News / Should Poland leave the EU institution? [147]

And we shouldn't forget that Poland is the biggest recipient of EU aid.

Poland was also biggest recipient of war damage. Consider EU aid war reparations, why not? The longer Poland stays in EU, Poland will eventually lose it's sovereignty. Poland should emulate Norway, Iceland, Switzerland. Forget EU.

Law / Poland on its way to Greece? [64]

Sorry, but Poland's choice in the long run is to repeal the Treaty or join the Euro.

If it was up to me (of course which it isn't) I'd vote for repeal. As for the the money Poland has received from the Euro zone just consider it war reparations. If Poland accepts the Euro they'll become another Ireland.

Seanus,

Chicago Pol? Materialism is not so intertwined with religion IMHO. Again, a simple label slap with no real rational thought behind it.

Roman Church preaches anti-materialistic message but Vatican walls are encased in Gold. Material wealth is morally neutral.

Law / Poland on its way to Greece? [64]

They have it bad because they gave up their currency for the Euro which is really the German Mark. The Euro is much stronger of a currency than their economies can support.

Law / Poland on its way to Greece? [64]

Materialism is overrated? Spoken like a true Catholic. Roman pagan hogwash. But getting back to the point, Poland won't go the way of Greece as long as they keep the zloty. If things get bad they can do what Iceland did and reflate their currency. If they give up the zloty for the Euro they need their heads examined. Give up your currency, give up your sovereignty.

Love / Do Polish women talk too much? [74]

Do Polish women talk too much?

Just be yourself girl. Don't worry 'bout the small stuff. Generally speaking talkative women date quiet men and talkative men date quiet women. Opposites attract.

Food / Is brain-damaging vegan fad growing in Poland? [176]

If people weren't meant to eat meat our digestive tracts would have prevented it, ya know like herbivores. It's been stated previously in this thread but Humans are omnivores which is so true. Vegetarians and vegans often times will load up on the carbohydrates as stated in Eurola's post due to their lack of protein. The problem with modern day diets is too many carbs in sugars and starches and not enough protein. Thus the incidence of obesity.

Hunting? If it's wrong to eat animals it's wrong to eat plants. A guy's gotta eat.

News / Sikorski doctrine - Eastern Europe under threat. Poland's foreign policy. [171]

Marek and Torq miss the point. All Poland needs is a Switzerland type reserve army and air force armed with ground support aircraft and helicopters. Don't make the mistake of the 1930's trying to have the latest and greatest military equipment and in the meantime leaving Polish borders undefended.

Law / Zloty lifts Poland's Economy [43]

Don't give up the zloty:

With its drab, Soviet-era boulevards and standard-issue glass-and-steel office buildings, Warsaw does not look much like green, elegant Dublin. But there are some striking similarities between Poland today and Ireland in the 1990s.

Love / 20% of adult Poles are single and live with Mummy! [241]

As I said it's easy to be independend in the USA. In Poland parents call you a sucker when you want to move out from home and lose your all savings on rental bills.

Housing may be more available in USA than Europe, but still not easy. You need to cut the umbilical cord, with ma and pa. Polish parents are tough all over, not just in Poland. They don't like giving up their babies.

i realize that the situation for young people in PL sucks, but the question is: how to change it?

Do what you did, move out. University housing? Move into apartment house in Poland? Or move out of Poland?

Let's face it, we all had to do it and it was never easy.

Life / I saw Polish nationalism today [261]

ok, people, I want to know why the most popular threads here are the ones where people throw sh*t in each others faces, and the ones that ask for intelligent exchange of information die down quickly.

And you wanna move to Poland? You'll never make it!

Life / Class system in Poland - does it exist? [90]

Even though my dad has title of engineer and master, I don't consider him as an intelligent man.

If he's an engineer he's intelligent. That's a tough curriculum. You're confusing temperament with intelligence.

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

In fact, it would require even more loans.

@ zero percent, doesn't matter. It's free money.

- trim import from China and shift towards production at home
- refuse to buy anything from China until they stop keeping their currency artificially low

At the present time companies are sitting on trillions. They won't change until they change how they think. That will take a bit of time.

people here are getting rich as we speak too. Crisis or not there is always opportunity for many.

