Its up to you mate, I've overlooked changing the tyres a few times and i'm not sure what the penalties are but for peace of mind i personally would, even just change one so you have 2 matching pairs on the car, Make sure they are on the same axle.

If you don't, make sure your car is clean and displaying a clear GB sticker and you shouldn't have any issues.

I do mate, One of my friends in the UK used to work for the district council maintaining the canal and promoting conservation etc and told me on several occasions that he's found Poles trying to catch the swans etc and he had to call the police (who did nothing as usual). If you try breaking from 150 + mph (in fact from 70mph you will notice it) in an emergency and you have 2 differing brands of tyre then one wheel could break quicker than the other causing the car to pull to one side or one wheel to lock up, Also different brands of tyre dissipate water differently so it could make the car handle strangely in the wet.

Having different brands and tread pattern on the same axle is dangerous but a difference front to rear is fine.

There is an amazing difference to how different tyres perform so its safer to have identical ones on the same axle with the same amount of wear.

I run soft compound toyo's on the front to iron out any excessive understeer and uniroyal rain tyres on the rear driving wheels to aid stability in the wet, Its a setup i've used for years.

The Germans don't tend to make up unnecessary rules when it comes to driving etc but they are big on safety.

Badgers are awful things, vicious, ruin gardens and they do spread TB to cattle, when the cattle are your livelyhood you need to protect them at all costs.

I had one run out in front of me once on a country lane and it totalled my front bumper, radiator, took out 2 brake lines and demolished my fuel tank. I hate badgers!

CIS do are good to insure with and if you pay an extra 30 quid you get unlimited foriegn usage.

Ideally you should register your car in the place you are living after 6 months but as Poland is only in the EU for the sake of recieving handouts and they make their own laws thus rendering it impossible to register a rhd car just drive it anyway for as long as you want. Make sure its taxed MOT'd and insured and you will be fine.

You'll hate driving a LHD car, it just feels plain wrong + cars are about 30% more expensive here, Honestly if you plan on travelling back to the UK at least once a year keeping a UK car on the road is really easy!

1) I wouldn't bother, Poland is only in the EU simply so it can distribute its population throughout Europe and also so it can get EU funding which it can waste on train tunnels to small for a train and the lke.

2) Yes, Insure through CIS in the UK, you get extended continental cover for an extra 30 quid a year. Gives you a full year overseas.

3) Its possible but due to Poland being full of Poles they will make it impossible. As mentioned above the EU membership only applies when Poland is recieving handouts. You should expect for the person in the bank to make up excuses or even blame communism which ended 20 years ago. Failing that the blame will go to the Germans or the Jews.

Polish car insurace is expensive, fully comp is almost unheard of and I personally don' think i'd trust a PL insurer to pay out if there was a claim (I wouldn't trust any insurer but PL ones are probably worse)

On the plus side the Polish way of insuring a car as opposed to a single driver and a car is excellent.

In answer to your question I never managed to get a credit card in Poland and as i'm leaving in a few weeks I never will. (Funnilly enough I managed to get an Aussie one applying from Poland over the phone)

I managed to get a Pesal, well I think thats what it is, A scrap of calligraphy paper with a random number on it.

Regarding a phone contract I could have got one in the end but I simply didn't bother chasing it as i knew I was going to be here for 2 years.

Still having difficulties here with living a normal life and as both me and the G/F are English I guess that we will always have difficulties in Poland.

Ironically it seems that in my new home Australia, Things are over easy and everything can be done remotely before I arrive. Credit card, Bank account, I even called BMW to enquire about financing a z4 with only a 10k deposit and they would have done it there and then so long as i faxed them ID and they contacted my employer in aus to verify everything.

One extreme to the other. Perhaps one day Poland will bring itself out of the dark ages and accept the fact that the european union isn't just there to prop up its economy and they will be expected to give something back.

The architecture in the cites here is stunning but the lax attitude of people and the sheer incompentence shown by people in all aspects of life somewhat ruins the place.

The reason for this is that they are **** and just a rebodied mitsubishi charisma.

The price of cars here is ridiculous, Our winter car is a 97 bmw 320i Its in immaculate condition and we picked it up in the UK for next to nothing, Here in PL you're talking 3k for the same car.

I seriously wouldn't buy anything in Poland due to the fact that most of the vehicles on the road have been crashed and bodged back together some with serious structural damage ie pillars and the roof. Even once repaired they give the car strong or weak points which weren't engineered into the car so when you crash it it won't perform as it should. Also the chances are it will drive like a bag of **** due to the fact that Poles don't seem to ever put cars on the jig to check alignment etc

Good luck, its really not a bad journey i've driven it loads without any problem. Don't worry about the spare wheel nobody will check and don't break the speed limit until you get out of France as the french police are quite hot on UK cars speeding.

Make sure you have breakdown cover, do it through your insurance as opposed to the AA etc its much cheaper.

The speed limit on motorways is usually 140 kmh as a rule but your sat nav should tell you as you cross the borders,

For the most part the speed limit in Germany is as fast as your car will go, The majority of German Autobahns are derestricted although there is an unofficial limit of 155 mph. (kill joys :) )

The Berlin leg isn't bad at all but after Berlin up until the Polish border theres quite major roadworks and really narrow lanes so take it easy.

From the Polish border to near Poznan you will be on a road with 1 lane each way and fhuck loads of trucks. (you'll find this bit quite daunting as theres often lorries overtaking lorries whilst avoiding prostitutes)

Don't change your currency at the border wait until you get to a "Plock" fuel station on your left the Kantor there gives a good rate.

I normally take 16/17 hours from Cornwall but thats going some through Germany at night.

I'll vouch for that, the first time i ever drove in germany was in a battered 91 bmw 325i sat at 140 + mph with loads of funky noises coming from the diff and wondering why there was porsches etc flashing me to get over so they could pass at 170 odd mph. It sounds crazy but their roads seem to work like clockwork.
