News / Lech Walesa urged to "reduce Russia" to 50 million people [352]

dare to criticize Putin in Russia?

You can criticize Putin all day in Russia. You can do it outside of Russia, as a Russian, as well.

What you cannot do, is:

1) Discredit the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation

2) Receive money from abroad, and use it in attempts to influence popular opinion in Russia.

3) Send, or facilitate the sending of, funds to aid the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

4) Disseminate state secrets of Russia

5) Publicly call for the overthrow of the Russian government, or for the break up of Russia into a collection of smaller republics.

Not so hard to follow, no?

I am reading "Are we there yet" by Morris Berman now

...

Democracy in America by Alex de Tocqueville

If you read such good books, why do you write such utterly crazy things sometimes?

Just produce and give to UA the same amount of nukes

Did you finish the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard? This level of analysis seems reminiscent of what their graduates produce.

A guy like Ronald Raegan would have done something like it

Not even a drunk and high Reagan would ever do such a thing.

In fact, the United States would rather hand the victory to Putin, then recognize a nuclear armed Ukraine. You know as well as I do that that's the truth.

Have to leave now....'night! :)

Haha, stop being so afraid of Poles! They know our closeness, and let them be worried - food for thought.

BTW, all what I said, does not mean I don't love Poland also. Schizophrenic as it may seem. Maybe more than Germany even :)

The ties between Russia and Germany are absolutely unbreakable.

Look at our past... we always find a way to step over the unpleasant moments.

We have a mutual destiny. Brains/Discipline + Power/Resources = LOVE.

I loved that with many of them there were still a dialect and cultural customs alive since before centuries

They started coming in the 12th century, perhaps earlier.

Then when Peter the Great came, their population truly exploded.

Finally, they became our ruling dynasty, through Peter's descendants.

The reason Peter invited so many Germans, was to industrialize and modernize Russia - to make it able to compete with other great European powers.

imagine there would still be a sizable german minority in Ukraine

Nobody expelled them. I think you are thinking of the 1940s, and a different geography.

Most Germans left Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Russia in the 1990s. A couple million.

Now they live in Germany and vote for AfD. We thank them for this. It's also nice to come to Germany and find so many people that speak pure Russian.

But these were not "your" Germans. These were "our" Germans. Germans that lived with us for centuries. These guys were deported by Stalin, during the war, to keep them from falling into Hitler's hands as Volksdeutsch.

I wonder about that pro-russian stance of the Hungarians

The Ukrainians are doing the same sh*t to them as they are to Russians.

They make them study from Ukrainian textbooks, and learn their stupid ape language - even though Hungarians never in their life lived under Ukraine or spoke their language. Also, despite the constitutionally guaranteed rights of minorities.

So Orban has the same problem we do. He doesn't want his people learning to love this fake new country.

As a German you should have sympathy for Hungary, because they lost more than you. 2/3 of historical Hungary is now in Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, etc.

This historic psychological trauma still drives much of their foreign policy.

@Bratwurst Boy

Yes blue is Russian.

The reason you see blue in the far west is because that is where another minority lives - the Hungarians of Transcarpathia. They also hate the idea of a Ukrainian state. They always voted together with the Russian-leaning segment of the population, in an attempt to ward off the crazy Ukrainian nationalists.

The region in the northeast and north that is blue has also been historically very pro-Russian. Long to explain, but they are also not confident in that Kiev represents their interests.

@Bratwurst Boy

Sure here's two maps.

The first map shows, by region, what percent of population claimed Russian as their native language.

The second map shows the results of the 2010 elections, won by Yanukovich.

You can see the two sort of overlap. Russian speaking regions primarily gave their votes to Yanukovich.

An actual ethnic map of Ukraine is difficult to produce. Ukraine has conducted its last census back in 2000. In that census, only 17% or so self identified as Russian. The previous censuses in the 1990s produced totally different results. What it shows, is that many people transitioned from calling themselves Russian to calling themselves Ukrainian.

The actual number of people that have "Russian" blood, is anyone's guess, because Ukraine is such an insane mixing pot of Russians, Ukrainians, Poles, Tatars, Gypsies, Hungarians, etc.

Do you have an actual ethnic map of Ukraine? You know where actually pro-Russia Russians live and where not?

There are both.

I think it's not so important where Russians live, but rather what the electoral map looked like before 2014.

The regions where the "Party of Regions" won, are pro-Russian.

The regions where Yushenko and Poroshenko won, are pro-Western.

Roughly, this translate to the East, South, and parts of the center being pro-Russian. Then parts of Central and Western Ukraine are pro-Western.

The North is sort of a mix of everybody.

That is the idea

Crimea is mountainous.

Crimea is only accessible through two tiny bridges from Ukraine.

The Crimean population is loyal to Russia.

Ukraine can't even get its monkeys to liberate territory that they controlled as recently as 2022. I would really like to see them try it on Crimea.

