When the Soviets put some bad s*** in Cuba in 1962, the US went nuts and was ready to go to war with them. Now, NATO, that toothless military welfare receipient still in the US pocket, rolled its hardware right up to the Russia's doorstep, meddled in Ukraine, and put sanctions on Russia for their "aggression" in Crimea. I used the quotation marks around aggression because Crimea was always part of the USSR and was given to Ukraine by Kruschev with the population nearly all Russian. With Ukraine going west, no wonder Putin wanted his Crimea back to keep that military base there.

If Kosovo can decide for itself what it wants to be, so can Crimea. There was a vote, nobody got shot, case closed.

That ex KGB man, bad Putin, is going to church to pray nowdays. I would take him over that a-hole Obama any day for his patriotism and the determination to keep Russia as well off as he can. How true. All the Polish engineers at my last place of employment were the very best and at the top withing the engineering department. They would argue, just like me, but they were smart and supremely proactive. One of them would walk into my office to tell me that I am a very manager. My response was that I liked his balls to tell me that to my face. He left confused and laughing.

When I came to the US in 1967, I instantly ran into the Polack jokes. One of them was on a bulletin board of Stewart Warner where I started, showing a revolver with the barrel pointing back and Polish Gun right under it. That bs lasted about a day or two. Then I threw a fit, told them that some of the best guns are made in Radom, and that it was the American-made M-16's there were often found jammed next to dead Americans in Vietnam. Nobody ever offered a Polish joke in my presence.


My wife is Polish. She came to the States when she was 17 so she speaks very good Polish. We married in 1970 and when our first daughter turned 1 and showed signs of being annoyed by other kids in an all Anglo 'hood because of the few Polish words she picked up from us, one day we switched to the English only, with no exceptions, between ourselves and everywhere else. This decision paid off very well. The the extra money I earned as a manager and later as a director, the position I held until my retirement was a tangible proof. Had I clinged on my Polish heritage, whatever it means while living in "America", I would have never been promoted, and, thus, denied the extra 50 grand a year for about 20 years. That 50 is my immediate salary raise plus the managerial bonus. Do the math and see what being fluent in English does to your cash flow.

Even in Poland it pays to know English. A friend came to the States a while back. Her son hated it here so he went back. Luckily, with his English he became a tour guide for foreign tourists. Last time I heard, he was doing very well.

Without trying to be funny or offensive, there is only one reason why a Polish person deserves to be called dumb or stupid: it's for clinging to everything Polish - the newspapers, books, movies, TV, radio, bars, restaurants, and the company he keeps, while neglecting English and the immersion in the culture of the country he chose to be his new home. If this is your choice you lose the right to complain about the non-assimilating Muslims and how you are being exploited at your low-paying job.

Are you OK? Unidiomatic phrases after 50 years of not using the language? I can barely put a sentence together in Polish without some hesitation. Plus,I did my damnest to forget it and switch to English everywhere - at home, at work, in the Polish stores and restaurants, even in the Polish Consulate - to the total exclusion of Polish. My kids do not know one word in Polish other than kielbasa, pierogi and oplatek. I made sure that they would not have any split loyalties and learn that terrible Polish the locals here do.

So, don't make me laugh with those "unidiomatic" phrases. If you stayed in bed for 50 years, you wouldn't know how to walk.

I agree. The Polish model is in my opinion unsustainable. A country cannot rely on exporting its population in the millions for a bribe. Or for a fake NATO security. I wish Poland the very best and in some way I like the idea of the US troops there. Except that the US troops are there today and maybe gone tomorrow, but Russia is going to be where it's at - as we say here - forever.

The idea that the US will go to war with Russia over Poland is beyond insane. The US lost Korea, Vietnam, and can't flush the toilet in Afghanistan and go home. We are broke and can't or won't even protect ourselves at the Mexican border. The Russia-US war will never happen no matter what Russia does to Poland because that war would have to be nuclear.

Any gesture toward Russia by Poland is in my view a good move as Russia and the Eastern Europe is the white Christians' last stand. That is why Putin vs Obama comparisons were so lopsided here in "America". FYI, Putin was a runaway winner and Obama a source of shame. What's happening today is insanity.

You may have a point. Here, in the best country on earth, aka the USA, engaging perfect strangers in a short smalltalk is routine. While cruising,I often end up at McDonalds for breakfast. On many occasions, I would notice a group of older guys just sitting there, sipping coffee and enjoying their conversation. As shyness is what I left in Poland, I would walk right up, say hi and ask if I can join in. Always and without any exceptions I was greeted with sure sit down. With my usual sensitivity in such matters, my first question is often, is this a Trump territory or Hillary? BTW, the only time the response was "Hillary" it was to have fun with me for a moment.

Are you talking about me or some other person? I am asking since I never expressed any "hate" toward the Polish Consulate. I can express hate directly by saying "I hate..." without relying on your unusual ability to read between the lines or filling in the missing words I chose deliberately not to write.

Which brings me to the subject of freedom of speech. Once I knew a Russian working at the same place where I was. Sometimes we would go lunch and talk about things. OK. Time to fess up.

