Life / What are the things which cause culture shock in Poland? [164]

Poles just need to be more imaginative in the kitchen.

I use Worcester Sauce (or, even better, Pickapeppa sauce when I can get it) in my bigos, Polish sausage in my Chinese food, and Indian spices in some of my pierogi.

I can't believe how much I rule sometimes** :)

** it says here :)

UK, Ireland / Polish and East European prostitutes in the UK [240]

Sandy Seidel. (100% German.)

wow, she looks like my most recent ex. :0

Well, a much younger version, that is </meow> :D

In USA european women appear better than local because they are slimmer and show more skin(Americans are puritans especially in work place etc there is strict dress code).

Liking women who aren't skinny, and who prefer not to walk around in swimsuit-like clothing all the time, doesn't make you a "puritan"; it's just that when it comes to female clothing, some of us find "less is more" to be more attractive.

And don't bother posting-up a photo of some fat burkha-clad Muslim, because you know exactly what I mean :p ;)

Need help and assistance to ask polish girl out

What is the point of the word "Polish" in this sentence? It's not as if Polish women are humanoid or something.

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

Perhaps thats why they wont give Ice cubes in Heathrow?

To be fair, Heathrow are more obsessed with "cultural sensitivity" than sensitive teeth lol

she must have been from the sticks: there is Kawa mrozona in Poland - they even sell it at the beach:).

I've ordered dozens of "kawy mrozone" all over Poland, and they were always... full of ice ;)

The Polish way is the best for your body because if you drink cold water when it is very hot you heart needs to pump much more and one should drink lukewarm beverage or hot drinks when it is very hot

Pass an oesophageal doppler probe into a tachycardic, septic, febrile person, then fill them with lots of cool intravenous fluid, and watch what happens to their cardiac output, stroke volume and basic cardiovascular observations. You will find that the heart starts working less hard and more efficiently.

Love / Why do Polish women prefer foreigners for boyfriends and husbands? [418]

It was all going so well.

Then...

Then I come.Balkan power. The cards have to be once again distributed.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!111!!!

In reality the only "balkan power" you have is the power to play with your wiener while thinking about "Polki" who won't give you the time of day.

Does anyone remember that episode of Beavis & Butthead from back in the day, where their idea of a great Saturday night out "pulling chicks", was actually to stand next to the hot dog machine in the local paki shop, going "huhhuhhuh, he said horn" every time a girl walked in?

Well, that's southern and his brother, that is... :D

Food / WHY IN POLAND PEOPLE DON'T USE ICE? [142]

You've got a mouth, ask for ice, that's what most normal people do.

Considering how much complaining Poles usually do, you would think that asking for some ice would be easy! :)

If not, I can teach them ;)

An example: where I used to live in Surrey, I often went in a rather nice (non-chain) cafe which was mostly run by Polish staff - but I heard that they weren't allowed to use the language in front of customers. I once ordered an iced cappuccino on a 30+ degree day (as you do).

When it arrived, it was at room temperature. When I complained that it wasn't "iced", the barista said "you wanted cold coffee, yes?", to which I replied " a cold coffee isn't the same thing as an iced coffee innit".

She looked confused. By this time, I was getting even hotter and even more fed up.

So it was time to explain things in a different way: "moze Pani nie rozumie co to znaczy "kawa mrozona?" "

I soon got the ice after that.

If I want lukewarm coffee, I'll ask for one! :D

Food / What's your favorite Polish coffee? [73]

Sometimes one tolerates poor coffee because of other attractions.

I used to prefer the Coffee Heaven in Warsaw's Nowy Świat when it was still the "Nescafe Cafe". Back then, I went in dozens of times, simply because the atmosphere was better, even though the coffee was awful.

Food / What's your favorite Polish coffee? [73]

Every Polish household I've ever visited almost exclusively drinks Gold Blend lol :D

However, my uncle also has a cooker-top espresso pot, as well as the aforementioned jar of Poland's favourite; but he lives in Bielany, so he's quite well-off ;)

UK, Ireland / The secret Polish gay men in the U.K [133]

I suspect them both of sitting fully naked behind their computers when visiting this forum, arousing themselves with the thought that they do and nobody knows about it.

"Iron" means homosexual in London rhyming slang (iron hoof = poof) lol :D

We've decided you are. You just don't know it yet.

You lot can "decide" all you like :p

So all the Poles are coming out of the closet then :-)

wtf?? I'm not gay - it's just an observation that TVN seems to put "token gays" into all its programmes - the ones I've seen, anyway!

Love / All the good Polish men for dating are taken? [111]

Agree with that statement... just like you brits dont go to work drunk but on coke (its always better... u can work harder and more efficiently)

Definitely true in the media!

You have to go fast to hospital or vomit before all alcohol will be absorbed from your digest system...

I have actually performed gastric lavage on poisoned people myself, but never on someone who was only drunk.

You do realise that if someone has ingested enough alcohol to be semi-conscious (i.e., "poisoned"), it's too late to stop the poisoning by removing any alcohol left in their stomach? "Stomach pumping" is dangerous even if it is done correctly, even in drug overdose, and is NEVER done "routinely" in poisoning:

Grow up. I am talking about other substances these people take.

