Rogalin / Oaks

Anyone from here or know anything about the area? I found out this is where my family came from. I am going to be taking a trip to Poland next year also. Starting to research the areas a bit.

I've been to kastle Rogalin. It's right outside Poznan.

All I know about this is that there are three oak trees in Rogalin named after Lech, Czech and Rus, and that they are over 700 years old.

Anybody know any other legends associated with the trees? I tried google but it all led to wikipedia or some minor sights who have more ads than info.

I have a Judas tree. It is the tree that Judas from the bible hung himself from after betraying Jesus 3 times. It is the most beautiful tree. In the spring it has little tiny purple buds and they even come out on the trunk, the leaves are shapped like hearts. This tree is stunning.

There is Robin Hood's Oak in Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England, Great Britain, UK, Europe, The Earth. Legend says it was where Mr. Hood and his mates had their base, but if he didn't really exist and the tree is reckoned to be about 800 years old (and may actually be several trees that have grown together), this is somewhat unlikely.

Someone ought to mention Bartek as well. Go on - get posting!

It's interesting that more often than not in European culture, it is the oak (Quercus spp.) that carries such myths.

We used to have a pretty big oak in our backyard in New Jersey. Nowhere near 10 feet around, though. Ours was more like 5ft circ.

The dog always chased squirrels up the tree, and they'd crawl down just low enough to tease her.

Rogalin is a village in western Poland, situated on the river Warta. It lies approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) east of the town of Mosina, and 19 km (12 mi) south of the metropolitan city of Poznań. It is perhaps best known for the Rogalin Landscape Park and its oak trees.
