classic: chicken fried chicken (kotlet z kurczaka), mushed potatoes with dill and mizeria...

Yum. :) Haven't had mashed potatoes for ages. I'm making kotlet this week so I think I'll have some mash with them. :)

Justysia's kurczaczek :)

That's what I made today...with garlic gravy. :)

I do too...now. I didn't before but then about a year or more ago I realised I was eating a load of crap so I started to teach myself a few things. Now it's a favourite past-time...only wish I had more time to do it. ;)

Agree. Well done Polson, I don't know how you manage it but you're a star for all your prediction calculation work :)

Admin and I are happy to accept 2nd and 3rd place (he's 3rd of course ;)

Nice year round up szarlotka :) You missed Baby Spice though... :)

I'd like to add a Best PF Omnibus Reporter subsection to the awards with nominees of szarlotka, Vincent and miranda. It goes to szarlotka this year of course with many thanks. Keep it up! :)

UK, Ireland / Hand washing at public toilets in the UK [75]

I tend to wash my hands in copious amounts of soap and hot water,

So do I. I wouldn't have it otherwise. Part of my job involves Infection Control and it's er...interesting what kinds of bugs live in these public toilets. Wetting the fingertips does absolutely nothing, they'd be as well not washing their hands (considering they probably picked up even more germs by simply touching the tap).

I do know what you mean though Magdalena, I see it often too and mothers telling their kids just to "rinse their hands under the water". I'm not sure why people don't wash their hands properly. Sometimes the handsoap in these toilets can be a bit harsh on skin but it's better than not washing at all.

use the antiseptic hand wash that I tend to have with me. This avoids MRSA too.

A good alternative back-up but shouldn't replace handwashing overall. Battles MRSA but doesn't touch C-Diff. Luckily you shouldn't find too much C-Diff lurking in public toilets. :)

OMG, something else to worry about. All in all I'm amazed I'm still alive.

Yeah you're doing well so far - keep it up. :)

And sometimes the soap dispensers look that disgusting I would rather just rinse and spray some anitceptic spray on my hands.

You're right. Though it's better to just use the gel/spray without using the water at all because you need to touch the tap to turn it on and then off (so when you're turning it off with clean hands you're picking up the germs you put there when your hands were dirty). Bar soap is disgusting in public places and if you see it there don't use it - believe it or not it harbours a lot of bugs!

However, people can become obsessed with bugs and superbugs but the superbugs are mostly present in hospitals/nursing homes so don't panic if you can't wash your hands in a public toilet as thoroughly as you would at home or at work.

UK, Ireland / Polish Festivals/Exhibitions/Events in UK [91]

Finally! There is an event planned for next April in Edinburgh (Leith really). Could be fun. :)

A MASSIVE three-day festival of Polish culture, the first of its kind in Edinburgh, is to be held next year.
The Polish Cultural Festival will feature a Polish Medieval Market, as well as music, theatre, exhibitions and film screenings.

The event is expected to attract more than 10,000 people, and organisers said they hope it will appeal to local Scots as well as ex-pat Poles living in the Capital.

Organisers said they wanted to create "a lip-smacking feast of Polish culture" for the whole city to enjoy, with the aim of helping bring the Polish and Scottish communities closer together.

Festival is in Pole position to cross the cultural divide

Well yeah :) . I had read it in the paper the other day and then forgot about it until I heard it on Orła. :) I think this is one I should manage to get to. :)

Beware flying axes and occasional hails of arrows.

But no pirates. Disappointing. :( hehe

Yeah, and you won't have any problems with finding me :)

I'll find you, don't worry. ;)

Actually, I might be up for that!

Finding Bart? Oh you mean the festival. Well, if you're coming up, let me know! :) I'll be keeping my eye on the website for further updates. :)

Plus I just noticed this at the Traverse Theatre on 5th Nov. So I'm going to see about going along to that if I can. :)

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

It's the old story. If they owe you money you'll wait forever and a day for it, if you owe them money however, they want it pronto. I had a bill of £9 once which I forgot to pay. The first letter I received from them about it was a notification that their lawyers had been notified and they intended to take me to court. Scare tactics. I called them up and told them they'd given me the best laugh of that week. I told them to add it onto the next bill, which they did and it was duly paid.

A few months later and the same company over charged me and then owed me something like £20. I told them and they said they would recredit my account...waited and waited and nothing. So I sent them a letter saying my lawyer had been notified and I intended to take them to court...never got a reply but I did get that £20 credited to my account within days.

PD has been cooking again. :) This time placki ziemniaczane. :) They were delicious (even if I do say so myself ;) It's probably not traditional ingrediants but close enough. :)

  • Sizzling! :)

  • Yummy. :)

Well, silly me, I had no sour cream so I just used some mayo instead. It was fine though. :) Sour cream next time though.

Or Ketchup?

I thought about that but then mayo seemed better. :)

It didn't seem like a ketchup sort of a dish. So I went with the mayo. :)

lol - yes that too!

You'll need oil for frying. Those ingredients make for 6 potato cakes. :)

Actually, you're right in a way, I broke my grater tonight making them so must buy a new one! ;)

grated on the smallest holes

I've seen them made with the potato grated either through the small holes and the large holes. It's irrelevant now anyway...since my grater broke I only have the bit with the big holes. So until I buy a new one everything gets grated that way. ;)

I made gołąbki today but I won't be posting a picture. I used a savoy cabbage today for a change and it worked out OK, they didn't wrap as well as with white cabbage leaves but with a bit of persuasion they stayed wrapped and were tasty! :)

Lol, apologies to my students. ;) There is a reasonable excuse, I bought a new camera today (to get even better pictures!) but the rechargable battery was needing charged. Next time I'll take loads... ;)

I hope this class picks up next week again, with or without a new grater :)

Maybe next week, maybe in 2 weeks. Not sure. If there's anything next week it won't be something difficult.

While we're at it (and you're giving me a hard time ;) where's the pictures of all the delicious dishes you've cooked? ;)

Well, begin! I had only tasted Polish food, never cooked it until recently. Daunting task to cook gołąbki for the first time and as you see by the first pictures I posted, they were OK but not great. It just takes time.

Seems you're gentler with a grater than me anyway. :)

I look forward to your pictures of kotlet schabowy. :)
