I believe if Poles will feel safer with U.S. Patriot missiles - why not? It's always easier to talk if the partner feels safe. From pure military point of view there is nothing changed.

Global missile defense system put Russia in unsafe position degrading our strategic forces.

It's positions in Poland would really be a danger for Poles also - (1) putting them as a target for nucs and (2) anti-misssile missiles launch looks on radars too similar to ordinary nuc missiles and may trigger a war even when used against Iran.

This is what I mean:

It's an old information about "U.S. missile shield plans" - cancelled and replaced with Patriot system, completely diferent. Russia is also not very happy but it is not a danger.

Any U.S. global anti-missile shield element is a strategic target for Russian missiles. It is not useful for Poles and is rather dangerous for both of us.

Just take it as our paranoia - you haven't monopoly for it :)

but the patriot missiles (short-range missiles) are meant precisely for security against Russia:

It doesn't create important target by itsef and not a danger for us by itself. If it is good for Pole's security feelings - it's OK for us too.

Jed, AFAIK the system can work against ballistic missilery.

Short range only - not a problem. I didn't hear laud protests from our side - unhappy, yes, but we can live with it.

If our close neighbour feels unsafe it is more dangerous for us. And it is bad for business.

I'm just making the point that the Russian government was pissed about this--there's no denying that.

All your proofs sent us to 2008 - it's all about GMD missiles. Newer information is rather neutral.

I don't think we should be happy with "Patriots" - more arms create more danger. I just said that danger level is lower with it than with GMD. May be I missed something but there are no serious targets in Polish territory to protect with Patriots against our tactical missiles. GMD position would be a target but it is not there.

Informations in kyivpost is neutral (don't you forget it is from Ukraine?)

Jed, is this headline any clearer for you?

That's a danger: "...aside from the Patriots Washington aims to deploy new SM-3 missiles in Poland and the Czech Republic in 2015."

How Kaczynski "assasination" would influence it? It may only increase Poles favor to host US shield. Russia has the opposite aim. Look somewhere else.

How? By getting rid of the staunchest supporters of it, i.e. less opposition to overturning it.

Just read your article lower:
"Last month Obama scrapped a plan agreed by his Republican predecessor George W. Bush to install a controversial anti-missile system in the two neighbours." - it's about those SM-3 for 2015.

Thus, the problem is currently not existing. No reason for mads in Russia to kill somebody.

Where's their camera showing the plane and weather

The first witness interview I saw on Russian TV (Rossiaya 24) was with Polish journalist with camera in hands - he run from a meeting point in the airport to the crash site immediately after the catastrophe. I don't know his name but he wasn't alone - there were other Polish witnesses.

Ask them about weather conditions - it should be in Polish sources. For myself it is not a question - a lot of witnesses in Smolensk confirmed that there was a heavy fog at this time. Nothing to discuss.

Couldn't find any reliable source for this stupid idea. May be this is your 'reliable" source of information?

Olga, I can't read Polish, but it is not a cockpit on the first photo - it looks like an opposite part, a tail with engine.

Because as we know, pilot's errors NEVER happen.

I don't like to blame the pilot - he can't answer. We wiil have the right to blame him only after all other possibilities studied.

And the whole flight and visit organisation are almost out of discussion - there are possible alive people sharing responsibility?
