USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

As a Polish American I am glad you post here.

In my opinion, you give an articulate and balanced view on Poland.

Thank you . I highly appreciate your comments you post on PF .

why do you dress like an aging tart?

Where is it shown ? The dress I wear is in green , made of silk . Are silk green dresses a synonymus of tarts in UK ? Do you think I should wear my suits in subdued colours for parties . Are English women always so jealous and bitter when they see attractive woman . Polish women are not ashamed of their look . All business women I know wear such dresses for parties . Your comments about my look is unsubstantial .

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

I visited Canada many times and also I have lived there for some time , So I can say about Ontario , NF, BC .

Everybody has got his preferences , I have got mine too.

Nobody including me claims that Poland has got hot climate , we live in a moderate climate with mild summers and not so harsh winters . I don`t like hot climates .

May I make some short digression ? I would never choose a country to live by the type of a climate , for me there are other factors which are more important .

Child... hmm you're right... it's actually a brilliant way of describing someone who's aged with fvck-all grace :D

What an in depth conclusion.

You know Flagless I am still young , but I think if you claim something opposite it may indicate that you may suffer from SPS :D.

mentalhelp.net/poc/view_doc.php?type=doc&id=24026

Depression, hopelessness, cognitive rigidity, suicidality,.These men are angry. They are angry withthemselves (expressed as self hatred and depression), and with women.

Going back to the topic :
it needs to be insane to claim that dealing with -45 ᴼ C is easier than living in Poland with average temperatures circulating around -6 in the winter time. Additionally there is no wind chill factor here as it is in Canada with its vast plains stretching on the northern part of the entire country.

ec.gc.ca/meteo-weather/default.asp?lang=n&n=5FBF816A-1

Canadians are well aware of how much misery the wind chill can add to an already frigid day in winter. Knowing the wind chill is in fact an essential part of Canada's weather forecasts, as it provides everyone with the knowledge they need in order to stay safe in our worst weather.

For example, if the wind chill is -20 while the outside temperature is only -10°C, it means that your face will feel as cold as if it was a calm day (no wind) with a temperature of -20° C.

A recent survey indicated that 82 per cent of Canadians use wind chill information to decide how to dress before going outside in the winter. Many groups and organizations also use the wind chill index to regulate their outdoor activities.

In Toronto it is so cold in the wintertime that it is almost unbearable to take a walk in the park the wind chills the temperature more than 10 degrees down.

So if you compare our climate it is far better to live here than in Canada.

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

What the hell do you think it means?

I am waiting for your explanation, what you meant by „less organized„?

I reject your statement on the grounds that it actually doesn't make sense.

Oh dear , you may reject my statement at any time and then, you know , you may appeal LOL .

I will use a phrase "we Poles” whenever I feel I should use it and you will not change my mind by giving some mumbling about the concept of the state . Go on ,actually it is hilarious to read your opinion about jurisprudence in the aspect of theory of the state. Go on, feel free.

This subject needs more explanation , as I see that some posters have no idea about the subject and draw wrong conclusions .

It is very naive to cite a police statement about the causes of road accidents in Poland , because the police ( as you all know ) is financed from a budget ; the same financing takes place in the case of roads ( maintenance and construction ), so they ( the police ) have to obey certain policies and shed all the blame on drivers , but he truth is quite different and reveals the weakness of the state in this matter .

Poland has got the sixth largest road network system in EU , but the ratio of highways included in this system is very low , which means most of the traffic takes place on one lane roads in the same direction . That makes the most dangerous maneuver of overtaking even more dangerous as the driver has to move its car on the other side of the road with opposite traffic movement. This situation is the most dangerous and brings the most deadly consequences if this maneuver was taken wrongly.

Unless we have in Poland a vast highway system the problem of fatal accidents on Polish roads will be bigger and bigger. It is not a problem of Polish drivers but a problem to be solved by the state .

But blaming just drivers is very naïve and is only a proof of ignorance on this topic

Thanks to the very high skills of Polish drivers we have so little accidents on Polish roads.
The lasts stats conducted in 2009 show that we had only slightly over 56 000 road accidents , while Germany had 397 671 accidents . Don`t forget that their traffic is located mainly on safe highways while our on dangerous one lane roads .

no. more bad drivers, more possible accidents, but also more deaths at the scene. your figures mean nothing.