One morning, after taking a badly overdue leak, I fired my computer and, bored out of my mind, I decided to create my new alternate reality. My being an American finally got to me. Like how much of that anyone can take without going nuts.

Just like some guys with all the plumbing, prostate and all decide to be a chicks, I resolved to be a European. Being black or Asian was not an option for obvious reasons.

Not being sure from what country, I took a dart from my desk and, with both of my eyes fully closed, I just threw it at the world map in my rec room. And, wouldn't you know, it landed smack on - you guessed it right - Warsaw, Poland. Wow, holy s***, now I was Polish. Then I realized that I need some supporting docs in case I get challenged by some annoying clowns on PL.com.

Consistent with that, I created a fake diploma from the Politechnika, a birth certificate (USC would be envious how it came out) and, finally a counterfeit US passport showing clearly that I was born in Warsaw, Poland, instead of Indiana. The fact that this act carries some major penalties - you see, the feds here take very dim view of such activities - was not a factor in my decision because the fun I would have yanking some distrusting moron's chain would be worth the risk of serving years in a federal pen. Not to mention the fines.

I would suggest a small correction to the above sentence:

A country and its citizens should have the final and legally binding say in what happens within their boundaries on matters as critical to the nation's survival.

The hardest thing to explain to those born in the West is that their "democracies" are an illusion and that they are just useful tools, with some, like a typical liberal American voter, being just useful idiots. They are unable and unwilling to accept the idea that they just as powerless to have a say in the most critical decisions as we were under the Soviets.

Like who comes. Admittedly, the commies controlled also who goes and kept us at the lowest standard of living short of causing riots like in 1970. And that's about it.

A quick test: If all Germans want x and the top 10,000 with their fuhrer Merkel want y - y being open borders to the scum nobody wants, what would be the outcome?

Comparing a family with a country is actually easy. My place has this invisible red line with an invisible message: you cross it without my permission, you die. And I have a very nice Beretta which is always loaded and ready to enforce the above rule. Why do we look at Israel with disapproval for having the same approach to the invaders is beyond me.

My point is that my rule does not allow any strangers in, even if they promised to cut my grass and shovel snow - things I just don't like doing. Yes, I can if based on statistics. Generalization does not mean everybody. It only means that there is a pattern worth considering when my safety is concerned. Five Koreans teenagers walking down the street - no problem. Five black teenagers - big problem.

The problem is that the term "refugee" aquired a new meaning. A refugee, typically a woman with kids, used to be a person who needed a safe place while her homeland was on fire. Once the fire was out, refugees were expected to go back home. Not any more. Like herpies, refugees are forever. It's like a guest that never leaves after the party is over.

Another problem is that if a refugee leaves a shi--- like Guatemala because he was "scared for his life", which, of course, is a damn lie, and is now in Mexico, he is safe. Yet, the scum quickly morphs into an undocumented immigrant looking for better life in "america" and the dumb US falls for this crap as it must because the US has no border, only some funny guys called CBP that merely register said immigrants and turn them loose but can't stop them the Israeli style.

My comments about Poland are such a review. Add to this my 50 years of not using Polish, and the decision was simple when I realized I would be dealing with morons in the event of a medical emergency. At my age and after two incidents where my life was on the line, nothing is more important. When Poland passes a law that will require all hospitals to treat all patients with life threatening conditions without asking a single question before the treatment starts, I may reconsider. It was not simple. At a conference in Western Europe, my father met a guy who was the head of PLM in Maastricht in Holland - a Dutch version of Instytut Electrotechniki w Miedzylesiu. After my graduation in 1966, both me and my father worked at the Instytut. I picked that place to make it easier for me to get a leave of absence for three months "to go na praktyke at PLM" almost immediately after I started.

The next step was to get the passport. At that time, it was either private (blue?) or panstwowy (green). I got green and only for Europe, so I was good to go to Holland and no farther. Still, as soon as my foot was on the Dutch soil, I was at the US Consulate in Rotterdam to apply for the US immigration status. It took a while, but after 9 months I was finally on my way to NY. The hardest part was to extend my passport to the US. Without that, I could not go there without going through the process of applying for a political asylum in Germany. That idea was never an option for me. Instead, my father used his contacts at UB to get me what I needed. No, he was never a member of PZPR but did some consulting for UB. End of the story.

You are correct. My bad. It was Solec 99. The hospital is also on Solec down the street. I stayed on Dobra 22/24 through AirBnB.

The fact that the clinic and the hospital are public does not change anything. If they don't take credit cards the minimum a decent human being with a functioning brain would do is direct a sick guy like me to the nearest private facility. Instead, as under commies, the moron just wanted to get rid of me without any valid reason like me being impolite. I was too sick to be impolite and I spoke as well and anyone in Poland, as at no time my Polish was an issue.

Poland has a problem of the habits and the customs from the days of communism still lingering. Eventually, you will be like the US where a customer is more important than a clerk and getting information does not involve what we compare to pulling teeth. On the other hand, I admit that the US Embassy was just as bad, but that's another story.
