USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

Those that are people living in such places as North America, speak no polish, know nothing of polish history and at best has some distant polish great uncle is hardly polish. This is comparable to that disgraceful program jersey shore where they talk like americans, cant speak italian, and act like americans but say that they are italian. However if said person learns polish, polish history and at least visits poland than they could be considered polish. Those who are born in poland, to polish family are obviously polish. Even someone born to polish parents in america is polish, but it is vital to have a connection deeper than a name.

If a person moves away from poland it does not make them any less polish unless when faced with the decision of poland or america having chosen america. Even by some definitions they are still polish, but I would say somewhat traitorous.

you miss understood, I mean in times of war how many would stick by poland in comparision with america, or as you pointed out canada. I did not choose canada over poland, residing here for a while does not imply that I am not loyal and that I will not come back. And I said maybe, because its not that cut and dry, you cant make assumptions like that while knowing very little.

News / Polish Lithuanian Diplomatic War? At last. [533]

It is there government that discriminates on some levels, but at least from experience, and what I hear from friends Lithuanians are nice people. The issues that need to be resolved are the spelling of names and the old arguments over was so and so Lithuanian or Polish. Im wondering how many here have had experience with lithuanians and are not just acting out on perceived beliefs.

If they are the jersey shore type of poles (not nesecessarly to that extent of douchbaggery) then yes their dominant alignment with america is perfectly understandable. Maybe I am a little biased but if they have strong connections to Poland, through family or culture and they feel that association then I would be happy to see them show loyalty to poland. But to answer your yes I would hope that those born in poland would be loyal to it.

Yes That would make sense but they should not be considered or worse, call themselves polish when the only conncection they have is ancestores, that is called heritage, especially 100 years ago. This is a different concept. I do believe that those who moved or have parents that moved and are "first gen" then they should keep in touch.

One might not be 100% ethnically one ethnicity but there are those whose entire families are polish, have been considered polish and lived the polish way are polish. If people would abide by your classification, then no one would be purely anything anywhere.

Of course people are all mixed to various extents no matter how recent or long ago, its works it way over time both. By every definition that matters I am 100% Polish. Despite whatever ethnic mixing I may have I am as Polish as anyone (Except for Polonia, which is mostly extremely mixed). The mixing goes for all groups in the area yet they, same as us are not any less of whatever it is that they are.

If you dont live in the country then you dont have the right to vote period. Especially if you never go there or dont plan on going back. The only way I would vote is under the advice of family. And who the hell would vote for Kaczynski?

USA, Canada / Expat Poles swearing allegiance to the US - how did you feel? [157]

people like havok and trewer are stupid. It is so obvious that they are blind to what America really stands for today. If not then in in that case too, they deserve zero respect for being slaves and even eager servants to the corporate and corrupt government of america. This kind of attitude and behaviour demonstrates this. Are they at all Polish, as I know no Pole thinks this way.

Life / 2 months to go - I will be a Polish citizen and try to find a better place to raise my kid. [67]

This parasite claims we are a waste of time, yet keeps on replying. He is the real loser here. He does not deserve citizenship or his Polish wife. Hope he goes to a better place via suicide. Sounds depressed and resentful enough. I say stop feeding the suicide case so he can stop wallowing in self pity and either leave Poland or kill himself already.

Life / Why Polish people should be proud of being Polish? [370]

I too would like too know when and if Polonius3 has been to Poland.

He seems to have and extremely low opinion of the country and makes a false title for the thread. He is most definitely not proud, I would say even ashamed. I am also beginning to wonder if he is a Pole. If he never has been to Poland his disconnection is understandable. I wonder where he gets his historical information and new on Poland.

It would be nice to see Poland with a product or thing that it is renowned for but look at the history. Maybe we would still have FSO that would have developed into a large car manufacturer, but things did not evolve that way because of events.

Its sad that a Pole would put so much criticism on the country. Criticism is good and can lead to improvement but the amount he spews sounds more like hatred. Funny how foreigners are defending the country against a Pole.

You're using a very very broad definition of 'Pole' there

It is what he claims to be, so Im assuming its true. Does not sound like one to me though. It sounds more like he has been to Poland 500 years ago.

And that is the story of many Polish companies and much of Polish industry. FSO could have evolved no matter how likely of unlikely, it still would have had a chance at growth and greatness. Same goes for other firms that dissolved around the time. You cant disregard the good that solidarity did though not just for Poland but for the whole region.

And if Polonius3 is so determined not to answer the question, he must be ashamed, just as he is ashamed of Poland. The most logical answer would be that he does not want to lie, but has never been there. Confirming that would make him lose credibility. I really want to know because then everyone could understand his post much better whatever the answer is.

News / US air base to be in Poland [193]

Why is Poland getting a US air base where permanent troops and equipment will be stationed. Does this reflect the wishes of the people as Sikorski says? What will the consequences of this be? Do we really need such a target placed on us, or could it have some benefits? Where will this relationship go? I personally dont think the people want it and that the consequences would be negative. We do not need to host a base for the most hated and war mongering military/country world. Look what happened in Germany recently.

After Thursday's meeting in Washington with Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has confirmed that the Americans are planning to place in Poland, a small branch of American troops .

At a meeting with Polish journalists after a conversation with Clinton , Minister Sikorski said that it is a " fixed unit of the Air Force ." During the December visit of President Bronislaw Komorowski in Washington announced that the United States is planning to place in Poland Rotary military aircraft F -16.

As I said think of the bigger picture. International relations and foreign policy. Some jobs being created is not all important. Interesting story :

Who has said anything about worrying about the Russians!? What about terrorists/islamists/jihadists or whatever you want to call them. The US has many enemies, is on the decline, far away from Poland psychically, culturally and in just about every other way. Why make such a close relationship with them, not others? Interesting to see Americans supporting this, but as I said, what about the people. Sikorski is not the people. You ought to know that politicians never wholly represent the people, do not be naive.

Skysoulmate: what are you accusing me of? Nice of you to reconfirm that you fight wars and kill people for the oil corporations though. If you think that I only say this on the internet you are wrong. Truth is truth.

Delph has a good point, when it gets right down to it, the US just doesnt care when it is even in the slightest inconvenience for them, what a healthy relationship. Poland may be on some black list as you say, but much less so than almost any other NATO country. This can only make it much worse.

Yeah...and these are of course not Polands enemies but chums, right?

We should be pursuing closer ties with the rest of Europe, not the US which is so far away and does not care.

That is called appeasement, and never worked. They will come for you only a bit later...

It is not appeasement if one does not want to even go down that path.

Tell me how they care. When they shamefully backed out of their missile defense agreement. Gave us FAKE equipment? A lot of care.

We have not had a single attack or even threat. I see your point though, and I said before we should be concentrating on ties, but with those closer to us. Poland does not need this base, and we have seen how the US treats our agreements. Even closer ties with Germany would be preferable.

tell me, how?

It took them long enough to even do this small thing which according to your article is going to be in 2018. Who know what other "problems" they will run into before then. Even that is besides the point. Poland does not need this. Missile defense from what? Who is going to bomb Poland? Im sure US has these systems to protect itself, as well as other European countries.

But why would China be a threat at all, especially to Poland. China as a power is more favorable to the world then the US. China even when strong has never involved itself in the type of physical and political empire building in all its history. I dont see how this country could be a threat. Tiny US bases in Poland would not help even if there was a threat. Maybe Germany has to worry, but about what? Economic competition? The US yes, a threat to its empire.

China is moving away from that style of government. Slowly but surely. What makes you think that they would build an empire here and impose that rule over the world? A little far fetched. And I thought we agreed that the move with the US is not a good idea.
