Yet another example of the Polish knee jerk "blame someone else and deflect" tactic. It's inevitable. Can't you ever just say "yeah that's something we should work on" without saying "but"?

and still visits POLISH forums. cant forget Poland

Like someone said above...trying to keep others from making the same mistakes ;)

All expats wish they had known a lot of things and how to deal with them beforehand. It can save you a ton of grief.

no, there should be place in the world for a little ancient submergence in the myth. the enlightment was all the hype in 18th century, but that was long ago.

Tell the truth you are typing Polish into Poltran and posting the output here right?

Its natural...men with their pully sniped isnt...Would you cut a polo neck into a V neck?

Women with hairy legs and armpits is natural too but most of us wouldn't prefer it ;)

Girls who have their first trimmed willie are usually complimentary and prefer it. It's a hygiene thing more than anything. I have heard tons of girls complain uncut guys don't know how to wash themselves right.

You have places like ready's and sphinx

I can't eat in Polish restaurants of any brand as they push the tables so close together you can't move the chair to get up and have to deal with your neighbors elbowing you all the time. Couple that with the crappy service and it's not fun at all to go eat out.

Where did you get the information from that I'm in Poland?

So you are Polish but live abroad? Would make more sense as they are the ones who moan the most about all things Poland. If you are not connected at all you must just like to argue about food.

I beg to differ. I have a Polish girlfriend and I think she is great. She is not much different to my other girlfriends.

Just wait. They start out great and a slow and subtle change occurs. You will see it for yourself.

God forbid they hit 25 and aren't married. Between their family, friends and TV pressuring them your life will change.

She liked you because she had a romanticized idea of Europeans like people tend to do when they don't know realities. Then they see past the accent and realize they don't have much in common with you. That and they can't get over the weird extra bit of skin you guys have down there ;)

For that matter, speaking with many American high school graduates you would inevitably reach conclusion that the "high" in the school's name stands for getting high on drugs.

Nonsense. More attempts to feel superior eh?

All countries have dumb people but a lot of Americans know of nothing outside of America. The students that i stayed with thought the film Eurotrip was an accurate view of Europe.

See I hear this from Euros all the time but I have seen plenty of people who know where Austria is. I think you like to perpetuate this to feel superior. You keep repeating the same urban myths as fact.

I know you will hate to hear it but we are just as well versed in geography as you are. I don't use Leno and random online 'tests' as my data however.

mira

Fresh fruits and vegetables being number one (In Poland they are half rotten and the shops leave them out to sell). Not to mention the variety is horrible. I guess if all you want Apples, Bananas and grapes with seeds in them you are set. Of course you can buy some berries occasionally for really high prices for a tiny container.

Also any food that is not local to Poland is stupidly marked up....Mexican, French, whatever...they are in special sections with exorbitant prices. Lot's of cheeses that are considered normal everywhere else are marked up "luxury" items in Poland. If you love cheap, white plastic tasting cheese like the Polish version of gouda you are good to go however.

Pretty much everything is substandard there when it comes to food in my experience. But then I don't like white doughy crap, cabbage and pork with everything.

I did get tired of hearing from Poles how poor education is in the US. I went off on them regularly for this. Europeans in general really want to feel they are smarter than us Yanks and cite some stupid TV piece they saw or something they read online. I can find just as many stupid people in Poland.

Not to mention Poles all saying they have Master's degrees when in reality they do not by our standards. But that doesn't stop them from claiming it. We also have to actually TAKE our exams and not carry in cheat sheets.

I realized I misspelled and was going to change it but now it just looks like I am editing it because I was busted ;) So I will leave it. I have no ego really. I am always doing that with it's/its site/sight etc. Oh well..at least I don't type in text speak like most people anymore.

I had two types of people I dealt with in any Polish office (especially immigration) 1. The cute younger ones who flirted and helped you as long as you smiled and were nice and 2. the other 90% some young, some old who were not even hiding the fact that they despised even having to talk to you and treated you like crap.