Yeah, in the stock market. Buy Ford.

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

Yeah, the infrastructure projects are fine although a hassle to drive around! But, you see even though the interest rates are low people are losing homes and a very few are buying! Why? Job insecurity. It is a great time for people who have a few dollars or a secure job (is there such thing now?).

Yes, I agree the housing crisis is due to lack of jobs. If we didn't have a knucklehead for a President he'd authorize infrastructure projects, rebuilding roads and bridges and rail lines. Those infrastructure projects would provide jobs to keep people in their homes and they would spend money which would create more jobs. But we have the knucklehead Democrats who want to get us out of our cars and into high speed trains and the knucklehead Republicans who want to restrict spending (not at a time like this).

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

True, but I've been through one of these before (mid '70s). And my parents been through the Great Depression.

Interest rates are now at about zero. Now's the time to spend government money on infrastructure projects. Not when interest rates are 10% or 15%. Don't believe the deficit blather. It matters...in the long run. Time is on our side.

News / Poles are getting rich... [63]

So why is it accepted in America? When will people realize that we are half way there?

It's not accepted in America. Unfortunately, in the name of Free market ideology, we unloaded our manufacturing jobs to China, our service jobs to India and on top of this we allowed in tons of illegal mexicans solely to lower our standard of living. In time it'll change but in the meantime we need Government spending to keep people in their homes and off the street. Money has to circulate or you get a depression.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

Unfortunately when Polanians vote in Polish elections they don't have to live with the consequences. But this is something that has Polish roots as historically Poles have been governed (ruled) by outsiders.

They are worse than 'plastic Poles' -- they are plastic people!

You're too hard on your own people (but than again this is a Polish trait also, isn't it?). The Poles have come out of foreign rule for about the last two hundred years. They need some time to re-develop. In America, ethnic Poles reach their full potential, especially after the first generation.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

This being Polish seems to be still very important to many of you, for how many I can't tell as where I live, I've never met anyone with Polish roots.

Ethnicity is most important in the major cities in the northeast and great lakes states, less so in the South and West. So in NC I would imagine ethnicity is non existent. Also the Polish settled in the cities of the Great Lakes: Chicago, Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo. Outside of these cities you'll find a smattering of Polaks but they're probably well assimilated, therefore indistinguishable from other Americans.

USA, Canada / Polack/American Polonia/Plastic Pole "culture" [568]

Is it only me that finds the American "Polonia" attitude towards Poland irritating and downright insulting towards real Polish people?

Some people suffer from an identity crisis. A small minority here in the States, but unfortunately they show up here on this forum from time to time.

Well I'm real Polish from Poland and I take it offensive. Note that Polack have different spelling than Polak.

Take offense? Your wasting your energy. Better spend your time getting the money and making the effort to go visit America and see for yourself. If you want to see how Poles live in America go to Chicago.

UK, Ireland / What English food would you serve a Pole? [83]

The big problem here is that Britain, like Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands for example do not really have a national cuisine as such.

Being married to an English woman, I disagree. I think England definitely has an English cuisine but it is underrated. One of the best meals I ever had was at a pub in downtown Scarborough. Roast Beef, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, peas, great traditional English meal.

England should do more to promote their cuisine.

Law / The best job in the World - Polish farmer. [50]

- Average farm in Poland is 10,23 ha (102300 square meters).

In the States farming 25 acres can get you $100,000.00. Truck farming (vegetables) and selling them at a farmers market or selling them to local restaurants, grocery stores. 12 hour days March through October and than you get the winter off. Farming can be quite lucrative.

Law / The right to own guns: would you support such legislation in Poland? [2237]

F -stop you misinterpret the US Constitution. Europe's Political tradition is that the King rules from divine right and all citizens are subjects of the King. In modern days we can substitute the King for modern Governments. The United States doesn't have this tradition. America is about individual responsibilities, in other words the citizenry is responsible for the government. That's where the Second Amendment comes from and all the other Bill of Rights.
