Travel / Trying to plan trip to Poland for 2012 [10]

Hello! My wife and I are wanting to take a trip to Poland in summer 2012, and the local travel agencies are not helpful. We were planning to go sometime during June or July, are these good times of the year to visit? Neither of us speak Polish, will it be difficult to travel Poland with us only speaking English? What are some of the best cities to visit or stay? Thank you!

Genealogy / THE MEANING AND RESEARCH OF MY POLISH LAST NAME, SURNAME? [4501]

My last name is Czugala. My dad told me since I was young that is pronounced: Chew-ga-lah . Does anyone know of a meaning?
We know of no other Czugala's in the USA, but in the past couple years I have found a couple on Facebook that live in Poland.

Genealogy / Czugala / Bukowski. Father's side of family is Polish. [12]

Hello, I would be most grateful if anyone could help trace my family history. My dad's side of the family is 100% polish. When I grew up my parents told me that my grandparents were both prisoners during WWII. My Dad and his sister were born shortly after the war and then they all moved to USA in 1952. When I went to Washington D.C. this summer I could not find any records of my grandparents being prisoners. I have no idea if I have any distant relatives in Poland or anywhere else in the world. I have a very rare last name in the USA, I have never found someone with the same last name. My last name is Czugala. My Grandmother's last name was Bukowski. My Grandfather did have a brother, but my Dad does not know anything about him. My Dad also does not know of anything about my Grandmother's side of family. If anyone could help find any information (family tree, WWII history), I would be so thankful.

Thank you!

I only see 2 Czugala surnames listed in the Social Security Death Index. Pete and Helena

Your grandfather's surname is in the database here:

Yes, Piotr & Helena were my grandparents.

The straty.pl website is amazing, I am going to write down as much info as possible.

Piotr had a sister Anna (that we know of), and his parents were Jan & Teresa (unsure of surname). Helena's surname before marriage was Bukowski, and had brothers Joseph and Merion. Her parents were Jan & Anna (unsure of surname).

I was searching for more information today for my family history. An image came up from this website: archiwum.zam.pl/displayimage.php?album=9&pid=2513#top_display_media

If I am reading the translation correctly, it was that Piotr CzugaƂa is the 3rd from the left. Is that correct or is the translation different?
