For me it has to be Daniel Olbrychski, Colonel Wolodyjowski, Potop (The Deluge), Ziemia Obiecana, With Fire and Sword, Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania, SALT...

Olbrychski is certainly one of the greatest (alongside Wacław Kowalski, Fronczewski, Gajos, Pieczka, Hańcza and other actors of similar, very high class), but my personal favourite and, in my opinion, the best Polish actor ever, totally in a league of his own, was Roman Wilhelmi (Nikodem Dyzma in Kariera Nikodema Dyzmy, Stanisław Anioł in Alternatywy 4, Robert Fornalski in Zaklęte rewiry.)

Daniel Olbrychski wins hands down!
If the man was born in America he would be a god.
Absolutely Amazing.

Daniel Olbrychski

I hate him. He overacts.

Zbigniew Zapasiewicz was a ingenious actor.

I agree with PennBoy, but also the truth is that to appreciate his talent people must grow.
I'm very happy that in Hollywood they give him chance to play in Salt. Maybe it's not a big figure but he found him self very well with american stars. Good job Daniel!

Salt was slightly insulting i thought, but, he did kick ass!
Too many years too late.
What a shame! he gets to play a Russian in an American movie. yay!.
Sigh.

I don't think it's overacting, he gets all into his character with body and soul, emotional, he makes it's all seam believable, real.

Why are you happy? Hollywood is mostly known for trashy productions. It has hardly anything to do with art. Was there a chase and a shootout in Salt? I haven't seen it.

Related, Harvey Kietel is fairly Polish - and he is (or at least was) outstanding.

But that probably doesn't count...

Actually he is jewish polish. There are many Hollywood actors whose grandparents/great grandparents were polish Jews: Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlet Johannson, Adrien Bordy, Natalie Portman, Jane Seymore, to name a few...

Lee Lee Sobieski is somewhat Polish... and she is from THAT Sobieski family. Also Juliette Binoche mother side grandparents were Polish (Julia Helena Młynarczyk - a Częstochowian actress and Andrzej Stalens also an actor).

Adrien Bordy

With a name like Brody, there is Irish in there somewhere too by the way : )

Maybe its from "broda" (polish beard)

Brody's father is of Polish-Jewish descent

Ah maybe. Just coincidence then - Brody is also a common Irish surname.

Actually I've just found out that the number of people with this surname in Poland is... 1!!!
/mapa/kompletny/brody.html

I think that his family changed the surname from Broda to Brody to sound more American ;)

I doubt she is from THAT Sobieski, but...

Sobieski grew up in a "pan-religious" family; she has said that she is "proud of [her] Jewish roots".

I know that King Sobieski was not Jewish, and she would have reason to be proud of such lineage if it were true. Being proud of being Jewish in Hollywood makes sense though.

I doubt she is from THAT Sobieski, but...

she is from the line of king's brother... something like that.

Jak sama twierdzi, przez swego ojca Jean Sobieskiego, jest spokrewniona z królem Polski Janem III Sobieskim, który był jej "praprapraprawujkiem"[1] i według niej "ostatnim królem Polski".

haha, ostatnim? Oj panna Sobieski się trochę rozmarzyła...

She has that regal look though, and who cares about European history in Hollywood anyway.

Danuta Stenka is one of my favorites. A class act.

Wintervater (2011) with Daniel Olbrychski looks promising, A young Polish girl searches for her Russian sailor father. A evenly split, Polish, Russian, German cast.

Did you know that the famous model and actress Alessandra Ambrosio is a descendant of Polish?

was Roman Wilhelmi (

Yes, great actor. I loved his acting as much as I didn`t like his roles of swindlers, conmen, sly dogs and brutes.

See the cult scene when Dyzma has two shots and herring:

Yes, a good choice.
However, let`s remember this contest for the best actor is purely subjective one. It is impossible to point to just one best actor/actress in Poland - there have been too many of them. If I were to say a name now, I would have a real problem.

But everybody can propose his/her favourite one.
