Lets not make excuses. Duda won. He won because Trzaskowski did not come out hard enough on some issues. He couldnt get voters to cross over. He was a very well spoken, and bright candidate. He simply didnt have teeth to go directly after hard votes. Poland gets what it deserves, another 3 to 5 years of backward spending government and a continued walk down the path of authoritarian government. So, more old people need to die off before things change. Its life and life moves on. So be it. My pierogi will still taste the same when I get home and my dog will still enjoy walks in planty. Little will effect me as long as I can continue to bring money in from outside Poland. In the end its every man for themselves.

People might not exist in that time too. Far right ideals are not going to move Poland forward. They will crash and burn as they always have. The only path forward for Poland is the center, the left is a failed experiment just like the right. The problem is the nut cases on both sides who wont let go of crazy ideas. If PiS is actually trying to force a Trump appointee out, it will not end well for relations with Trump. He does the firing and no one else. And if Biden actually gets in? Ohhh thats going to throw a wrench into things PiS is hopping for with the US. Biden will spend all that money Poland hopes for on special interests in the US and not in Poland. There wont be any new military base in Poland either.

While PiS won, and they will do much of what they want within Poland, as is their right as ruling party, they need to be careful not to pi$$ off others they depend on. This will be very interesting to see how political relationships shake out.

US doesn't need Poland for presence and irritating effect to Russia. Latvia is begging the US to come in. This is the Polish problem, they think the US needs them when the US only tolerates them as a government. The US never sticks to one country forever. They use them as long as needed and move on. Iraq, Kuwait, and others come to mind.

Trump is one thing. Loyal. He just proved that by pardoning Roger Stone. He didn't care what anyone thought. He wasn't going to see his friend in jail, and he wont let Poland push this one around either. If we're going to discuss this, lets at least do it honestly and not color it with hopes and dreams. No way Trump brings her home. She will resign if Trump is done after November.

Be careful what you wish for. Biden will put s very smart politician in place and Biden though a "nice" guy, wont allow himself to look soft. He will have a pandemic to deal with and he will have to be hard. What did Poland get under Obama? Nothing. And Biden will continue that with a huge troop reduction right away.

I agree with your assessment in basic form. In the game of politics though, the threat of moving assets to a different country is very real. Trump is not always rational, and he doesn't really care about Duda or PiS. Trump wants what he wants and gets what he wants when it comes to personnel. He wont let PiS influence his choice. PiS runs the risk of pi$$ing Trump off and thats never wise. I think we can all agree on that.

While I agree with a lot of what you both talk about, civil unions and marriages will never happen in Poland. It is a waste of time argument when the vast majority of Poles don't support it. If they want to get married do so in a different country that allows it. They should however be allowed to "will" their partners their property at death, and they should be allowed to have access to medical information if someone is in the hospital. Basic rights like that would be fair.

Focusing on this issue takes away from the real issue effecting everyone regardless of political affiliation. The economy, taxes, ZUS, entitlements, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, and immigration. These are the issues, not gays.

The deposit then should be placed in an interest bearing account and returned with interest. Unfortunately though yes, landlords for residential property love to keep deposits and mark up common wear and tear as damage.

Demonstrations wont stop and strikes will do deeper damage to the economy than these idiots have already done with nonsensical closures. Just back from Rynek. At least 30 police vans and cars full of officers protecting Mariacki. Not a single regular person standing in the way of thousands of protesters heading to the square. Two pubs open serving food and drinks outside and police doing nothing.

PiS is simply a new version of the Russian form of oppressive government based on ideals that will not stand the test of time. If the visa is extended, it is automatic and no appointment necessary. This only happens when there is an official announcement on that policy, which I dont believe has happened yet again, but may in the next 10 days.

Biden is what he is, a politician a tax and spend democrat. A foreign policy experienced politician that other world leaders will respect, and Poland leaders fear. Wrong. Berlin wont let anyone in. The best way is through Amsterdam. Or a direct flight to Warsaw from Chicago or NYC. You better have good documents though or you wont get on the plane to start your trip.
