Real Estate / Poland's apartment prices continue to fall [1844]

Plenty of workers will be doing extra 'on-the-side', so to speak. There's a lot of nice new houses going up in even allegedly "poor" areas - where's the money coming from?

Thats true, but the majority of Poles haven't the skills to do that, a lot of money coming from the US has dried up, zakopane when times were good was built on the funds of poles working in the US. Things have changed. Mr D keep in mind that we are not talking about homes worth 1 to 2 m, but 3.5 million zlote.. Some Poles are very rich, most are struggling working long hours with increasing costs associated with living. I generally believe that real estate will be stable for a long time, although some properties will fall dramatically, by the way, how long does it take to sell a house in Poland, hmm I've seen home/apartments still not sold after 2 years.

There are plenty of reasons as to why it wont, a major one being a nice flat in the city will cost 6000 PLN / m2 bit if you drive a few miles outisde you'll get a house for 1500 PLN/m2

Depends if people have money, your theory does't hold in the US situation

there are still osiedle's being built where the houses are going for 3.5 million zlots ---and they are selling.

Don't doubt that there are homes selling for that price, but in the total picture these are very isolated situations, one just has to look at the average wages and you then draw your own conclusions.. The money coming in from the US/ireland and the UK is drying up.

I suggest that people still need to be cautious if wanting to invest in Polish real estate, there is no reason why property prices won't come down dramatically like in the US and Ireland etc.

Australia / HOW DO I MOVE FROM AUSTRALIA TO POLAND PERMANENTLY? PARENTS BOTH FROM POLAND [26]

Citizenship is passed from the parents, not the place of birth

I think after the fall of communism the government allowed people not born in Poland ie sibblings of polish citizens a right to apply for a polish passport....overwise a person could just remain in Poland without a polish passport or visa claiming to be Polish.

My daughter was born in Australia in 1984, me and my wife, both Polish / Australian Citizens, have come here in 1981.

I think you are trying to say that she has a right to have a Polish passport, she is not a Polish citizen as she cannot be both a Australian etc...If she wanted to apply for a polish passport she would need to have her australian birth certificate registered in poland (with all the apostolos crap) apply for a pesel and then apply for a passport....time up to 6 months... Could be done in Poland like Mr D suggested but she would then need a visa to stay in Poland...she would need her parents original Polish Birth Certificate.

Just a side line in relation to the future property market, there is a US chap by the name of Harry Dent....may be familiar to folks in the US...claims property market in Europe will well and truly crash in mid 2012...not trying to scare and do not agree just worth a read..

Work / Average monthly salary in Poland is around 1000 PLN (few hundred bucks). [387]

Are you saying that Poles are thieves?

You obviously haven't been around, your telling me that people who work behind the counter don't steal? Ask people who have a business or rather let people on this forum tell their stories! Stealing in the workplace are the legacies of the Communist era. Many ways to skin a cat Mr D , the 11th commandment holds ..thou shall not get caught.

Law / Why is US $ getting so high or Polish zloty falling? [60]

Zloty in the global picture is thought of as an exotic currency.

well hullo have I missed something. hum.. I don't think so, the history of the polish zlote is not a interesting one, not so long ago they were issuing I million zlote notes and they were worthless, The polish zlote has fluctuated during the year, lets remember that this time last year it was worth about the same 2.90zlote.. I wonder what my good friends Mr Delphiandomine, Avalon and Seamus think on this topic?

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

I didn't have time to read through the thread, just the original post by Avalon.Entirely agree ;-)

Moonlighting please understand that like somebody once said that there are known knowns; there are things we know we know.
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don't know we don't know....same applies to Poland we all know the negatives in Poland so why be upset, do we always need to give a ear bashing on these negatives. Lets be frank the author Avalon didn't do his home work when he came to Poland, he was motivated by self interest and greed.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

Avalon and Pawian, would you two darlings please kiss and make up. your comments to each other are turning the forum into something more akin to the school yard.

Highlights the fact that people in glass homes should'nt throw stones, both these people claim to know everything yet have very poor interpersonal skills, hence the motion that I am never wrong. Avalon shame on you for then trying to be critical of Polish people, in Rome you do what the Romans do and if you don't like it get out.

