I am reading "Are we there yet" by Morris Berman now. It is absolutely brilliant and very insightful thing on the American's way of life. I would put it in the same line as Democracy in America by Alex de Tocqueville. Highly recommend both to read.

Hustling is what America has always been about...Once again, this is evidence of a pure democracy: nobodies elect nobodies to office, and then everyone wonders what went wrong."
