History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

In fact America, Britain, and the rest of the world ceased to recognise them when it became clear there was a functioning government operating from Warsaw.

Were these not Stalinist puppets they were recognising?

History / Any Polish real war videos? [4]

There's alot of footage on youtube of the German gunboat Schelswig-Holstein bombarding Westerplatz in Danzig at the start of the war, also there's alot of footage up there of the Nazi attack on the Polish Post Office. Apart from that, I don't know of any other footage. Your brother might also like to watch the victory parade of Hitler driving through Danzig and Gdynia!

The goverment was based in London for many years so I'd say they were recognised in the UK too..In fact they were based in London up to 1990..What was your point exactly?

Britain ceased to recognise the Polish Government in Exile during the war as it displeased Stalin. They had to vacate their embassy as far as I am aware. My point is that Poland was sold up the river by the Allies.

History / The Untold Battle of Britain [205]

I saw this programme and enjoyed it, I think the Polish pilots certainly got a raw deal. Indeed some British politicians resigned over their treatment after the war. The Yalta Betrayal of the Polish Government In Exile was surely a scurrilious decision by Churchill and Roosevelt? Perhaps if the great Sikorski had lived things could have been different.

I don't know why but Ireland recognised the Polish Government in Exile for many years after the war!

There is a 303 Squadron game on the Channel 4 website (I can't post the link because admin think I might be spamming) it's funny, during the game the Polish pilots ask their commander can they shoot German airmen who have bailed out. You even get a medal if you shoot the Germans in their parachutes! I can't get past mission 3, the gunners on those Dornier bombers are lethal! I salute the pilots of 303.

History / Give back Lwow to Poland and Kaliningrad to Germany - is it possible? [198]

Interesting discussion, I think alot of injustice went on but the borders had to be redrawn somehow. Germany definitely fared worst out of the post war redrawn map of Europe losing Konigsberg, all claim to Gdansk/Danzig and even territories west of the Oder-Neisse line like Stettin/Szczecin. If Hitler had not been such a maniac then Germany would be so much bigger today. If the original populations were still there then an argument could be made for redrawing the borders but as people have been expelled and resettled in every direction I think the Poles will have to accept the loss of Lwow and the Germans will have to accept the loss of East Prussia.

We Irish have to accept the loss of Belfast! ;) Maybe some day she will return to the motherland.

Life / SOME OBSERVATIONS ABOUT POLAND AND POLISH SOCIETY [297]

I have been to Poland many times. One observation about Poland I noticed was that when you wish to pay for something in a shop and you don't have the exact change, the shopkeeper gets really annoyed if for example you give a 50 PLN note for something that is 18 PLN! Apart from that I find customer service similar to that of here in Ireland!