My answer is whatever suits you the best . They are not my figures BTW .

Those who understand the numbers can have their opinion .

Polish drivers are very good drives in overall overview ,but sometimes we drive too daringly.

Some drivers drive after drinking which is too common and deplarable . But also pedestrians don`t obey the rules in quite few cases .

Also a major factor in road fatal accidents plays road density, ( Poland has got rather high indicator of km of roads per square km which makes the ranking less favorable in fatal accidents ,the simple calculation : more roads more possible accidents , but also longer way to hospital . This is important for Poland as Polands roads are mostly not highways so the time to reach a hospital is longer . Sometimes the distance form a certain accident place can be more than 100 km from a hospital . So the emergency crew has to make double this road to bring an injured person to the hospital and that time may be not enough to save someone`s life . An ambulances in Poland have to travel mostly on local roads not highways like it is in Germany so it makes a big difference .

data.worldbank.org/indicator/IS.ROD.DNST.K2

The indicator of read density for :
Poland is 123
for Germany 180
France 173
Norway - 29
Sweden - 128
USA - 68
Austria - 132
Greece - 88

Life / Automobiles vs. Pedestrians in Poland [77]

The graph shows that Poland has three times as many people per million inhabitants killed in road accidents than the UK (despite having few cars per million people).

Giving only death fatalities data doesn`t show the overall view, because it shows only that rescue forces can`t come in time to save lifes of those injured thanks to poverty and other factors which you can`t blame drivers for . Only data showing number of accidents is valuable if it comes to road safety . In Germany there are less fatal accidents for sure per capita , but it doesn`t depend on the skills of drivers or great caution of pedestrians . The density and the equipement of hospitals matters more in such cases .

Let's see what experts have to say about Poland, The Global Road Safety Partnership might be a good place to start:

What is it? A profit sharing corp?

My data comes form this : unece.org/about-unece.html
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was set up in 1947 by ECOSOC. It is one of five regional commissions of the United Nations.

UNECE's major aim is to promote pan-European economic integration. To do so, it brings together 56 countries located in the European Union, non-EU Western and Eastern Europe, South-East Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and North America. All these countries dialogue and cooperate under the aegis of UNECE on economic and sectoral issues. . However, all interested United Nations member States may participate in the work of UNECE. Over 70 international professional organizations and other non-governmental organizations take part in UNECE activities.

Whose source is more reliable ?

Does Poland have as many cars per 1,000 people as the UK or Germany?

Taking your reasoning into account , does Poland have the same income per capita as the United Kingdom or Germany. No.

So, your reasoning does not allow us at all to compare Poland against Germany and the UK, because it is not possible. In Poland this net income per capita is 4 times smaller than in those countries.

So you have to divide the number of cars per capita by 4 , then you will get a reasonable data to compare .

But this index of accidents is statistically positive for Poland . Considering that the incidents relate to drivers and pedestrians, therefore the number of cars is not only one important factor , because in these cases also pedestrians attended. This indicator for Germany is four times worse than for Poland .

I dont know why those above links don`t work , there are other links from that webpage , you can easily find proper data :
w3.unece.org/pxweb/database/STAT/40-TRTRANS/01-TRACCIDENTS/?lis ttype=detail&sortBy=filename&sort_order=asc

w3.unece.org/pxweb/dialog/varval.asp?ma=01_TRAccprofile_r&path= ../database/STAT/40-TRTRANS/01-TRACCIDENTS/&lang=1&ti=Number+of+i njury +accidents%2C+killed+and+injured

First click the space of -"number of injured in road accidents ", then chose a country and the latest year which is 2009 , it is easy to find out .

I do not believe that for a single second.

You don`t have to , I know you are too stupid to comprehend .

Nothing is so frustrating as taking common views from nowhere ( in Polish z "du*y ) like

Poland is the number 1 most dangerous.

But maybe some of you just go first through statistics which say something different .

First note that nb of persons injured in compared countries is as follows :

w3.unece.org/pxweb/dialog/Saveshow.asp?lang=1
w3.unece.org/pxweb/dialog/Saveshow.asp?lang=1
w3.unece.org/pxweb/dialog/Saveshow.asp?lang=1

then you calculate that data per capita where population is as follows : Poland -38 min , Germany 82 mln , UK 60 mln, France 63 )

Then you calculate the ratio per 1000 people and you have a stats :

number of persons injured in road accidents per 1000 people is in compared countries :

Poland - 1.47
France - 1.44
UK -3.82
Germany - 4.84

So , Poland is not as dangerous as Germany or UK , it is as safe as France .

