I used to date a polish girl from southern poland also. I also remember meeting her parents for the first time.

I got her dad a bottle of vodka and her mom some flowers as a gesture for letting me stay in the house. Just be polite and confident. Offer to go to the pub with her dad and play some billiards or something. You will have to drink vodka... just get over it. Give her dad a firm handshake and look him in the eye, you can do the weird polish alternating cheek kiss thing if you want with her mom.

Also if her mom is anything like my ex's mom... she'll ask you if you are hungry every 5 minutes. Just eat, it makes them happy.

That's is not the problem. Don't judge me, we mean a lot to each other. Long distance relationships just don't work, as evidenced by the fact that we BOTH cheated on each other.

And she wouldn't let me move there. I'm pursuing an engineering degree at Virginia Tech. I mentioned it to her, and she was appalled. She wants to go to a college in the US close to me, even after all of this.

Actually, you're wrong. Remember my posts asking for translations? My fears were correct, she cheated on me.

I broke up with her because of this. But in a way I can see why, she was lonely. We've been doing this for a year, it's just been too much now. As matter of fact, i cheated on her once too and never told her.

I've learned that long distance relationships just don't work. But she is still coming in the summer to see me, she got a 10 year visa.

Specific travel plans mean you have exact plans for what you are going to do while you are in America. So for example, if you wanted to stay in Florida at the beach for a week, you would show the US consular your hotel reservation for exactly that. You basically just need to show the person what you will be doing in Poland so he knows you are there for holiday, not to stay.

By personal ties to Poland, I mean you need to show them that you have a stable job, family, life in Poland as a reason to return after your visit to America. You have to prove to them that these things will cause you to return and not stay illegally.

I'd assume you are applying for a tourist visa?

Tourist visa is one of the hardest to get. You have to have proof that you are actually going there for enjoyment and not trying to immigrate illegally or for work. You are basically guilty until proven innocent.

I'm not familiar with Warsaw, but my girlfriend at the time was applying for a tourist visa in Krakow.

What you need is specific travel plans to be the most convincing. They also take into account your age, your personal ties to Poland, and your financial standing. If you are young, poor, and have no reason to stay in Poland, you will defiantly be denied a visa.

However, if you show that you are just looking for a vacation and some sight-seeing, they will be happy to give you a visa. My ex-girlfriend was a student, so she had definite reason to return to Poland. She was issued visa that won't expire for 10 years.

She's still coming to visit me this summer, but the distance was too hard on our relationship =/

Other things:

you have to apply for your visa online which is then submitted to the US consular in that particular city. Then you will have to make an appointment to go meet with them. You have to pay for this ahead of time and I'm pretty sure it costs about 300 zl. Speaking english if you do so fluently is a very good idea when you meet with the person. It could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to get an appointment, so make sure and schedule plenty ahead of time.

Poland is very relaxed about enforcing drinking. I was actually kind of disappointed when I went after turning 18, because I was looking forward to getting ID'd legally. I never got ID'd once.

Yeah I'm going to a really big out-of-state school though, and I didn't qualify for any financial aid.. including loans. I'm sure I could get student loans outside of the college itself.. but at 30k per year in tuition/room/board I'd rather not be 120k in debt coming out of college.

My parents can only afford 10k per year, but fortunately enough for me my grandma contributes the rest.

And thank you for the input about her visa. I'm worried because she doesn't already have plans booked as proof of her intentions, after all, why spend money on an expensive plane ticket when you don't even know if you get to go?

And she returned 3 months before her student visa expired last time.

Do you know the cost of college? I don't think you would seeing as how you would never be smart enough to go. My parents pull 6 figures a year, meaning that I qualify for NO financial aid. That means that everything that is paid has to be straight cash, no loans, no nothing.

Even my parents, upper-middle class can't afford that kind of out of state tuition. Everyone needs financial aid for college, you ignorant fool.

Agreed. Personally I think that the US consular should switch that guy and my girlfriend. She will at least have the decency to work when we apply for a fiance visa in a few years.

Um actually her family is upper class in poland... and would be considered upper-middle class in America. Her dad OWNS an advertisement company which is large enough that it has American investors, and her mom has an important position in another world-wide company. If i had to guess... they're easily pulling 6 figures per year. They own 2 houses.

So lets not make assumptions here. I'm sure you're bitter and angry about something.

The problem is, we're only 18 and she still has a year of highschool left for christ's sake. If her visa gets denied this will create serious problems. I've already been to Poland twice and it just costs a lot of money to keep going there... thousands. Like i said i'm a student in college and only 18.

My girlfriend and I met when we were 17 years old. She was a foreign exchange student in my highschool and I was a senior in highschool. I graduated and she went back to Poland to finish her school. We are now 18 years old and because of the year in America she still has the rest of this year and then another year of school left.

She still lives in home with her parents and has very strong ties to her home, seeing as she is still dependent on them. She still has one year of school so in order to finish school she needs to return to poland. She is a really good student and she has already proven herself trustworthy by returning to Poland well before her first student visa expired. Her plans are to come and visit me, some friends, and her former host family. She wishes to stay for 3 months during the summer and then return in time to go back to school.

Based off of this information, what are the chances that the USA consular in Krakow will decide to issue her a 3 month tourist visa?

7/10 - I was staying with an upper-middle class family for about 2 weeks, and the house is very cramped with a 1960 TV with rabbit ears. Okay I'm exaggerating, but you get the point. Poland is beautiful though and there's so much to see.

9/10 - Most of the people I met were incredibly nice and welcoming to me, I'm an American dating a Polish girl and everyone was incredibly graceful towards me. Her parents even bought me a tuxedo! I can't tell you how many shots of vodka I was forced to drink so that "we can show you American the polish way!" ;)

10/10 - The food is incredible. Pierogies, zapkienkas, polish sausage, the billions of different soups... I attended a Polish wedding and we litterally had like 7 dinners. Polish food is amazing.

I love Poland and my girlfriend so much that I am returning to Poland this January:)
