Travel / Fishing in Poland - where to go, what to catch? [74]

there were some accidesnt in Russia when 1000 wolves atcaked vilage

Coordinated attack. Who on Earth can honestly say they've seen a pack of 1,000 wolves. That is something different.

just ask sb in vilage

Yup. Ask the loacals. Many men in Poland are outdoorsy so they'll relate to you and possibly even take you to a good spot. I know my uncles would. You going anywhere near Lapsze Nizne or Nowy Targ???

catfish or other tiny fish.

In the Brazilian Amazon they have 6 ft catfish that have been known to swallow children whole. Just recently they found a catfish that choked on a small local boy that was swimming with his brothers and died. It washed up on the shore and was estimated to have been 6.5 ft long.

Just a fast fact for yuh :]

I was really disappointed it was a cat fish, because i thought I'd hooked a big jewfish.

Lol

The biggest I caught was about 3 feet long. It weighed about 15kg.

In Alabama they catch those with their hands. No lie. It's a freaking sport to those guys. They put their thumbs through their mouths and gills, and then they lift with the legs and see how big it is. Then they let it go.

Maybe you can start this new sport in Poland?

History / Unusual soldier (The bear - named Voytek) [71]

"He liked a cigarette, he liked a bottle of beer - he drank a bottle of beer like any man."

Only the Polish would think that a bear just wanted a cig...

:]

This story is awesome. I want to buy the book. As soon as it hits the shelves let me know. :]

It's a shame he's not around any more - bears just don't live long enough.

He's like a Polish Balto...but a bear and not a dog...

Apparently it's cold there, like the hearts of both British and Polish people!

Someone's gotta start a new trend, right?

USA, Canada / Polish Citizen, US legal resident, but no Polish Passport... [67]

It is very hard to accomplish anything with a polish consulate. It's a joke. Forget about returning a call...and they are supposed to take care about polish citizens abroad. Ha!

Yeah. I have to renew my Polish citizenship. I plan on living in Poland someday. Career in architecture but I'll give football a try first.

It's all worth it if I can make an honest living where my family lives.

Well I'm not sure if I have to "renew" it, but something has to be done with it, that's all I know. I am a legal citizen of both the US and Poland, but I have to go to Polish consulate and get some papers signed and what not.

Love / I fancy a polish girl from my school! [139]

Better to speak your mind early, and then work towards the goal, instead of working toward a goal and making her guess what that goal is. (goal = sex)

Wodka was a gift from God....Why should we treat it like anything else?

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

Just blame it on a bad metabolism.

Aren't there pills or some kind of procedure that can speed up a person's metabilism? I heard somewhere that there was a way to do it???

Hmm...

Food / Polish Eating Habits [87]

I never really understood people who go on diets. I know plenty of girls who are in amazing shape, and have been for some while, who all of the sudden want to diet and excercise. While there's nothing wrong with that....I just never understood it because a good part of my childhood I spent my time wondering why I couldn't gain weight no matter how much I ate. Then I hit the gym and started eating 30 times a day... :]

Life / Cannabis / Weed in Poland... How much does marijuana cost per gram and how easy is to get it? [355]

Dugs

Drugs are made chemically....this just happens to be a grass that has some effects if it lights on fire. Whether they are controlled flames, or wildfires, people and animals will get high...

Used to be considered a family friendly recreation back in the day. Cowboys noticed that cows ate it and got "loopy" so they ate it, some smoked it, and shared it with the world. Used to be called Cow-weed or cow-grass, not sure, but people used to think it was actually fun for the family. Of course, the government has told us otherwise.

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

Merged: Oaks of Rogalin

All I know about this is that there are three oak trees in Rogalin named after Lech, Czech and Rus, and that they are over 700 years old.

Anybody know any other legends associated with the trees? I tried google but it all led to wikipedia or some minor sights who have more ads than info.

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

The Rogalin Landscape Park was established in 1997 in order to protect one of the largest in Europe concentrations of centuries - old pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur) that grow in the Warta River valley, and to protect numerous backwaters as well as certain historical and cultural values.
The famous Rogalin oaks have become a symbol of the Wielkopolska region.

History / POLAND: EASTERN or CENTRAL European country? [1080]

Poles are part of the Western branch of Slavs, and considered Eastern by people in the west, so it evens out and makes us Central European...

Genealogy / Rogalin / Oaks [10]

We used to have a pretty big oak in our backyard in New Jersey. Nowhere near 10 feet around, though. Ours was more like 5ft circ.

The dog always chased squirrels up the tree, and they'd crawl down just low enough to tease her.
