doubt whether anyone can help, as i only know the first word of the title. its about a polish family. the first word is swiat(world). i know it ended with the familys surname, and i have polish tv in my house now, so i would like to know what its called. just quizzed my lodger and he doesnt know what its called either, but i think its hilarious! last time i watched it was maybe 18 months ago, and it was always on in the day. have no idea if it is an old comedy series or new?

hi Pam,

Świat według Kiepskich is still produced but what they mostly show is older episodes - there are a couple of simply brilliant episodes but these are the very old ones mostly (it is produced since the middle of the 90's - it's a Polsat series - to be honest in my opinion the newer the episode the more it sucks

i probably watched the older ones then. still thought it was funny, but so far obviously no- one agrees! you have to remember my polish wasnt great then( and still isnt) so it was a visual thing for me. in a strange way it reminded me of only fools and horses(english comedy programme)

I never liked its imbecile characters and their pathological problems. I watched half of the first episode in 1990s and then never returned to it again. It`s a series about idiots for idiots.

No, it is not. It's a series that combines some very primitive humour with some very refined one. Research has found out that its viewers are either people with higher education or those with the most basic one. The latter amuse themselves with its silly and primitive humour, the former is also able to see its deeper level where there are lots of political and other sorts of allusions. The clash of those two types of humour produces a strong comic effect.

In true fact it is my favorite series. Some episodes are not that good, but others are simply brilliant. I remember two or three episodes which I was not able to watch because I was laughing so crazily that I had my face covered with tears. What is strange, however, was that fhe first episode I had ecer watched left me with an impression that the series was awful and not worth giving it a second go. So I had abstained for several years and one day I accidentalyy started to watch yet another episode and since then ... I have fallen in love with this series!

All in all, I think the series is a kind of a "Poles Own True Portrait". I am very much surprised that you didn't like it, Pawian. I would have thought that Spike or Ironside would dislike it, but you...?

Wow, really, I would never thought that. .But I don`t like such combinations - primitive humour spoils the fun I can have from refined one.

Research has found out that its viewers are either people with higher education or those with the most basic one

So I have only met those basic ones who were excited about the series.

I can see Poles` true portrait in everyday life, I don`t need to watch it on TV. Thank you very much, I am not a masochist. hahahahaha

I can see Poles` true portrait in everyday life, I don`t need to watch it on TV

But it's amplified and thus it should lead to reflections on who we really are. In an everyday life you think all this is normal, not that good perhaps, so you just move on with things. Watching a witty film is like looking in the mirror that distorts the picture and you see things you would otherwise not see. But most of all, it is made for fun, so those who don't like it should not watch it De gustibus non est disputandum - as the Romans used to say.

In a way I may say I felt exactly like you about the films of Stanisław Bareja in the PRL times. I thought they were extremely stupid as they showed the stupid reality I had around me, so "I didn't need to watch it on TV". And it was only many years later - at a time when the PRL was long gone - that I started to appreciate his brilliant films made not only for fun, but for a bitter reflection perhaps as well..

so those who don't like it should not watch it

And that`s what I do - I don`t watch it. :):)

The diversion in watching films or reading books partly consists of being able to identify oneself with the characters. How can I feel any emotional bond with lazy primitive morons who appear in it ??? hahahaha

I thought they were extremely stupid as they showed the stupid reality I had around me

PRL comedies are a different case. :):) Bareja`s Miś which I first watched in 1981 was an exciting comedy coz it had big problems with censorship as it touched topics which communists tried to sweep under the carpet. A few months later commies imposed martial law and Miś was forbidden again.

If I had watched Kiepscy in 1980s, I would have probably had a more positive opinion. But in democracy, with censorship gone, it is what it is: idiotic and primitive.

And that`s what I do - I don`t watch it. :):)

Also because I don`t watch TV at all. :)

partly consists of being able to identify oneself with the characters

Not at all or not always. I am always able to follow a movie without identifying myself with a character. And that is why I like all the characters in "Świat według Kiepskich" without actually identifying myself with any.of them.

As I said: De gustibus non disputandum est, so I won't convince you it is a good series and you won't convince me it is a bad one.

so I won't convince you it is a good series

Of course, it would be a hopeless task. hahaha

you won't convince me it is a bad one.

I never had such an intention. hahaha
