Language / Polish saying about spider webs? [21]

margeincharge
This is one of the real saying ;) Other people often say that spider in house means happiness in house. Instead of happiness (or in addition to it) you can hear the other words like well-being, welfare, safety.

Travel / Roadworks on E67 - schedule? [3]

Nobody knows for sure. For now part from Rawa Mazowiecka to Mszczonów is under construction, the next part from Mszczonów to Warsaw is yet on preparation stage. It may be even 2014 year when it will be ready...

In attachements is the official, current map (from march 21th) of roads in Poland: the red lines means roads under construction, the black - already in use, green - public auction stage, and grey - preparation stage.

Law / Can I legally buy a car with IDP in Poland? [2]

A person with an international driving license issued to the national Lebanon driver's license can move through the territory of Poland in tourist traffic. The Lebanon international driving license is valid for the period for which the license was issued, but not later than the expiration date of the national Lebanon driving license.

You can buy a car. It shouldn't be a problem with the car registration if you have registered address in Poland. After this you can (OC insurance is a must) buy the insurance - everything legally.

Travel / How available is internet/wifi in Poland? [24]

Except some smaller villages, everywhere the phone is, there should be internet available. Unfortunately cost of it still belongs to highest in Europe - from 30,40 to above 100zl, for a month, depending from the speed. In addition long time contract is mostly required (min. 1 year).

There's more and more free hotspots in Poland. Typical place is the hotel, good restaurant, marketplace in the city, etc., so like in the other countries.

Here's a list of free hotspots in polish cities, although not full surely: hot.spots.pl/index.php?action=szukaj

just buy a umts card. 3g is all over the place

It may be one of solutions.

Good luck!

Travel / The best and inexpensive way to travel from Prague to Warsaw? [15]

Trains in Czech Rep. are cheap and safe (once traveled to Praha via train). Look at this: czech-transport.com/index.php?id=487

I don't know much about Wizz Air, but found these opinions: airlinequality.com/Forum/wizz.htm

History / Is there a list of the Polish prisoners that were held at Buchenwald Concentration Camp? [2]

Little search in google and I found that people can send questions there its-arolsen.org/en/contact_information/index.html also to the Auschwitz Museum here archiwum@auschwitz.org.pl, they have also indexed data about Buchenwald prisoners - you should write your name and address and describe who the person is for you, how you're related, etc. Give any possible information about missing person - names, birthplace, prisoner number if possible, maybe time when he/she got to the Buchenwald.

One of polish forums about missing prisoners is here

Good Luck!

Life / Poland's media on satellite - best for increasing language knowledge and a Polish lifestyle [4]

If you are interested in polish FTA channels here's a list:
Hot Bird 13'E
4funTV, EDUSAT, ESKA TV, ITV, MANGO24, POLONIA 1, RABEL TV, TELE 5, TV BIZNES, TV PULS, TVN WARSZAWA, TVP KULTURA, TVP POLONIA, TVS - TV SILESIA, VIVA POLSKA

Astra 19,2'E

TV TRWAM, TVP HISTORIA, TVP INFO, TVP KULTURA, TVP POLONIA

There's also possibility to watch some channels online, my favorite is darmowatelewizja.dbv.pl/, especially TVN: - very popular channel in Poland.

You can click on every channel, and find out what you like.

TV Puls isn't very popular channel in Poland but it's free to watch abroad in Europe. Lots of tv shows there, the "Burza uczuć" is german. If you would want to know about polish people I would recommend some polish shows, the only I see here is "Dyżur" - the document about work of medical services.

TVP Kultura and TV Polonia is more "cultural" tv, and also interesting. Polonia 1 is similar to Puls, the same Tele5, TV Biznes is about business in Poland, TVN Warszawa - news from Warsaw, TVP Info - local news and stories from around the country, 4funtv is music and fun, Edusat is the education tv, Mango24 - just the ads.
