the growing up of my bro's wee son. Some who know me are shocked that I am still here.

99% of expats are in Poland because of a girl initially...then they get "stuck" there but generally would rather be somewhere else after a couple years maximum. No girl is worth living there forever.

what about people that travel? anybody travelling and want to share some thought?
what's there to stop you for longer?

Think I'd have stuck around for longer. I'm kinda calling this wee stay in Ireland a "holiday".

I know what you mean, and a thinking about leaving PL at the moment. I thought I'd probably be here for life.

Ten years is either a long time or a short time to be somewhere, depending how you look at it. A few things work and business related have been going wrong, personally too and I'll have to make decisions sooner or later - and the grass is of course always greener. But there's something about Warsaw that keeps people here like a magnet.

What you went and got married? I was thinking about it but I didn't feel like 3 years worth of paperwork and permits and really couldn't see an upside...milk for free and all ;)

all I say to that is, it's a matter of taste, lol Either you don't know western Europe good enough or it's just your personal preference.

It is a matter of taste, I like new stuff, not a scorpions concert. I like music and art, I like people that don't mind bending the rules a bit, I like Maluchs, and the people that drive them.

There are many reasons why people move to poland:

Some people go there for an adventure, while others meet polish women abroad and are lured to poland because their lady wants to be closer to her family.

Sometimes companies will send their employees to work/train @ their branches in poland while self employed internet entrepreneurs may find the cost of living in PL lower than their home countries.

Others (I've met MANY) studied something useless in uni, such as the humanities, and only after graduation have they realised that they can't do **** all with their B.A. in their home country so they decide go abroad to teach english.

And finally, it is much easier for western men to find "love" in poorer countries.

That's a common hack against native speakers that isn't always merited, pcanuck. I went abroad to travel, it wasn't the case that I couldn't do anything with my Masters. I've been lucky enough to have good bases in Europe and Asia in which to move around.

Thanks seanus. I tend to say things the way they are (which is not always popular) and you're the only user on PF who isn't afraid to admit that i'm right:) Everyone else gets defensive.

I'm not the defensive type but I can be the explosive type when sb fu*ks with me. Then it's watch out!

As for staying in Poland....(scratches head)

well I like new stuff too and "maluchs" have nothing to do with new, BMW etc does lol. Well I don't like Scorpions either but I definately don't like new music (rap, hip hop and techno or disco-polo LOL). Convex I lived in Poland as you know so I'm not fantasizing.

Some things are good some are not but talking about new stuff (unless you mean new to you) well, ain't that much of it there.

well, not really. it's easier for any man with balls, quite rare commodity in poland. still a man with ball will bring the girl home, dont you think.

I think some people choose to stay in Poland because they are afraid to make some changes when they leaves Poland.

They have been worries:
1. Find job which is suitable for you.
2. Which mean we have to learn new jobs every years. Companies changing.
3.. Not be able to find wife or husband like in Poland
4. Don't like living in America or other countries, not feeling comfortable.
5. Misses Polish Foods and their customs and cultures.
6. Misses beautiful Poland.

I really don't know.

I suspect there may be a lot of reasons right there. A large number of Anglo foreigners would have to actually learn to do something instead of relying only on what came to them without much effort in the first place, i.e. speaking their own native tongue.

well, roads are in about the same state of disrepair....

There is no place in the developed world with roads like Poland (well, tied with the Ukraine, Romania is close...).

foods should be substituted for bread, otherwise it would be funny as hell.

I still think Polish people do have better foods in Poland than America.
Why? Because we have American products which is made in Wisconsin, Michigan or other states.

In Poland you have very good products which is why your Polish foods taste so delicious. Compare to America, I think you all would choose Polish Foods over America.

When I go to European Deli or Grocery, they have Polish products, I haven't buy them yet. I will soon.

Why?
Coz.. beautiful country, nice people, very good food, and beautiful girls! In any order :)

These two leave me wondering if people say this as a joke or they have not actually been in Poland.

Sure there are some nice people but overall people are rude, dour and suspicious.

The food? Are you kidding? There is no variety at all and everything is based on survival foods from the poor times like cabbage and flour dough stuff. Vegeta is used to add flavor to everything because nothing has it naturally and the bread is the worst in the world. Even slums in India make better bread.

Well I am actually in Poland, and I was here several time past years. As people, all that I encounter were very nice , but I`m sure that like in every other country there are kinds and kinds of people some rude some worst..

As food.. don`t know what to say but I like Polish dishes. Maybe is not a variety but I enjoy :)