No you weren't, you were replying to a post where drunks were mentioned, not "drug takers".

Smart arse, when you are on the receiving end of these people you would not be so smart.

I've already been on the "receiving end" of hundreds (if not thousands) of these kind of people, and I'm still here, so I'm clearly smarter than you are, "Guest" :p

What planet are you on. Most chavs are either being brought to the hospital to have their stomachs pumped out. Think before you post.

People don't have their stomachs pumped out for drinking too much alcohol. Think before you post.

Zapewniam cię, że w Polsce jest wielu normalnych ludzi nie nadużywających alkoholu, a ty mówisz o bezrobotnym marginesie społecznym.

Not just the unemployed or the underclass. I remember sitting near Warszawa Centralna once, and a group of men sat down and continued to knock back the beers. Then they picked up their bags/tools, and off to work they went. It was obvious from their conversation that they were on their way to work.

in a week? u r sick.

Why should I have to drink a lot? Because I'm Polish? Because I'm British? Sorry, but I simply don't enjoy alcohol enough to get drunk all the time.

But I dont like ppl who spreads the exaggerated myths/autostereotypes. I'm sorry u have so low opinion about ur grandfather fellow countrymen.

Like every stereotype, there is some truth in it. I'm proud of my origins, thank you very much!

But considering the opinion which many "real" Poles have towards those of us who weren't actually born in Poland, my opinion probably ought to be much lower!

because you dont allow alcoholics and homeless to get into bus??

No, because going to work drunk isn't really that common over here.

I think it might be that your "margines społeczny" sits in homes because they have good benefits...

Well of course I know that on Poland we have lots of margines społeczny but still its abuse to say that Polish men are alcoholics in general.

True, but everyone knows how much Poles like to drink. No-one is saying that ALL Poles have a drink problem, but you have to admit that Poland has a big problem with alcoholism/heavy drinking. Me? Well, I'm of Polish origin, born and brought up in the UK, yet I probably drink less in a year than the average "real Pole" drinks in a week. That probably makes me a pedał in the eyes of a typical hard-drinking Pole!

Poland is without its share of serious issues.

alcohol issues, corruption and the list goes on.

If you think Poland has no problems with alcohol or corruption, you must have been in a coma for the last 50 years!

Britain is the binge drinking capital of the world. Followed by chavs jumping from every allyway, what a sad nation it has become. What a claim to fame binge drinkers and chavs all in the same decade.

Britons may binge drink, but when I get on an early morning bus/train/tram over here, it doesn't stink of alcohol - unlike buses/trains/trams in Poland!

Over here, it's rare to see people lying around in public places, too drunk to move, at any time of day - unlike (yes, you guessed it) in Poland. :p

UK, Ireland / Nursing staff from Eastern Europe about to 'flood' into UK ? [45]

No they are paid the same wages as their counterparts in the same jobs.

Sort of.

New immigrants (and UK citizens returning to the NHS after a few years abroad) are paid the same as newly-qualified nurses, irrespective of experience. It takes about seven years to climb back to the top of the scale. It is therefore obvious that some (if not all) employers would rather go abroad, rather than pay someone up to £7K a year to do the same job, if the opportunity is there.

The fact that a nurse with 20 years experience may only get paid £7K an year more than someone who is recently qualified is shameful enough in itself, but employers clearly do not think so. It's obvious that employers are rubbing their hands at the prospect of "getting the job done" for £20.5K p.a. instead of up to £27.5K.

As a consequence of this, applicants for nurse training or nursing jobs will fall, which will give the papers yet another opportunity to claim that nursing is another job "which British people won't do".

Everyone knows that "frontline services" will NOT be protected - Governments LOVE the jobs which keep people under control - i.e., managers and faceless clipboard-waving bureaucrats - and nursing posts will form the majority of posts to go in the forthcoming NHS cuts. Yet the EU is imposing YET ANOTHER law on us which will make it even more difficult for British workers to find jobs!

This country is clearly heading for widespread race riots or even civil war unless we leave the corrupt EUSSR.

Unfortunately, some qualifications from Poland (and likely other Eastern European Countries, perhaps also UK?), etc, have been proved to be forged.

I strongly suspect that my ex had forged qualifications, but as I cannot prove this, I couldn't really do anything about it. But based on the questions she asked me (which even a first year nursing student should be able to answer) I simply couldn't believe that she had over a decade's experience in ICU/PACU/

Anaesthetics in Poland - unless, of course, Polish nurses working in such areas are simply there to do the sort of things which anyone can do (washes, position changes etc) and have no clinical role (giving drugs, making decisions on fluid management, etc) - but I do not believe that this is the case. All the other Polish nurses I have met seemed well-trained, intelligent and knowledgable.

The jobs are always secure, have you tried sacking a nurse when we have all the backing of the unions. These days you can't even sack someone who is drunk on the job. Trust me I've tried.

True. But in my experience, employers have other ways of getting rid of people who rock the boat - turning a blind eye to bullying, denying them training opportunities, changing their rota so it makes life more difficult for them, etc. I've seen plenty of this during my working lifetime, so I can definitely imagine some employers allowing this to go on, so that experienced (better-paid) staff will move on, in order to replace them with someone who costs up to £7K per annum less.