So , don`t make comments like this - " Poland is s**t ,uncivilized, undeveloped , etc. because we know it is or it should be , because we know better ".

Michnik runs very anti-Polish and full of nonsense newspaper . There are few people in Poland who don`t know this fact.

Love / What do Asian boys think about Polish girls? :) (and vice versa) [150]

in recent years lots of white males have been marrying Asian and other non western women. The reason? Men don't trust the constantly whining western women who act 'privileged'.

No , the reasons are very different , I guess their chances to have SPWF are null . The vast majority of those white guys who get married to Asian women are middle aged, divorced bums who had no other options . This is a very common picture in Sweden where you can see them in such a company after visiting Thailand they return with new child who turns to be a new wife , haha. They ussually get married to 20-30 years younger women so I call them simply pedophilies .

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

intelligence = genetic endowment (whether realized in an educational setting or not)

In Polish I am sure in English too intelligence could be inherited through genes or acqured through knowledge and experience . You can broaden your intelligence through learning even if you were not endowed with a high level of it by your genes. This means that traning and stimulating of your brain cells through learning may influence your intelligence .

If it was only inherited we would still be stuck in caves .

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

This word has just one translation –“ Intelligence” derives from Latin –“ intelligentia “.

But there are at least 6 meanings in Polish .
1 It is the ability of comprehension , related words in English - sharpness, smartness, brightness.
2 Sensory Intelligence - the ability to perceiving, analysing and optimal (or near-optimal) adaptation to the changing environment.
3 Intelligence-the name of a layer of a social class , in Poland formed from 2. half of the 19TH century
4 Intelligence-type of a specific mental ability

types of intelligence : cognitive ,verbal, emotional, social, creative

5 artificial intelligence
6 IQ

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

different kinds of intelligences

You confuse the simple translation of this word with its definition. But these are two different things. As in many languages there are a lot of definitions of that word. But definition of the word as you know it is not the same as its translation. There is not so much of a problem with only translation, because most of the known words in English were already translated into Polish. So your conception of inability to find a specific word in another language is false.

In any language you may find cognate words .That’s why, if you check any dictionary you always find for one sought word few words given as a translation , but that doesn`t mean that there is no proper word for exact meaning . If you are bilingual you will always know the slight difference between those cognate words. English teachers in Poland are misled by the lack of verbal variety in student`s vocabulary so they are mistakenly mislead that in Polish there are no exact and specific words for its English equivalents. But this is just a common misconception due to laziness of students or teachers who rely on someone’s translation instead of searching a dictionary. As an example of that laziness I can give an example of some English teacher who translated for students in a classroom a name of sequoia as "czerwone drzewo”, yes really.

While this name has just one meaning in Polish which is “sekwoja” , but in English one translation comes from Latin, but there is another common name “ a redwood “. In Polish it has only one name derived from Latin. When this teacher found in an English text a name “ a redwood” she translated as it sounded “ czerwone drzewo “ , not even thinking that there is no such name of a tree in Polish language as “czerwone drzewo “ . But what the heck, who cares , that she was talking nonsense . The school headmaster had no idea about her incompetence. She was Polish, but not educated in a public university but some private school ( everybody knows the level of private educational institutions ) and presented some papers from Canada . So for that headmaster such Canadian papers were the best pass for such post ( private primary school English teacher). This is just an example of origins of some misconceptions about these two languages. I am not saying that all Polish or English teachers are lazy and don`t look into dictionaries .

But please don`t sell here some theory of inability of translation from Polish into English in a very precise way .

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

"Mądry" for me refers to me to education.

Not exactly .
Wisdom in the narrowest sense is the ability to make decisions, which in the long term yield positive results. In another words we can say that wisdom is the ability to use knowledge and experience.

This means that some people who are above average intelligent not always possess the ability to make dicisions that yeld in positive results.

Language / Difference between wise and intelligent in Polish [30]

In Polish language the concept of intelligence generally means a set of mental abilities which allows to use resources of your knowledge - resulting from the knowledge learned,

theory and experience - in solving problems.

If it comes to wisdom maybe it would be the best to say that it is a congenital or acquired ability, which allows people to manage their lives well and helps them to secure prosperity, success and even happiness.

