History / Whom do the people in Poland hate more: Germans or Russians? [869]

I hate to break this to you, and I know I 'am a little late of the mark. However you forgot, if you ever knew the history of your Frederick William II (that handsome looking slim individual with a great haircut lol) in the first place, that he signed the Polish-Lithuanian and Prussian alliance on 29 March 1790, only to break it at a later stage. You see German perfidy goes back centuries and isn't a recent invention.

Having said that I think the two countries have lot in common with each other, one just needs to look at the history of recent figures such as Admiral Jozef Unrug and general Juliusz Rommel to realise. That's not mention all the Poles working in Germany and the assimilation of the two nations over the centuries. Today the relationship between the 2 governments is especially close. However I still think that the UK is Poland’s no. 1 partner in Europe, especially considering the backgrounds of Poland's finance minister Jacek Rostowski and foreign minister Radek Sikorski.

Congrats you have the honour of being my first post on this forum lol.

History / Is Jozef Pilsudski the king of modern Poles? [138]

That wouldn't be the time when the Germans slaughtered each in the 30 years war and looked to Poland (The country that guaranteed its citizens religious toleration in its law) as a place of refuge would it?

Right. And remind me how did he treat the Polish minority in Germany? In stark contrast to the way the Poles treated the German minority in Poland. Nationalist in outlook yes, as nationalist as Germany not quite.

Hmmm Funny that. I thought that it was the Poles with the first modern European constitution.

First European public library

First ministry of Education in Europe

An older university, than any German university 1364 Jagiellonian universities, compared to Heidelberg 1386.

An older country

Earlier concepts of Rights and liberties and generally democratic forms of governance than Germany

Poles the civilised ones and Germans the Barbarians, Parish the thought.

[quote=jeden]Older united State I think would be better words[/quote exactly.

Germany was officially formed and unified in the 19th century.

Holy Roman Empire? HRE existed while the slavic tribes in Poland were still Pagan.

German tribes helped to bring down the actual Roman Empire

Of course. Received its charter from Barbarossa. And you've got Charles University in Prague as well.

Clap trap, try telling the Italians that. It is not German period. "in the 19th century, a committee of historians led by Giosuè Carducci traced the founding of the University back to 1088"

marqoz

Germany was unified in the 19th century. That is when it becomes to all intents a purposes a country.

Right, but what's your point? The HRE still existed while the slavic tribes in Poland were Pagan.

Geographical coincidence.

And Poland was officially formed and unified in 1990. Or do you want to go back to the commonwealth and call that Poland even though 80% of the territory doesn't match up with where Poland is on the map today...

yes it was the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. So not only was it united as a country, it later managed to unify with other countries without trying to exterminate their populations.

Formation

Thanks for the info, but I already know that. you might capture my imagination by interpreting the painting of The Wanderer and linking it to the German cultural experience. My point was that by the 19th century most European countries of the same ethnicity had settled any civil conflict between each other some time ago.

This is slightly of topic and i I apologise, however I would like to know what is Bratwurst Boy’s opinion on current German politics. How do you view the CDU-FDP alliance, how would you rate the cabinet? Will Gesine Schwan run for the presidency again? If you're listening.

don't you take an interest in German politics? Given that Schwan speaks Polish a closer alliance is not out of the question.

Most people are quite confused about this cabinet and wish the old gov back...seriously..

But the old Gov was almost a polar opposite, surely the current Gov has more in common.

can Kohler serve for more that 2 terms, or is this his 1st.

UK, Ireland / Brits to protest against foreigners in the workforce, including Poles. [289]

No wonder they're protesting, most of them are clearly thick as ****, vote BNP, complain about "bloody foreigners" and then demand that their (equally thick as ****) wife cooks them "chikkin tikka masala innit" for dinner.

Lol Lol Lol this is gold

Work / Is it normal for companies/schools in Poland to be rude? [116]

I don't know about he education system in the UK. I do know that in Poland, universities have been steadily dropping standards with the same "pass everyone" mentality.

Must be a European phenomenon.

UK, Ireland / Warning to British people visiting Poland!! Don't get drunk and smash the place up! [447]

Haha, you actually googled "organ harvesting poland" because of that post? Did you search for baby smuggling too? I bet you have a weird search history :)

Seriously though, there was a recent case in which Ambulance personnel got sentenced for finishing people of by putting them to sleep (permanently) for their organs, elderly for the most part.

No link, though it was quite prominent in the Media at the time about 7 months back or so on TVN.

garmmar nazi

you've got me, I'am to slow for these forums i write before i think. The reason for the slow re- population is partly due to the poor fertility of the highlands.

Keep in mind that off topic posts will be binned.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

I hate that we don't have a Government, just a Mafia. The Tusku clone being it's face.

One thing i hate is how Poles dump on their present gov. have you seen the qualifications of some of the ministers. Take the finance minister Rostowski, or the foreign minister Skiorski for instance. Read their about them on wiki or gov website, and i challenge you to find better qualified gov people anywhere else in Europe.

History / WAS KATYƃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

MareGaea
they tried to eliminate its entire Intelligentsia, surely that is bad enough. By targeting a certain group of people because of their station in life and eliminating them for that reason is surely genocide.
