Call and kindly ask to bring the proof of the "electricity bill increase" as you "can't find any info on that". Clean up. When they show up forget about "good relationship" and be firm about your point - the place is clean, nothing damaged, here is the rent agreement, I need my deposit. As a last resort, if they don't return it, let them know you will consult with a lawyer and the issue will have to be settled in court (just LOOK like you mean it).

What are some benefits of the EU resident card outside of Poland? I'm particularly interested in correlation with local immigration laws. It could take 6 months in one voivodeship and 1 year in another. Different governmental offices work with different speed. Bigger cities process applications slower due to larger number of applicants. I guess researching and networking in a particular area would give you a clearer picture.

Too many decisions and regulations the government introduces are heavily influenced by the Catholic Church lobby. Starting from the innocent niedziele niehandlowe and up to the abortion laws.

South of Poland is the most polluted part of the country. Silesia and party Lesser Poland are historically industrial regions. Coal mines are still a big deal here. People heat houses with coal and.. burn trash (a habit the government is trying to regulate by fines). Hence the smog.

Anything on the teaching workload? I saw couple job offers (public schools) that said 18hrs/w and 21hrs/w full time. Is there a standard?

"Blat" is the word you mean. As opposed to soft "l" in "blyat". To have a "blat" means to be connected, to know people who can help you out or get you whatever you want that other people can't get. The word is from 80s 90s and is not really used these days.. Well, maybe still in Russia haha..

As for the post-training employment, I don't really count on finding a job in those cities. Smaller towns sometimes offer decent pay + accommodations. And I'm not that hungry for "big city life".

I am currently employed by a private language school and we have only one American teacher and one Brit. The rest of the staff are non-native speakers (Spain, Brazil, Ukraine, Polish teachers of course) and the owner is OK with that. Apparently in Poland it's not a big deal (but it might depend on a school)
