USA, Canada / Why are Polish Americans mocked in the American media? [226]

Since Pope John Paul II was the most famous Polish figure in American media for such a long time, he eradicated negative Polish stereotypes created by Archie Bunker from "All in the Family" with his, "Dumb Pollack" references almost singlehandedly.

Today American youth prolly supplant him with Marcin Gortat ( The Polish Hammer) as the most recognizable Pole.
His star keeps rising now that he's starting in Phoenix.

( Anytime the players and fans give you a nickname, you're good )

Even the former players on NBA TV ( Who criticizes everybody and everything) rave about him all the time.
They think going against Dwight Howard (who is a freak of nature) everyday in practice when he was with Orlando sped up his progress. He's one of the top 5 centers in the NBA at the moment.

Russians are forever portrayed as the bad guys.

This is true. Hollywood loves Russian gangsters and portraying Russian women as either spies or heartless gold diggers or both.
No one protests..so it will continue.

But..Italian Americans are up in arms about Jersey Shore. They're shooting season 3 in Italy. I don't think they will get a key to the city.

On a lighter note, the brainiac in the cartoon, Penguins of Madagascar is named Kowalski. Seems goofy but it does have a positive effect on next generation.

Life / As a black gay man (US) visiting Warsaw this summer, will I get beat up for nothing? [65]

Dude, you're a 6'2, 235lb ex-Football player! Black, white, or green. Who in their right mind would F with you?

Polish people are cool and mind their own business, nothing to worry about.

It's the drunk soccer hooligans on holiday, ( who always seem to travel in packs ) that you might encounter at 3am, that could be a problem...but that can happen in any city and to anyone.

Life / Getting pretty tired of the postal service here in Poland [58]

Arrived Abroad, April 01, 2011, 8:03 am, POLAND

The problem with international tracking is, one service handing off to another.
Their tracking systems are not compatible.
Companies like UPS charge more but they control the package all the way and you have 100% visibility.

USA, Canada / Travelling to Poland from the U.S. on a expired Passport [43]

I can bet they won't sell you a ticket

She can book the flight over the Internet ( Orbitz etc..)
The problem will occur at the counter.
The airline will ALWAYS have last say on who they will allow to board.
If anything is out of order, you're rolling the dice.

News / Poland's Lost Generation [172]

warszawski

will they transform the country?

It's already in motion. If you read through some of these threads, not only are they returning, but bringing their new mates with them. Americans, Irish, Brits, Islanders etc.

Eventually, all will be involved at some level.

all the goods positions are taken

This is where entrepreneurship comes into play. That "small %" you're referring to can have great impact.