Life / The Blame Game (Have you ever noticed that a Polish person is never wrong!?) [205]

I thought you would understand

Sorry Avalon, but your comments smell of arrogance and blame, change yourself and not the system...lets talk turkey, your motivation for living in Poland was cheap housing and a way of life and now you realise that there are strings attached, firstly the system and practices will not change for another generation, you have to live within the system, secondly you a newcomer to the country and need to keep this in mind, Thirdly Poland is Poland a religious country which have different sets of standards and values.

I personally think that people like you and Seanus have a very positive impact in bringing change or giving options to people they come across in their lives. Work practices need to change, the practice of giving foreign companies tax breaks is only a band aid solution, although with the current global financial downturn I doubt if things will change for a long time with increased costs and stable wages. The person on old age pension receiving 900zl a month will need to change is lifestyle etc to survive

Life / Worlds most liveable cities (Krakow or Warsaw don't even hit the radar screens) [104]

plenty of restaurants

Sorry Monia, have to take you to task on this one, Restaurants in Warsaw apart from those in the Major Hotels ie Marriott, are pretty pathetic, unless your easily pleased by dining at McDonalds or Pizza Hut..also a big draw back is there are no major sporting events in Warsaw. I agree its pretty green and clean.

Law / Is running a business in Poland very profitable? [33]

I agree that clothes are super expensive in poland compared with other countries.

You mean to say designer clothes are more expensive compared to overseas... local and chinese imports are very cheap..

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

To be frank Seanus at some places they charge 2zl for doing no 1's, I saw one person walk out in disgust and just done his business in full view of people in the subway, I suspect he purchased a can of beer for what he saved...The lack of public toilets (no charge) is a disgrace in Poland.

USA, Canada / American...Polish Resident...Returning to the land of milk and honey [103]

I got to get the hell out of here because winter is coming and it sure won't get any better.I don't know where to go yet,so I will probably go to Poland for a couple of months just to chill and to decide what to do.

Grubas stop dreaming, and you think you will be able to find work in Poland, how are you going to pay your bills if your not working, or are you a guy on welfare???

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

I wouldn't say so young, but rather the 45+ generation seems to be exceptionally spiteful in my opinion

Can I test you for some examples??? The only way a person a person 25 was able to achieve something in the 90's was to work in the US.. Unless he was a old party member who purchased cheap state owned companies and land/building, usually for peanuts after the fall of communism.

in which case, a golden rule in Poland is only to deal with professionals and never get involved when there's more than one owner.

Absolutely correct.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Entry positions in Poland will range from 1500zl-2500zl net in a big city

Whilst I agree with what you are saying in this instance Mr D, You need to point out that in smaller cities it is much less, if you deduct cost of living then you be left with little change. The problem with having a small business in a small town say less than 40,000 people is that you have little turnover and if you are doing well somebody else will open shop and compete against you, just look at the amount of pizza shops that are around in these small towns, most struggle during the winter months. This leads to the fact that having a wage of say 3000zl a month will not be enough to invest in a house.

Work / Salary expectations in Poland [373]

Martin, do not listen to Delphi, he's a "doomsday master" of all times :-). Just try your luck and perhaps you will get what you want.

Yeah I agree, Mr D seems to be all over the place, If you took his advice on business matters you would probally be bankrupt, It was not so long ago that people were saying that they would not teach english for less than 50zl a hour,, My only comment about coming to Poland is not to expect too much, costs are pretty expensive, rent included, wages are still low. Every one in Poland claims to be a expert or hold some degree...You may have to settle for the unemployment pension in Poland!

Life / Have many Poles had enough of one another? [198]

Now, any more posts attacking me and you will be reported and suspended. Clear??

No need for those sort of comments on this forum, I stand by what I have said, firstly I have had 4 business dealings in Poland, 3 have ended in disaster due to people changing there mind, better offer elsewhere etc, I talk from hard experience, stealing well open your eyes, most would agree with what I say. Things are getting better, lets remember the communist system forced people to steal and be dishonest... I might add that its even worse in other old Soviet countries. I would love to talk about corruption, pay backs in Local and Government Departments, but thats for another day.

Thanks Justysia for a lovely response, without a doubt customer service and staff attitudes are getting better and better, its important for customers to at least be friendly and display some sort of humour..I have to say though that when it comes to business transactions Poles are very dishonest, YOU CANNOT TAKE A POLE AT HIS WORD and this is sad. a lot of Poles steal and they front church every sunday... I feel sorry for Seanus who has yet to learn social communication skills, it seems he will never have a nice thing to say about any person and will never be happy...
