News / Polish Students Striking in Lithuania [80]

Why should lithuanian kids be taught in Polish in Lithuania?

because Poles were there first?they live there for centuries

And I doubt that names such as "JADVYGA" would ever be allowed to be registered in Poland when there's a Polish variant.

foreigners(also minority) can name their children whatever they like

think about Poland's policies towards minorities, especially german minority.

oh please do tell how they are discriminated?because according to my informations, they have more rights then Poland was obliged to give them

That newspaper is funded by awpl, so any info regarding lithuanian-polish relations or education is not shown in true colors. It is like looking in some polish kresy website. Find some real evidence.

dont talk who funded the newspaper, just say when it is wrong, if it is

History / Has Poland ever participated in any big wars (except WW2)? [73]

Why negotiate what had already been agreed. And Pilsudski's word counted for very little (see for example the sham mutiny which he ordered).

agreement You are talking about was signed by local authorities, was temporary and it was agreed that final arrangements would be made by the countires goverments. As for Piłsudski I dont really know what to tell You, are You saying that Czechoslovakia should have grabed any land thay felt like because they didnt like cooperating with legitimate Polish goverment?and dont even get me started about Wilno..

No, it was to demand that Poland ceased the election planning.

so in Your opinion it is allright to invade a country and not to seek agreements?werent You saying sth exact opposite just few post ago?

The one which Poland had already breached on 6 November.

how?

Perhaps negotiating a settlement would have worked? Although Poland would then have had to live up to the commitments it made in the settlement agreements and experience shows that Poland was pretty terrible at doing that between 1918 and 1939.

see how litlle or nothing You know? Piłsudski send a note to Masaryk asking for negotiations, the response on Czech side was- occupation of Spis and Orawa, than attack on Śląsk Cieszyński, which was a breach of 5 November agreement

2 February agreement - again breach on Czechoslovakian side( for example attack between 21-24 February)
also add to this killing of Polish POW

Do you have any links to anything which in any way supports any of that? Or did you just pluck it from the air?

this is pretty common knowledge, why would Poland agree on not taking the plabiscite if it wasnt for this???,doesnt make any sense. Read a book on the topic, if You speak Polish I can give You few titles

PWEI

So Poland acting contrary to her treaty obligations and refusing all requests to act in keeping with them should have resulted in what? Poland was told to stop doing something she had promised not to do or face specified consequences: Poland chose to face the consequences.

what???are You aware of the obligations that Czechoslovakia didnt fulfill?Poland agreed to give Zaolzie(were majority was Polish)so Czechoslovakia would help in oncoming war by for example letting the trains with bullets and guns through its territory, of course it didnt happen- Poalnd acted accordingly

Poles too, unfortunately. If Poland had approached 1919 onwards as a reason to create as many allies as possible in this part of the world.

what would you do delphiadomine?give zaolzie(important for Czechoslovakia only for economical reasons) to Czechoslovakia?Greater Poland and Silesia to Germany, and rest should be split between Russia and Ukraine?seriously tell me, how would You dissolve all these conflicts?

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Shops are the best places to witness silent hostility (a nice paradox).

Yes, customer service is very different in Poland comparing to many Western countries. You were accustomed to a British way of doing things so it is hard for You to digest a Poilsh way. However it works both ways- about 2 weeks ago I was in Kraków, I went to Rossmann near the Rynek, and there was a shopkeeper whoes responsibility was to stay by the door and say goodbye, have a nice day etc. For me it was nonsense. I like to go to my shop take what I need and dont smile around to the people I dont know, it is fake and I dont need this kind of "friendliness".The attitude towards strangers in Poland is much more reserved. I am happy with this silent customer service, and I dont have any problem in the shops with rudeness, it is the goverment offices were the change of attitudes is sometimes were needed but that is a different story

it wasn`t Poles who did it but russians, Germans, Czechs, Ukrainians etc. :):):)

of course it wasnt:]]]]]]!!

UK, Ireland / Why Poles will never belong in England [283]

Without the EU, Poland would be nothing

sure, before 2004 Poland was nothing, EU contrubites to the development of Poland, but it is not the question of to be or not to be

If you believe everyone on here, Polish women do just that - marry (or, more accurately, get pregnant by :p ) Nigerians and quite a few other third-worlders as well! So which is it? :)

You are a mean and ridiculous little fellow, arent You?

Love / How do Polish guys feel about having an older girlfriend/wife? [30]

unfortunately it is more accepted when a man is older as it is all over the world. But I dont think You should have a problem with the age difference, he is an adult and 8 years is not that much. soooo all the best!!

History / Warsaw Rising 1944 - National Disaster or Triumph of Spirit ? [395]

I remember when uprising took place, and a flag in Warsaw to remember that would be a nice thing to do, however we shouldnt than forget about Śląskie uprisings, Lwów and then Pcim Dolny, not every single event can be commemorated in Warsaw!!This is why these events are remembered in the place they happened

History / Warsaw Rising 1944 - National Disaster or Triumph of Spirit ? [395]

I had to ask several people to find out what the reason was for them flying in Poznan - most people simply didn't know - because they have their own uprising here.

and that says what?that people in Poznan are ignorant?

