I do realize there are quite a few topics about the driving license, therefore I apologize for creating a new one - because I was unable to find the required information that would help me worry less.

One week ago I have discovered that somehow I lost my driving license, as I didn't manage to find it anywhere. I am an European citizen and had a driving license released by my home country. Being a resident in Poland for almost a year, I started the procedure to have it replaced with a new, Polish one, that would take up to one month - a process that seemed so fast and smooth.

My curiosity is the following: since I have to drive everyday back and forth to work, I have asked the employee from Urząd Miasta whether it is possible or not to drive until my driving license will be renewed, on which question he replied that I should definitely be able to do so, however if a mean cop might stop me and he would want to create problems, he will be able to do it - while giving me a proof that I requested for a new one.

If someone with more knowledge would kindly inform me what exactly should be the procedure, I will deeply appreciate it.

To mention, I did ask many of my co-workers and friends but still we couldn't find any useful information.

Of course they would issue a new one, since it is declared lost - they will renew it. One of my co-workers in a similar situation, she had her driving license expired and she had it renewed after doing the psychosocial and medical evaluation.

I will ask someone to help me by contacting someone from a police station, since I couldn't find someone who is speaking English.

Because as a legally Polish resident I am entitled to receive such assistance. The procedure was quite simple, I gathered all documents required to prove that I am residing here legally: working contract, identification card/ passport (from my home country), the paper with pesel and the certificate of residency given by the council - declared on my own responsibility that the driver license was indeed lost and not retained by other competent agencies.

And so I was informed, that the part that will take the most will be receiving information about my previous one, released by my home country - up to one month.

All of this information was previously given by the embassy that is residing in Warsaw, as they kindly informed me that my passport can be renewed by the embassy in work local authorities due to the accords between our countries. An European passport, with information about my nationality (place of birth) and also the place where I currently reside.

I might be unaware of the specifics on some procedures, however I was nicely pleased to discover I am living in a country that has better implemented systems to help its residents.

They are not suggesting it, they are actually doing it. It is an European driving license released by the Polish authorities, after they will check the authenticity of my previous one.

As I previously stated, my co-worker made a new one by almost the same procedures, the difference was that she had it expired and therefore needed to complete a few medical exams.

I must say, I am impressed by how well things are going. A similar procedure exists also in Denmark, as another colleague of mine had it renewed in a quite similar way - the difference was that he needed to contact the embassy to provide a legal document that states the authenticity and the specifics of his previously license; however it might have been that way because of the differences between the country's relationships.

I have been living for almost one year in this city and though I may not have visited many inspiring places (because I am basically a sloth), I must say that I was lucky enough to find a few awesome people and also my best friend here. So far it has been a pleasant experience and I am looking forward for the upcoming experiences.

In my general experience, if you are a hard working person who likes being challenged on many levels, it is impossible to not enjoy it here.

Making friends was by far the most difficult part, because of the language barrier.
People are people and because of its diverse nature, a place cannot be judged by its citizens - which after-all, will make the experience a nice one.

Usually the bank exchange rates are better/lower, whoever I would recommend her to check the actual rates via internet banking.
The best and easier way to do that, would be simulating a transfer in another currency.

@jedrzej I would disagree with you, because I moved here for a job and managed to live a decent life while being able to save money without earning as much as it was claimed here.

And about the media services, per say for internet I got a decent deal 50 zloty per month, unlimited traffic with download/upload up to 170/75 mbs; which happens to be cheaper than my home-country or the subscription I had in Denmark.

Cannot really complain about the food, I mean you can find many nice things but for its sole purpose is more than ok.
Regarding the cars in Poland, similar situations can happen everywhere - not only in Poland, since it is a matter of luck and knowledge.
I wouldn't advertise it so badly, because at the length of my experiences similar situations have happened in further more socially evolved societies.
It isn't a matter of the things that might happen to you, but how you deal with it - as injustice is bound to happen everywhere.

One example of an unpleasant experience is how an acquaintance of mine was threatened and the police's response what that he should return to the country from where he is coming.

That happened in Poland. I am sure there are two sides of the story, but there has to be a seed of truth to it.

The person was planning anyway to leave Poland.
Xenophobia and discrimination isn't shocking news, whoever it's saddening when you see it developed into a system whose job is to protect its citizens and residents.

Net salary.
I have friends that earn less than half of what I mentioned.
After all, everything depends on whether your choices will be expensive or not and how fast you will be able to adapt to a new currency.

For example I pay rent on a small 2 bedrooms flat with utilities included 1600 zloty which would leave me to about 2500 zloty for expenses.
Driving my car is costing me about 600 zloty per month and I will be left 1900 and my friend is earning 1600 zloty.
So from those 1900 pln, you can save 450 zloty and the rest have it as expenses fund.

It depends what are you expectations and what sort of life-style you are determined to live.
That kind of work position is well paid around Europe and certainly the case shouldn't be too different for Poland.
So I'd recommend you to get interested on how well this job is paid in other countries, so that you will have a compass to know how much you should expect and negotiate.

I only simulated from the experiences I had after living in Poland for almost one year.
The lowest I earned, was 2000 zloty and I managed to survive until another opportunity came among.

@Gosc123456 I'm sorry to intervene, I just needed to state a few things. When a person likes spending money, I can't see how they will be able to save.

I am not a Polish citizen though I reside here and I work in a multi-national company that is hiring foreigners that are earning less then I do, though they are not relying on their families they are still able to live a decent life, as so am I.

They were able to afford dental care, dress, go out and survive - in fact, they afforded even a plane ticket.

I hope my message it didn't upset anyone in any way.
I may not know better, however I'd really like to hear more about such expenses.
