Genealogy / Buczenski, Ostrowski and Matysiak. Discovering village/parish family came from? [6]

Hi Liz, If you ever come across the name Ostrowski in your search check my 'tree' in genie.com to see if there are any matches. I know Ostrowski is a fairly popular/common name so it may take you a while to get somewhere. My family are from Misztale Tybory, Wysokie Mazowieckie.

My tree: geni.com/share?t=6000000016202876578
when it opens click the word "Tree" on top of page to open large view.

Genealogy / Searching for maternal family Gurkowski / Gorkowski [7]

Thank you jwdupon, I have done research on my great grandmother Marianna Gorecka and found her parents to be Mateusz Gorecki and Jozefa Szczygielska.
There is a very slim possibility I may be wrong, but I did cross reference with a few other records to come to my conclusion.

The dates you have are very close and two of their children are noted, which adds to the possibility of being correct. My great grandparents had five children and Aleksandra is not one of them, (that I know of).

One daughter,Stanislawa, married Franciszek Malicki. Franciszek Malicki was noted with son Ignaci Gorkowski on Jan Gorkowski death notice.
Where did you find this information? Can I search further to see if there is a connection?
Thank you for your help

Genealogy / Searching for paternal family Wyszynski [5]

Thanks Polonius3, Do you know where I can find these 5 coats of arms and when they were issued? Most recent one?

Thanks.

Merged: searching for siblings of Piotr Wyszynski. (grandfather of Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski)

I wish to refresh my search for a connection to Cardinal Wyszynski. My grandfather Aleksander Wyszynski claimed he was a cousin but I can not find a connection because I can not find information on my great grandfather. My great grandfather Jan Wyszynski was born between 1842 and 1844 according to some records we have. I have no other information on Jan's birth place or family.

Since Cardinals grandfather was born 1851 it could be possible that he is Jan's brother but I can not find any information on Piotr.
Does anyone have any information on Piotr Wyszynski, grandfather of Stefan Cardinal Wyszynski?
Thank you

History / Is there a list of those in the Polish Army during WWII? [192]

In 1878/1879 Poland, was the military a Russian army under Alexander II or a Polish national army?
I am trying to find some information on my great grandfather Jan Wyszynski. All Polish military records I found are after 1900.
When my grandfather was born in Nov. 1879, according to his birth record, Jan Wyszynski was 34 years old on temporary leave from army. No indication which army or what job or rank. I have been unable to find any other information on his life.

Genealogy / the name Markiewicz / also Szczygielski [17]

Merged: Information on Markiewicz and Szczygielski families

I am searching for any information on my gg grandmother Jozefa Szczygielska,(cr.1820), daughter of Mutsorzkow Szczygielski and Helena Markiewicz,(cr.1790-1805+/-).
All I know is that Jozefa and her husband, (my gg grandfather Mateusz Gorecki), were married and lived in Leszno Poland 1841, where they raised their family.

Their marriage notice stated her parents names and that is as far back as I can find.
Anyone with information on these names Please contact me.

Thanks.

Genealogy / Buczenski, Ostrowski and Matysiak. Discovering village/parish family came from? [6]

Liz, I started my family search from my closest relative and went backward. While I am stumped at both of my great grandfathers, I did find so much on other members of the family in Poland back to 1785 in some cases.

If your family went to St. Paul, there must be a public 'Hall of Records' as in NYC, Philadelphia, etc. You can either go in person (quickest results- but expect to stay an entire day), or request by mail which takes 4 to 6 weeks (in NY) to get the documents.

I have found marriage, death certificates with parents names on them, declarations of intent, petition for citizenship/naturalization which has town/village last resided.
There are so many documents that can be found at these public records buildings.
Also, search the Ellis Island archives for names, dates of arrival
You can expect to find many misspellings of names because many documents were completed by Americans who could not understand Polish and wrote what they thought they heard. Once you start you'll get the hang of it and learn what it all means.

Good Luck.

Genealogy / Searching for maternal family Gurkowski / Gorkowski [7]

Searching for family great grandfather Jan Gurkowski, born Sułocin, Sierpc. cr.1840
I know his father is Andrzeja Gurkowski and mother is Marianna, but do not know her family name.
I am in search for his mothers family name, his brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts. Any information I can get.

Jan married Maryanna Gorecka (daughter of Mateusz and Jozefa Szczygielska). They resided in Dobrzenice Wielkie parafia Mochowo and had children there.
Jan and Marianna also resided in Przeradzu Wielkim at marriage of son Ignaci to Mariannę Laskowską in 1900, and until death of Jan in 1908.

Thanks.

Genealogy / Searching for paternal family Wyszynski [5]

I have exhausted all USA records for my genealogy search. I am stuck at my great grandfather Jan Wyszynski. I can not find his parents, brothers, sisters, and I do not know if he was married more than once.

When my grandfather Aleksander was born in 1879, (WYSZYŃSKI Aleksander, syn Jana lat 35 i Agnieszki Gołaszewskiej lat 35, urodzony w Misztalach Tyborach 27.11.1879, 58/1879.),
and my grandfathers brother Stanislaw in 1878,(WYSZYŃSKI Stanisław, syn Jana lat 34 i Agnieszki Gołaszewskiej lat 45, urodzony w Misztalach Tyborach 19.09.1878, 54/1878),
the parish record states that Jan was on temporary leave from serving the army. ( 58] Dn. 15/27.11.1879r. Jan Wyszyński czasowo urlopowany żołnież lat 35 zam. Misztale, w obecności Juliana Dębnickiego lat 30 i Jana Krajewskiego lat 40 obaj z Misztal wpisuje syna Aleksandra urodzonego dziś z żony jego Agnieszki z Gołaszewskich lat 35. Chrzestni Julian i Paulina Dębniccy. Ksiądz P. Supiński.)

I notice the age given for Jan on these births is consistent but age for Agnieszka is way off. According to age 20 at marriage to Uszynski in 1859 and birth records of her first children with Uszynski we estimate her age to be 39/40 years old by 1879. (Birth about 1839 +).

My cousin lives in Wysokie Mazowieckie and he searched local parish records to find this information. He also found that Jan Wyszynski's wife Agnieszka Gołaszewska, (my g-grandmother) was married previous to Jozef Uszynski. This record was found but a record for marriage of Jan Wyszynski and Agnieszka was not found yet. I need this document to find his parents names to go forward.

I have heard in the family that his birth could be Augustow, Ostrow Mazowieckie, Jabłonka, and even Wysocki Mazowieckie. So where do I start?

If I can get a marriage record from Misztalach Tyborach I think that will help.

Thanks.