Poznan celebrates Wielkopolskie Uprising

I fail to see why one of the worst military decisions of the 20th century should be celebrated with flags flying and so on.

as I said before, in 1944 people didnt know what we know now(again look at the Paris uprising), but I do agree with You that it was a very bad decision. And I dont celebrate this decision, I am paying the respect to the lost city its people this microworld with its unique culture, dialects/slang that was destroyed by the German psychos, I am paying my respect and I remember about them, and I believe thay deserve that

UK, Ireland / Why Poles will never belong in England [283]

It quite clearly wasn't. In fact Poland was economically far behind her Western neighbours during that period.

after swedish deluge, about, 1655 the economy of Poland rapidly shrank but still was doing much better than during partiotions(the towns for example were developing the same they were in the West), there were also measures taken in beetween partitions to bust the economy- that would probably work if Poland would live any longer. The education was excellent, the cultural life was busting

in 1920 Poland however was the poorest country in Europe(I guess except for Spain), the towns, the villages, the roads were underdeveloped, high illiteracy, even szlachta(with some exceptions)was poor, the industry was almost non existent etc etc

I am sorry but I fail to see the advantages
P.S. if You are interested I can post You a data(in polish)about the economy of Poland since XIV century, or can try to translate for You some bits, or better maybe google translator- because I dont feel I would do it right

Or bill them for the roads, hospital, schools, universities that miraculously appeared during the years of British governance.

in partitioned Poland many hospitals, houses were erected, roads(not too many), but it doesnt change the fact that it was peanuts and that Poland was doing much better without this "help" before the partitions. And the same with British colonies much was built by Brits but again -peanuts comparing to the money that were sucked out of the country

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

Wrong. Hollywood raved about Poles untill the Soviet union got involved in the war in 41(blah blah"but 1939 they invaded Po......) and the left leaning script writers turned their praise on the plucky soviets, dropping the "plucky" Pole as a stock player....name a single hollywood movie rom the war years that paints Poles as bad people,go on.

honey, the II world war was happening till 1945 so what I said is relevant, I am aware that soviet propaganda has much to do about it, also antisemitic occurences in 1968 Poland fueled this bad depiction of Poles

Life / Stereotypes about Polish people being stupid? [281]

Let's solve this once and for all the Polish stupid stereotype comes from uneducated peasants going to the west. Who in the Polish countryside in the 20s had any education?

and what kind of people do You think were coming from other countries?exactly the same-poor, very often uneducated with the hopes of a better life. America is a mix of this kind of people. There were steereotypes(often nasty)about many nationalities, but the dumb Pollack jokes started in the 40s not sooner, and it did start with hollywood, even during the war Poles were pictured as bad characters

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [156]

Personally I am, for example, very biased against plastic 'Poles' who bring disgrace on Poland.

Harry let Poles decide who bring disgrace on their country, ok?if I llearned Polish history by Your posts I would view it as a bloodthirsty warmonger, who attack all its neighbour out of greed, but when they attack Poland it is fine. We fought communism just so we could install it few years later. Poland is a country whose people kill Jews for hobby(if there are no Jews around we can kill anybody else-we are not biased in that), we are never right and we did nothing right, and if We had any decency in ourselves we would commit a collective suicicde.

I might not agree with many thing they write but at least their intentions are good, and They want sth good for this country.

You being biased is exactly the problem, how can You have a conversation about history if You are biased?it is so easy to take some random sentence or incident out of context and then trying to prove by it Your truth, You are not looking at the whole picture but the one element that suits You, and thats why I see talking with You as fruitless

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [156]

There many more names. Let's not deny it. Leszek Miller, Jozef Oleksy, Krzysztof Janik, to name a few ad hoc.

yes, but WHY were they elected?because they were excommies?since 2002 we have the Communist Party of Poland however I dont see much support...

Furthermore, the left enjoyed plenty of support even before the war,

KPRP and later KPP was illegal under Polish law since 1919,

in 1922 communists under the name "Związek Proletariatu Miast i Wsi"- gained 2 mandates,
in 1928 - different communist parties-829416 votes,
in 1930 -286 612 votes

so tell me again what support are You talking about?

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [156]

Perhaps a little more than you.

want to elaborate?

The fact remains that the PRL enjoyed support within Poland . You are twisting facts to avoid an inconvenient truth.

Or being precise and accurate. Over 10% of Poles belonged to the PZPR, whether you like it or not.

please, do tell where I twisted the facts?I wouldnt call it support- people were born and raised in that system, if You talk to older generation they will tell You that noone believed there can be sth else, how would You see it?how people should oppose in Your opinion?if I lived during communism I might have joined the party out of pragmatism,it is like You said that North Korea's goverment enjoys a great support,

successor to the PZPR enjoys support today

successor o PZPR in what respect?

It was legal and recognised as such by the international community.

I dont want to open the pandora box and start talk about the Western betrayal, and the goverments that recognised, imposed Polish goverment. when the legal one was in London. Kaczorowski handed insignia of presidential power to Wałęsa?aint I right?if You call a goverment imposed by another country a legal one then it is Your problem

Harry please I am trying to ignore You and Your stupidity, I already explained that I dont see a sensein talking with You as You are biased and You are lying

History / So called "inconvenient parts" of Polish history - what do you think? [156]

before the war communism in Poland had much lower support(if any)than in Western Europe.
The elections in 1989 were won by almost 100% by solidarity, what are You talking about then?about Kwaśniewski?dont You see a difference between communists and his party? You are using words You dont understand my dear, and learn a little bit about the situation at that time why he was chosen, surely not because he was ex communist, how can You oversimplify things when it comes to history?

In your opinion

not, only to his opinion, it is according to the law-the communist goverment was not a legal one, but again pointing out the number of communist party members Your are oversimplifying things,

USA, Canada / Thinking about visiting America? Skip it or get molested and arrested for nothing. [79]

wrong, I've heard Polish jokes in just about any country I've been to. There would be no need for them if you guys at least try to keep morons like PiastPoland away from posting on public forums.

really?are You sure they werent coming out of your mouth?there is some nastiness in e.g. Germany or England, but in different area(car theft, job stealing), however the dumb polack jokes are the America's speciality. I think mentioning itby You is silly, when an American is the whipping boy for stupidity all over the world, mind that I dont agree with that, but it is just the way it is

Seriously, what else do they do?

in Poland they build roads. lol
