Life / Exam for Drivers License in Poland; English? [99]

Merged:

English Preparation Materials for Driver's License Theory Exam?

I am going to take the theory test to get a Polish driver's license in a few weeks. I know that there is a book in English to help you prepare. Does anyone have a link to where I can find it? Thank you!

Travel / Best/Cheap Transportation from Gdansk to Vilnius? [9]

I am going to Vilnius next week from Gdansk, but I am finding almost nothing transportation-wise, other than taking a bus at night (which I am guessing does not have beds). Other than driving myself, is there reasonable option that someone knows about? Thanks.

Law / Does anyone know the process to get long-term residency (stała karta pobytu)? [9]

So they would potentially give me a long-term residency card that in theory lasts forever, but every 10 years it needs to be renewed. Does that mean that I would have to do the whole process I am currently doing new when I apply for residency (all of the documents) every ten years?

USA, Canada / Totalization Agreement Between the U.S. & Poland [3]

Yes, but I am primarily asking about Social Security. Here's a link talking about the Totalization Agreement: poland.usembassy.gov/totagreement.html

USA, Canada / Totalization Agreement Between the U.S. & Poland [3]

Does anyone know more about this thing they call the totalization agreement, which came into effect in March 1, 2009?

From what I understand, if an American lives in Poland longer than 5 consecutive years without being in the States for 6 straight months, the American citizen would lose his Social Security in America.

So I have already heard of Americans going back to the States for 6 months so they can remain eligible for Social Security, and then they will return to Poland.

Part of me thinks this is too outlandish to be true. But does anyone have any further knowledge/experience with this?

Life / "Protestant" or Non Catholic communities in Poland [18]

I am not sure if you are still looking for a church in Gdansk, but there is an Evangelical, bilingual (Polish/English) church called Gospel Church that meets on Sunday evenings at 18:00. They use the Baptist Church's building. Here's more info:

Law / New Law Concerning Dual Citizenship in Poland [13]

Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I read this the other day in the news:

"The other day Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski signed a law allowing dual nationality. According to the new legislation, an applicant for a Polish passport need not refuse the previous citizenship, as was required before. Now a voivode (governor of a province in Poland) can grant Polish nationality to a person who has resided in the country no less than three years (according to a permanent residence permit), has regular income, and knows the Polish language."

I am an American and have lived in Poland almost 3 years, and this would be a way better option than going through the Karta Pobytu process again, since I would have citizenship for life. I have searched this forum and have seen nothing about this.

Does anyone know more about this? Or does anyone know of a link online where I can begin this process?

Thanks,
