Language / How can i teach my child Polish language? (I'm Russian, my wife is Polish) [35]

As stated above mum MUST speak Polish ALL THE TIME.

I speak English to our son and his mum speaks Polish and even now at 3 years old he is able to flip between the 2 languages seamlessly.

The funny thing is he goes to a French speaking school and speaks French with almost all of his colleagues but speaks Polish in the class with his Polish speaking friend.

News / US Military: The Army of Poland is crap. [124]

The USA has been in many combats since the second war , so its hardly suprising they are a little more expert than the Polish army...

We had a little ditty that we used to refer to the US Army:

"All the gear and no idea, All the kit and full of sh&t."

Travel / A good kebab place in Warsaw? [45]

No such thing as a "Good Kebab"

The meat is reheated again and again and again. The meat is reformed and heavily spiced making it impossible to determine what part(s) of the animal it came from. Kebab meat high levels of trans fat (hydrogenated plant fat that can contribute to coronary heart disease, obesity and diabetes). Tests revealed “a doner kebab was found to contain 5.8g of trans fat per portion compared to 0.87g in a Big Mac and fries”.

You can see the evidence of this fat yourself – such unhealthy fats will solidify and turn white when left too cool down. Next time you purchase a kebab take a sample of the meat and leave it in a cool place overnight. The more white globules you see clinging to the meat the next day the more unhealthy fats (trans fats and saturated fats) are on the meat. You will find that they vary from takeaway to takeaway but they will always be there.

Cheap unhealthy crap.

News / POLISH CHILD ABUSING A CAT.. [74]

if i saw a kid doing this i would kick him so hard up the ass he would forget what the ground felt like...

So dealing with violence with violence is the solution?

Sorry mate but i disagree. Children are not born bad.

In the genetic or environment debate I of the firm belief that environment is what makes us what/who we are.

What the hell were the parents doing filming him ....

Herein lies the root of the problem.

No such thing as a bad child, its bad parents.

Saints forgive me!!!

I have just seen the video. I'm absolutely appalled but it serves to affirm what I thought before. He has been schooled in this wickedness and clearly witnessed this on more than one occasion.

Sadly, its probably already too late for those perpetrating this abhoration.

UK, Ireland / I worry about the Poles working in the UK [77]

Not a good time to be a foreigner working in the UK.

Care to elaborate?

Going to be tough for everyone not just foreigner's

Foreigner's working in the ROI are probably experiencing the same thing already.

UK, Ireland / I worry about the Poles working in the UK [77]

Ive never been on the dole or had any UK government handouts what so ever. There have been times when i was entitled but never bothered about it.

Likewise, these last few years I have moved my family all around Europe on one contract or another. I am lucky that my line of work and particular skill-set was highly sought after and I was able to do so.

I have never claimed a penny from the UK, in fact i still pay my NI contributions to ensure I get my state pension when I retire. As far as I am concerned that is the least they can give me.

Ironically, when I moved to Belgium I got a letter from the Child Benefits people saying I had to repay a wedge of money for Child Benefit and Tax credits both of which I'd never even claimed for.

Some pretty colourful language ensued.

The occupied territory of the 6 counties is not part of the UK

Newsflash. Like it or not the fact is, it is.

We have to take the bad with the good in life and just get on with it.

Thats it isnt it. Its a game of survival and only the strong survive etc etc.

I choose to work for myself to allow me the flexibility to move and try stay ahead of the game but that comes at a price. I never know where I will be in 6 months. Tomek is 3 and the next one is due in May. I can't put my wife and kids through that for much longer.

Decisions are looming and I need to make them soon.

as long as i pay for 30 years total i'll get the pension. A few years left to make that up.

Even with less than 30 years you are still entitled to something.

30 entitles you to full basic state (97 a week currently)

Less than 30 I think its about 47 per week.

News / POLISH CHILD ABUSING A CAT.. [74]

I've seen the video on Youtube and the 15 year old was pointing and directing his brother to do the horrific things to the cat.

As I said yesterday, there is no way this 3 year old did this without prompting. He was schooled in this wickedness and had clearly witnessed this on more than one occasion and I reiterate the point, environment holds sway over genetics.

We've done this debate before, this generation is being desensitised and it will get worse. Such events are extraordinary, soon they will be the norm.

trust me i'm Irish i should know

And??

I've spent my fair share of time on that god forsaken lump of rock and whether you like it or not The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (commonly known as the United Kingdom, the UK, or Britain) is exactly that and it most certainly does include Northern Ireland.

You can deny it all you wish but it won't change that fact, not in your lifetime or mine.

The Poles benefitted so they must ride the wave and accept the rougher times. We are all at the mercy of certain forces that determine important things

In truth, I don't think the Polish have much to worry about. As has already been said, Poles are a resilient bunch and probably better equipped to ride this out than most of their British counterparts.

The native Irish cannot compete with the immigrant Poles. The exchange rate alone between the zloty and the pound Sterling is enough to give the Pole a huge advantage.

The ROI uses the Euro.

UK, Ireland / THE BIGGEST POLISH COMMUNITY IN U.K? [40]

Ed & David Milliband have Polish roots

Ed Milliband appeared on Andrew Marr's BBC politics show and here's what he had to say about the Polish:

"I'm not anti-Polish but they came here and reduced living standards by undercutting wage rates."
