Life / Horribly cold in Krakow at the moment , how do you cope with such temperatures ? [124]

I really do hope so, because I'm going to climb on some small mountain during the weekend and get seriously drunk over there...

Ehhh you, who live in Krakow or Wroclaw are lucky to have mountains so near. I'm from Poznan and have to spend hours to get there. And to get to Bieszczady, which I like the most, it's 13 hours in a car :/

About the weather forecast, I don't believe them. :))

History / remember, forget, forgive, blame ... Holocaust Memorial Day in Poland [229]

oh, so it's Versaille that's responsible for Holocaust? That's something new.....

Versaille was one of the reasons why Hitler came to power. After Versaille the situation in Germany was horrible. People had no job, no food, no money. Instead of this they had crazy inflation (for 1 kilo of potatoes they paid 5,000,000 of marks!), world crisis and no industry. Germans was desperated and that's why Hitler, which was the populist, was so popular. Most of Germans voted for Hitler not because they were Nazis but because they were hopeless and he gave them a chance to change something. So, partly, Versaille was responsibled for WWII.

Life / You are Polish if... [433]

i live in Poeland, i've been to the UK only once and for short time. i don't have much contact with English, especially spoken English. but none of my English teachers(all were Polish) ever taught me the correct pronounciation of words

In high school we used to call our English teacher "Mazerowa" cause she pronounced "mother", "father", "sister" like "mazzzer", "fazzzzer" and "ziizzter" ;)

Life / Do Polish people help one another? [40]

yes, they can lend you some thought, according to their qualifications or interests, but in my opinion they seem to be less practical in helping people the practical way

You really want to generalize something that can't be generalized. Are people from Gdynia helpfull ?:)

Life / Do Polish people help one another? [40]

or maybe how well they want to know you? if they're curious about getting to know someone? on the other hand it's difficult to get to know a stranger in poland

If you are talking about helping strangers on the street that it has nothing to do with knowing them. It's natural we help our family, friends, neighbours etc.

Most of Poles are distrustfull and maybe that's the problem.

History / Can Poland allow itself to refuse Slavija? [32]

Also, with or without Russia as member of Slavic Confederation, Warsaw still can be capital.

Is Warsaw as a capital so important to you ? What would be better: part of something or a capital of nothing?

I can't imagine Poland and Russia in one Conferedation. 71% of Russians are considered themselves as Asians not Europeans and I think that you overestimate "Slavic blood" :) There are far more different reasons that determined our "membership" to Eurabia or Slavija than language or history.

And what's Slavija for you? Because I think we had something alike between 1955 and 1991 ... :) And it didn't work.

You think that poor Warsaw can be capital of your imagined Slavija and call me crazy :))) I like fantasy literature but this is to much even for me :))

Language / Slovio - the international simplified Slavic language [37]

Other Venetic Slavs have migrated westwards to central Italy, where they have been known as the Etruskans, the founders of Rome.

I loooove this site ! It's like reading Tolkien ;)
If I were you I wouldn't believe everything in Internet :)

Slavio language is a beautyfull thing but don't you think we have our common language ? It's called vodka :) In that language you can come to agreement with every nationality, included Germans ;)

Work / Moving to Krakow from London, worrying about finding a job [16]

...depends, do you look like a protestant?

What the protestant looks like ???

The CIRA didnt order the murder of any Poles.

Do not listen that. You are welcome in Krakow :) But I'm afraid you will have to be a teacher in the beginning unless you are working in IT.

Life / Who's the best looking (and acting/singing) celebrity in Poland? [32]

Oh, but it's natural for the first lady. In fact it's her obligation. On the other hand it's very difficult when some people compair her to Jolanta Kwasniewska: younger, nicer, etc.

I can't say I like her but I respect her. She has hard role to play, especially with weird family ;)

Travel / Best Easter Eggs in Warsaw? [9]

You have to wait till March and then you can buy it in supermarkets. But don't expect there will be real chocolate eggs like you say. They will be rather smaller and just chocolate without filling. Sorry in Poland we prefer real eggs with glair and yolk ;)

Life / Proper dose of life in Poland... the harsh realities. [64]

i dont like to witness injustices and i see a lot of it around here.

Did you know that 1/3 of Polish employees work on 2/3 of Polish people which are unemployed (pensioners, privileged groups, unemployed) ? This IS the most unjust society in Europe.

But I have one question. Every time I see you, you moan. Is that makes you feel better ?

News / Did you know that Polish army is the weakest in Central Europe?.. [150]

Yeah...in 1 week in Moscow AND Berlin!!! ;)

Actually we have been in Moscow already and we didn't need tanks. After the death of Ivan IV Poles went to Moscow and said that they have found the lost son of Ivan. And ... they believed us (!). So some Polish yokel really has been the tzar of Russia for a few weeks. Now one of the most important day in Russia is the day of expel Poles from Moscow :))

Food / Traditional Polish Soups. [74]

Seanus: Apparently there is a soup made from nails here, anybody heard of that?

Soup from nails = soup from nothing. It's a compliment for a very good cook :)

History / Why did Hitler kill so many Jews in Poland? [261]

Wroclaw Boy: Was it because they flourished in business?

No.

Wroclaw Boy: Was it because they had power in central Europe?

No.

Wroclaw Boy: Was it because they (so called) murdered Christ?

No.

Wroclaw Boy: Was it personal vendetta?

In some way.

It's very helpful to have a scapegoat when you are a populist like Hitler. Jews hadn't any power in Central Europe, especially in Poland when we had Aszkenazi's Jews (very religious and orthodox). The reason why Hitler picked up Jews instead of Poles or Frenchs was the Jews were very "visible" in social life. Before the war nearly 30 % of Polish people weren't actually Polish. Can you imagine? They were mostly Jews, Ukrainians, Germans, Russians or they came from some ethnic minorities like Kaszebians, Silesians, Mazurians, Lemkows etc.

It's sad but the idea of Holocaust came from sick mind of one man.

I don't want to insult you but don't you have some history books in country you come from ?

Wawel: I do not buy the theory that it is because Poles are anti-semitic

But you have to agree that Poles were anti-semitic before the war.

Your theory is very reliable.