Can you get rid of the poetic literary stuff? Poles love to try to talk that way and it usually just makes their point get lost. I am not sure exactly what you are saying.

Here here Torq...I cheered out loud at the "get rid of 90% of rules and fire 70% of clerks" bit. Actually I wouldn't want people to lose their jobs but FFS require them to actually KNOW and DO their job. They are the biggest obstacles to getting anything done in Poland. I actually was nearly kicked out of Poland 3 years ago because some official went on holiday for 2 months and my papers didn't get signed. For nearly a 1/4 of the year I had no papers and no explanation from them or way to prove I was legal. Made a real mess.

please don't exaggerate.

That's the Polish way not mine. I think Polish food is bland and predictable as a whole. They still cook and eat as if all that is available is cheap war era food. If you CAN find a decent place to buy the things the rest of the developed world can the prices are 4X as high. Swiat Kuchnia should be embarrassed to even put the price stickers on.

Those that really did such things don't brag about it. It's clear you and yours had nothing to do with the heroic acts you wish were true.

News / What the Polish government do to bring back home Polish immigrants? [116]

Orzel expat Poles can't teach the locals anything about what is really going on because they are not living it. I am pretty sure a full time Pole has a much better understanding about life there than you do.

I love these threads about someone being so pumped to go back to Poland because life in the US or Canada or whatever sucks. You never hear from them again. You know why? Because if they do go they quickly realize it's not the paradise they imagined. Bluster and drinking songs can only take you so far before the reality of a lower first world/second world lifestyle sets in and you realize how good you had it before.

And Seanus...there are over a million documented Poles in Chicago alone. Double (or more) that to account for all the illegals and that's 2 million in just ONE US city. You probably have millions more in Candada and other US Polish hubs like New York. I don't see it as a stretch to reach your numbers.

It's funny how there were tons of collaborators yet nobody has a relative who was one. Everyone's relatives were HEROES. It's probably like most things the ones who go on the most about patriotism are the ones who's family sold others out. I bet you come from a long line of self preservationists Hitman.

Poland is the only country in Europe that has a positive growth of BNP now.

Way to illustrate the Polish trait of taking credit for something they didn't have anything to do with. It was a matter of coincidence that this all occurred while Poland was in this particular stage of it's economy. With the massive amounts of credit Poles live on (more than the Yanks on a per unit income basis) there is a BIG mess coming. Nobody can afford a 500,000pln flat on 2500pln a month yet there are plenty of those around.

BTW Swede you quoted someone else but put my name on it....I didn't say that.

Americans are OBSESSED with patriotism and your bashing Poland? Reality check!

Have you lived in the USA Orzel? I have lived in both nations for a long time so before I bother replying to you in detail I want to know if you even have the actual perspective. I am doubting you do based on your above comments.

And Torq...you are the kind of person that keeps me from being able to say in all honesty that all Poles suck. Just like in any place there are good and bad people and reasonable and unreasonable people. You are fairly reasonable not because you claimed to agree with me but rather because you are willing to consider the view.

Sadly for Poland the national reputation is not a great one...some of hat is undeserved and rooted in the past and some is well deserved and current. Nobody is criticizing the Poles who fought and survived the occupations...nobody is saying Polish genes are defective...what we ARE saying is that modern Polish culture has some huge changes it will have to undertake if it want's respect.

Oh, come on now - it's just banter. I don't think anyone takes all that talk seriously :-)

Well that's where you are mistaken. This builds up a reputation for you as a people and frankly it's not the greatest. If you want a better international reputation then stop with the bragging and nonsense. The "stupid" reputation of Poles comes from the stubborn unwillingness to do more than the bare minimum or admit fault. If Poles don't know something they will lie or blow it off rather than admit it and find out or fix it....people don't like this.

I can go on for hours with fellow expats about the "Polish way" and we often have each other in stitches because there is so much that is "different" in Poland and it's rarely "better".

If you want to be respected start acting in a way that deserves it.
