Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Here's a quick lesson where the word "american" comes from:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_%28word%29#History_of_the_word

I cannot understand why they so desperately want to be something else - what's wrong with being from a strong, proud country with proud traditions and a fairly interesting history, along with a huge amount of diversity?

Are u talking about US&A? All they had/have is EUROPEAN. U forgot that the 1st settlers there were refugees just like u find them today all over the world.

What traditions, values, history etc.??

Genealogy / Polish nationality? Which of the following (if any) determine being Polish. [231]

Traditions? Plenty of them - the pledge of allegiance every morning being the most notable one in my view, but there are plenty of others.

"...From the 16th to the 19th centuries, an estimated 12 million Africans were shipped as slaves to the Americas. (see Slavery in the Americas)[5][6] Of these, an estimated 645,000 were brought to what is now the United States.[7]..." from

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_the_United_States

Values? Well, American values are one in which hard work is rewarded. In fact, the very essence of America is hard work.

Not only in US&A. As I said, authentically is what u praise european, 'cause that's where they all came from. Surprise?

History? Well, right back to Colonial times, then an interesting civil war, an interesting history in terms of expansion (how Alaska was purchased, for instance) and even their role nowadays as a superpower.

I am shivering. U really go back in time.

Do you ask for a lesson?
Your ignorance about American traditions, values and history doesn't entitle you to be an arrogant cock.

No thank u. Had mine when I was in US&A. Kind of amusing what I listened to.

Life / Poland, maybe the world's last bastion of faith [67]

Since when are Jews chosen? Why not Hindus?

What crap are u writing here? Why should Poland "contribute" to "protect" Israel? It's the same sh1tty thinking like for Afghanistan and Irak. Israel is not Poland's problem. Let the locals solve it. If they cannot, f*** it.

Sorry, but since when does Israel need help if it has US&A and the UN on it side?

Did u know that Israel never was called in front of the UN for committed war crimes?
Doesn't that tell u anything?

What are the Aussies doing there so far from home?

Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

As it is in Germany, NL, and nearly all other countries in Europe. You have a choice too in the West.

Agreed. Luckily the customers can in small amount dictate what they want in terms of quality. Unfortunately that "better food" is more expensive and by logic only available for the potent customers.

I hope that Poland will not to the extend follow the "West train". During my projects I had all over Poland in the 90's and the frequent travel, I was positively surprised or better happy to eat food with the quality I remember from my childhood.

M-G (thinks it's nonsense to state that all food in the West is somehow processed)

Unfortunately the bigger amount is processed or genetic manipulated.

Life / Poland, maybe the world's last bastion of faith [67]

if you are a atheist there is no hope for you. Christians have more in common with all people of faith, because there is a belief in one God, with atheists - there is no common ground.

Any examples? What makes u think that? Not everybody believes in the big mannitou.

Watch this movie, please. It has 9(!) parts, but try.

Food / Is Polish food still more natural than in the West? [142]

Can you explain - or give examples?

Just briefly for you.

F.e. many of the dairy products are not based on milk but on supplements of it in form of powder, flavour and colour. U think u consume sth because the taste etc. is familiar for u but actually it's fake.

Meat in mass productions is also modified in form, taste and flavour.

And so on and on and on....

Many of the big companies have laboratories which they need for food design. What do u think are they doing there?

But the point is that you said that food in "western Europe" was more likely to be processed than in Poland - did you not?

Yes I did. Why? U don't agree?

Of course there is always an alternative. ;-)

USA, Canada / Better life in USA or Canada? - expats opinions and your comparison [143]

Neither did any people who lived in that area...

What do you know about ex YU? Were u even born then? Did u travel to that area, ever? Reed books about YU?

Btw. YU in 1961 was one of the founder of the "block free nations" in Kinshasa.

US&A or CAN? Even with worse weather but nicer people, CAN.

UK, Ireland / Polish question: what's with the Germans, Brits? Foreign groups in Great Britain. [46]

They behave themselves and seem to like the fleisch (meat) on offer. Boy, German tourists are often overweight ;)

Of course. Disziplin!
A research, shortly released, says that Germans are the 2nd overweight nation in Europe, after Britains...and of course we like everything cheaper - saving money...;-)

Our Fräuleins are famous...we export them to the whole world!

What I saw on the beaches this summer from Germany is more for hiding in the basement. These younger generations have different focuses....

UK, Ireland / Polish question: what's with the Germans, Brits? Foreign groups in Great Britain. [46]

Gerries had Hitler

Too easy simplifaction.

they both would like to be the dominant nation in Europe.

They are, what is good and bad.

Lets face it, who calls the most shots in the EU ?

F, UK and D on the long arm from over the ocean ;-)

they seem to see the Scots in a much more positive light

My favorite Scot is Sean Connery. ;-)))

Life / Polish are some of the best educated in the world [35]

I can say that after High school Polish kids are better educated then American kids

Yes, agreed, but for how long more?

We are on the best way to soften our education just to be similar to US.

Why?

No reason to. They have great specialists with excellent knowledge of a narrow area but lack a lot in the wider specter.

Life / Polish are some of the best educated in the world [35]

that everyone wants to go to an American university

Unfortunately USA has good marketing. There are only 4-5 very good unis and they are all private and very expensive.

The few state ones are not so known...

But anyway, don't mix educations and economical reasons. ;-)

News / Coach crash in Germany. Polish coach... many dead [26]

One has to be a real *********** to refer to the bad technical shape of Polish buses in clear case like that !

Prejudices are hard to erase. That's typical. Unfortunately accusations are fast made. That's what is embarrassing.

This was a very sad and tragical accident.

USA, Canada / Poles and American Poles. What do you think about those two groups and their interactions. [85]

Nationality, citizenship, origin, identity... name it what you want. :-)

Everybody should call himself how he feels in this situation, no matter what others(organizations, government etc.) may have in mind.

What is f.e. Lucas Podolski? O.K., he's not American/American pole but I think the example in general is not too bad.