Love / Polish men calling polish girl for dating englishman [80]

She's just a typical Polish female and rating men the way she does comes naturally to her, that's all.

What do you know about me , nothing .

Why do some of you bring personal stuff ? I don`t do that only if I am provoked .

What I wrote earlier is not my personal point of view .

I was referring to some female or male behaviour which is demonstrated abroad . Both very bad .

I am not approving any of such conducts.

But you don`t see anything wrong about men bullying a woman dating a foreigner .

I see it as just a typical behaviour of some very unconfident men . I am talking about the thread`s topic here , not you .

-You will never admit you're wrong
-You will ...

It is all but a view of one frustrated Jew . Poland is a country constantly invaded by others because of our rich land which everyone envied. But we have never lost any war fighting one on one. Others had to connect to beat us, usually three countries had to combine their forces to defeat us. First, the knights and later the military were elites in Poland, which no other could be equal to our .

We praise our country because we have a reason, so don`t waste your time and effort to complain. Go to the Jewish forum and there praise your countrymen`s achievements.

Love / Polish men calling polish girl for dating englishman [80]

I don't think you quite understood the message I was trying to convey.

You understood me perfectly and I did understand you also.

I was referring to typical male approach you present that you focused on female deplorable behavior instead of criticizing both sexes’ behaviors.

Polish (and other Eastern European) women very often offer little to no support to their men during emigration.

You generalize so much. Some are like that, but predominant majority acts like most reasonable people would do. You described a characteristic of certain women who make up 5 % of Polish female population. I guess that other nationalities you mentioned act like that within given numbers.

With few exceptions women are still not considered family providers, because of salary differences, which still exist in favor of men. That`s why, women still , instead of making money, tend to take care of children, house etc. rather than men. What I stated earlier is true and reflects the reality.

Yes, southern if a man emigrates to another country with the intention of permanent residence he becomes an immigrant and the status of immigrant is well known to everybody

Little wonder then that Eastern European women in many countries are often seen as materialistic slags who will **** at the drop of a hat once they see the money

Now ,to maintain parity , can you please name " an old or middle aged Western European man" who leaves his wife and children once he sees long legged beauty willing to become his sex or lifetime partner ? A p**ck or is there a specific name in English language ? Will you start complaining about something else than Eastern European females?

Love / Polish men calling polish girl for dating englishman [80]

It is all very simple and doesn`t require much effort to find the answer to the agonizing problem the OP has been confronted with.

It all comes down to the problem of being an immigrant. Women generally are in a better position, because this is not their responsibility to become a family provider, so immigrant woman can be as good as the local woman because the emphasis is put on her look rather than the money. Men tend to choose women, who are beautiful rather than rich which is quite opposite to women who rather tend to search for a family provider. So , the problem of immigrant men vs. local men comes from few factors that they usually hold worse jobs, earn less money and in prevail cases are not wealthy.

So it is rare that a woman chooses for her husband or partner an immigrant, especially from a poorer country which is a case of Poland vs. Great Britain.

And an estate that belongs to a spoldzenie is social housing.

You are totally wrong !

Spółdzielnia mieszkaniowa - so called "co- op" housing is not a part of social housing in Poland . The price for a flat sold by this type of developement is a market value price .The difference is that a builder / investor builds it without making any profit . This type of housing project was popular during PRL times . These days co- ops are not established any more . But still they exist just to maintain the flats resources of existing dwellers .

To me social housings mean buildings projects for poorer people who can`t afford to buy a dwellings for market value prices .

what does it mean in English ? -" A council estates/housing project " .

What I presume is that a council / social housing is a type of project called in Polish - mieszkania komunalne , what exactly was said in my previous post nb 22 . So municipal or state owned housing projects comprise of 5 % of total housing market what is really unmeaningful fraction . What I said earlier is very much valid .

Work / Poland salary and compensation package - What is included? [28]

The percentage of people in Poland living on council estates/housing projects is huge.

No , it is not !

According to data issued by GUS ( Polish Statistical Office )

usable floor space of
dwellings in square meters

total space 938 475 000 m²

ownership of

47 973 000 Gminas (municipal)
2 788 000 State Treasury

Which means a ratio of 20 m² to 1 m ² , so it means that only a small fraction of space is owned by municipal or state bodies.