If Ukraine manages to clear the approaches in Kherson, that would allow them to get close to Crimea - the first thing Russia will do is blow those bridges. What then?

Are we going to see a Ukrainian D-Day? Tens of thousands of inflatable boats powered by Yamaha engines descending upon the beaches of Crimea? Hahahaha

Symbolically though, Crimea would be a loss I dont think he could come back from.

Of course Putin could not recover from losing Crimea. That would set us back not to February of 2022, but all the way back to 2014. A pretty disastrous result.

But going from "the Kerch Bridge is destroyed" to "Crimea is lost" - is a huge leap.

Britain and France (and the Ottoman Turks) were not able to effectively dislodge Russia from Crimea during the Crimean War. Back then there was no bridge, and the French and British had pretty complete dominance over the seas.

Hitler spent 20X more men and material taking Crimea than he originally expected. This involved using the largest artillery gun in history, and basically burying all the defenders of Sevastopol under collapsing cliffs. Crimea was a sort of Stalingrad, in miniature.

It's not like all the Russians in Crimea will get on boats and start rowing towards Russia as soon as the bridge collapses. No... you still need to invade the peninsula. You still need to supply Ukrainian forces as they campaign there. You need to have adequate reserves to not just conquer the place, but to occupy it too - since the Crimeans are not big fans of Ukraine.

Does Ukraine have the manpower for that?

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2040]

No, it wasn't. It was a war between communism and capitalism

I doubt even the Bolsheviks and Pilsudski thought of it in those terms.

It was a war to reassemble the pieces remaining in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, in preparation for further struggle.

It is still a strategic naval port, though, yes?

It still has a strategic naval port

It is still infinitely dear to us as the place where Rus was baptized, as the scene of some our greatest feats of martial valor, as a strategic naval base, as a place a containing millions of our compatriots, and as a beloved resort.

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2040]

What do you mean by it being a liability?

The peninsula is not so much a peninsula, but more an island.

So the "liability" part is dictated by it being severable. To sever it completely, would mean cutting the Kerch Bridge, and then the two small bridges that link Crimea to mainland Ukraine.

In the first stage of the war, it was rather an asset. An assembling ground from which we could project force North.

Now most of the logistical operations are based in and around Rostov, as are the majority of the air bases and munitions depots.

News / Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades - part 10 [2040]

that bridge will be gone

If ATACMS of the right sort are transferred, the bridge is likely done. Until the war is over, that is, or Ukraine is pushed far enough back that it can't reach it even with ATACMS.

However, this won't have the impact it would have had just 6-12 months ago.

The reason - I have already shared with you. There is now a land bridge to Crimea, by rail. Locomotives are already crossing it. Crimea no longer plays an all important role of logistical hub, but is now rather more of a liability.

News / Ups and downs of the democratic government 2023-2027 in Poland [160]

I can tell you are a hopeless imperial Russian who is rejected by native patriotic Poles and Polesses for your sick agenda.

A sick agenda?

To make your old Polish ass smile, every now and then?

To bring some meaning into your life?

To teach you some new things?

You will miss me when I'm gone.

You did it, hoping a few naive simpletons reading us would believe your crap.

In my daily life - I long ago lost hope of changing anybody's mind about anything. Now, if a person tells me 1 + 1 = 17, I just agree.

What I write on PF is not meant to change anybody's mind. Instead, it's like going to the toilet, if your gastroenterologist has requested a sample.

I relieve myself, then I examine the results. I am trying to learn more about myself, than others.

A good one which was uttered over beer or wine exactly 10 years ago.

But CMS Neuf provided an excellent blowjob just now... it's why I felt the quote was relevant.

do you personally remember what you said 10 years ago exactly

You mentioned countries ruled by communists, criminals, rogues or terrorists. Western involvement there meant eliminating those corrupt rulers and introducing democracy.

How lovely.

definition of modern optics to the rest of the world.

Thermal cameras with active cryogenic cooling of the imaging sensor, providing a resolution of 640×512 pixels? 640 x 512 is of course not as great as Western counterparts, but it allows you to make out whether something is a tank or a shed at a distance of a few kilometers.

According to the manufacturer, it allows for the:

"detection of infantry at a distance of 5 km, armored vehicles at 11 km, and helicopters at 14 km."

Thank you France, for helping us catch up.

I said we restore 120 a month. Rubber gasket replacement, wiring, metal defectation, installation of modern optics, etc...

Meanwhile, America has provided 31 Abrams tanks.

@Bobko

Just tanks - Western analysts count 3,500 remaining in storage. This is data from this week. Our plants are able to restore approx 120 of these per month, and produce 20-30 new ones.

Artillery systems in storage... is simply a crazy number. In excess of 12,000+ units (including SPA and towed).

Meanwhile, Ukraine is glorying in the fact that it destroyed 250+ vehicles in the defense of Avdeevka.
