Exactly such system is in place at the moment and PiS wants to extend it without opening Polish market for the grain. Identical measures are demanded by the Romanian, Bulgarian, Slovakian and Hungarian governments.

Have you been to Russia? If not, you should go one day after the war. You would be surprised. I met only kindhearted and generous people there. People who are, by and large, poor but who will share what little they have with a stranger (and not exactly from a friendly country). A year in Russia? I wouldn't mind. Every reader of this thread can judge for himself how serious my "lies" here are, especially compared to what Shmyhal said. Also, I linked an interesting article from German-owned Onet, written by a former diplomat during the 1st government of Donald Tusk, exposing Ukrainian lies. Well worth reading.

Besides, inaccuracies in my posts are meaningless, I am nobody important. On the other hand, what Ukrainian Prime Minister, and a trusted man of President Zelensky, says is very important. Especially when he lies about one of Ukraine's most important allies. As Feniks rightly noticed "biting the hand that feeds" - tsk, tsk, tsk.

Shmyhal made his statement very recently, a couple of days ago, when no blocking of Ukrainian grain was in place - on the contrary, the transit through Poland more than doubled since January, so your analogy fails.

He was lying in the vain hope that Poland would open our market to Ukrainian grain, to the huge detriment of our farming.

It might have been certain people (more probably than not connected with PiS) who decided to help Ukrainian oligarchs to make money (for proper remuneration, no doubt) but it is them who wanted (and still want, as we can see from their constant demands to open the Polish market) to sell their grain here.

If you read my post closely, you will notice that I wrote that Poland "accepted 4 million Ukrainian refugees".

... and the article is from January. I'd say that since the war began we have definitely accepted 4 million refugees. Half of them might or might not have come back to Ukraine, but the overall number of those whom we accepted (even if only temporarily) doesn't seem too exagerrated.

Gdańsk has half a million of inhabitants (the ones with meldunek) and the Tricity metropolitan area has about 1.4 million. In Chinese terms it might be called a small city, but in Poland it is generally considered quite large. :)


Definitely not all of those who came/are coming get Pesels. When I lived in Ireland (2005-2008) there were throngs of Poles who never applied for the Irish PPS numbers and worked na czarno, and also many never got their registration of residence and just lived with their families or friends. I bet the same thing is happening with Ukrainians in Poland now.

The number of border crossings can be misleading as well. Some people crossed the border multiple times since they came here, some without documents - especially early in the war - and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Border Guards having a bit of burdel in their papers in the last 18 months. Can't blame them.

So, for every three Ukrainian refugees two have already come back to Ukraine? I don't know where you are from exactly, Pawian, but in Gdańsk it seems like for every Ukrainian that was here a year ago three more came. I don't mind - most of them are lovely people (with obvious exceptions, just like with Polish emigrants in the West) - but I don't think they will be going home en masse any time soon. I meet quite a few on a daily basis and not only they have no intention of going back to Ukraine, they are bringing their close and not-so-close families here.
