Come on. No one living in Warsaw interested going today? The prices are so low the admission is basically free.

Travel / Horror House in Warsaw [20]

I just got into Warsaw today and noticed signs up in the Old Town about the Horror House. The website looks pretty awesome and it only costs 25 zloty for a single person not in a group.

Would anyone else be interested in going tomorrow? horrorhouse.pl

Travel / From Warsawa Centralna to Old Town hotel [4]

What's the best way to get from the Warsaw Central Station to the Old Town at 4pm on a weekday? If taxi is the best option, how much should this cost and would it be acceptable to negotiate the price with the driver beforehand?

Travel / Bus from Mrągowo to Gierloz (Wolf's Lair) [2]

So I'm using the website for intercity bus travel that someone recommended in a different post ( en.e-podroznik.pl ). For the Mrągowo departure station, it gives me two different options and bus operators:

Mrągowo D.A. (PKS "Polonus" w Warszawie S.A) or Mrągowo ul.Curie-Skłodowskiej (ExpressBus Transport Osobowy)

Each connection has a layover in Ketrzyn.

We're staying in the Mrągowo Mercure Hotel. Is there any difference between these two stations/operators in terms of convenience? Are the bus tickets bought directly from the driver or in a machine at the station? (I'd prefer not to book online in advance due to the uncertain schedule.) Also, would the full fare be charged for a 3-year old child?

Travel / Milk Bars in Warsaw's Old Town [18]

Just because milk bars serve cheap food doesn't mean that food and hygiene standards are somehow worse than in other more expensive cafes/restaurants. I'm wondering why you would think that.

It's because I don't know anything about them. I wasn't sure whether they were comparable to a soup kitchen in the US in terms of the people who can be found there.

They do come into cafes though, even nice ones.

Do the cafe/restaurant owners tolerate this?

Travel / Bus or Street Car in Warsaw [2]

Is it better to use a bus or street car to get around town in Warsaw?

We probably won't be using taxis since they don't have child carseats.

Travel / Milk Bars in Warsaw's Old Town [18]

I've read a bit about the Polish milk bars and I must admit I find them intriguing based on the notion of the nondescript storefronts, hearty meals, and communist-era atmosphere. However, are the milk bars safe to frequent in terms of cleanliness and other customers? I'd prefer not to get a stomach bug, food poisoning, or be attacked or harassed for money by a group of drunken bums.

Is there such a thing as a safe, clean, and family-friendly milk bar in or near Warsaw's old town?

Life / Polish Attitudes toward America [36]

Most Germans just repeat what they hear on the news and are not shy about expressing their (uninformed) negative views especially about America, but also Russia, Poland, Hungary, Syria, and basically any other country that doesn't tow the line of the German government.

I'd be interested to know what the average Pole thinks of America.

What is the quality of the tap water in Poland? Is it safe to drink right from the faucet?

Travel / WARSAW OLD-TOWN RESTAURANTS? [25]

Merged:

Restaurant recommendations in Warsaw's Old Town

In addition to our time in Mragowo, we'll also be spending two days in the Warsaw Old Town. We'd like to find a couple of quality restaurants in the Old Town with a casual family-friendly atmosphere (3-year-old child) that specialize in traditional hearty Polish food. I seek to avoid places offering hipster, new-age, or foreign cuisine. I've read the reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor, but you never know who's writing these. I think I can get better advice on this forum and would be very grateful for it.

Travel / Bank ATMs at Warsaw Chopin Airport [8]

Thanks. I've heard stories of Germans trying to withdraw money outside the eurozone and the ATMs asking for a 6-number PIN. Does this ever happen in Poland?

Travel / Travel Within Poland - from Warsaw airport to Mragowo [49]

Based on the all helpful information I've received here, we plan to first withdraw money at an ATM at the Warsaw Chopin airport, then take a subway/bus to the Warsaw Central Station, then a train to Olsztyn, then a bus to Mragowo, and finally a taxi to the hotel.

Any tips on what bank ATM at the airport to use and where it is located?

Can anyone give some advice about how best to get from the Warsaw Chopin airport to the Warsaw Central train station? We will have a good amount of luggage and a child with us, so I would guess a subway might be more convenient than a bus. Any tips on which subway line to take and how to find the departure platforms in the Chopin airport?

Which restaurants in Mragowo do you recommend? We're looking for good-quality traditional Polish food (but no fish).

Jon: What bus stop should we get off at? Are there several in Mragowo?

A nice and fairly new 100 square meter apartment in a nicer part of Frankfurt can easily get over €2,000/month. It would be rare to find places that expensive in Berlin.

My god those are some low prices. If the absolute worst case scenario involves having to pay €16 for a ticket that should cost €1 or €2, I think I can live with that. Thanks so much for your input. Now I just need to figure out which bus stop in Mragowo to get off at for Hotel Mercure Mragowo.
