Language / Birthday wishes / jokes in Polish? [9]

Hi Des Essientes, I like that idea, I think it would go down well. Have you noticed the acceptance of mortality seems to be more relaxed amongst Poles. It's not always such popular topic in Britain

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4501]

Merged: surname meanings

Cześć
Could anyone tell me the meaning of the surname Olczyk.
I've heard a few explanations, one was that there's a small town in Poland called Ol, so the meaning could be literally son of Ol and was possibly a name given to someone who did something notable for that place. Can anyone elaborate on the meaning of this name.

Many thanks
Dziękuję

Thanks Polonius, I'm not sure if I'm translating that well, how would you translate it in English. (I've tried it in google translate again but it doesn't make complete sense, as usual)

Language / Birthday wishes / jokes in Polish? [9]

Cześć my grandads birthdays coming up. He's Polish and in his 90's. He's always very impressed when I write his birthday card out in Polish.

The only problem is I've been writing the same basic thing for the past few years.
Does anyone have any different /creative ways of saying happy birthday and well wishing in Polish.
(Is there a Polish moonpig)
(are there any good Polish birthday jokes)
Many Thanks
Dziękuję

Language / Usage of emergency situations in Polish [3]

Hi could someone help me out please.
I'm trying to learn a bit more Polish to supplement some of the modules I'm doing in my firetraining.
I can speak a few words and understand some of the pronunciations and spellings

How would you ask "How many people are in the house?"

I put this in google translator and got "ilu ludzi jest w domu"

Is there anybody trapped in the house? I got -
Czy jest ktoś uwięziony w domu
is this right

can anyone elaborate on these

Many thanks
Dziękuję
