History / Poland's General Anders and one of the biggest "What Ifs?" of WW2 [31]

Sorry mate thats just the Western version of history for idiots like you, go read on T-34/85 as compared to Pz IV, IS-2, IS-3, KV series and more, Soviet tanks were better on every possible field, the only issue was crew training, because Soviets had so many tanks they did not train their crews much.

King Tiger was still cutting edge until the 1970's

Which proves he was as much into sci-fi as you are, go check when the third nuke was constructed.

when did they drop the first 2??? After Berlin fell!

Their military commitment was about 1/5th of the Soviet military commitment, your point is?

That was a quote from churchill - just an indication of his mind set

Russians were tired of war but if Stalin did order it they'd roll all over Germany, American and British forces, occupy France and then skullfvck UK with carpet bombings untill Brits themselves gave Moscow Churchill gift wrapped with capitulation terms shoved in his arse.

did they have nukes?? case closed!

Besides by that period most of Soviet equipment was better then both German and Western ones.

The German tanks outclass their Soviet counterparts, the Soviets just had massive numbers.

Churchill was for the idea, and commented along the lines of we'll nuke their cities until they fall into line. (They = Russians)

The initial primary goal of the operation was declared as follows: "to impose upon Russia the will of the United States and the British Empire. Even though `the will' of these two countries may be defined as no more than a square deal for Poland, that does not necessarily limit the military commitment."

He wanted to arm German POW's too - quite surreal - occupiers becoming liberators within a matter of months.

one sentence out of context by the man who didn't run Polish diplomacy or government prove exactly nothing.

Marshal of Poland, Polish political figure, Commander-in-Chief of Poland's armed forces, and a painter and poet. After many earlier successes as an army commander during the Polish-Soviet War, Rydz succeeded Józef Piłsudski as General Inspector of the Armed Forces in 1935. Source Wiki.

Obviously a very insignificant man - how foolish of me to have brought it up.

It was at a public speech whilst inspecting Polish troops, didn't he realise the Neonazi's were listening and would be posting it on websites in 70 years time!!

This quote floates around the neonazi sites to prove we started WWII along with "Judea declares war on Germany."

The Daily Mail and Telegraph aren't neonazi as far as I'm aware. Besides if it is a quote and on neonazi sites so what?? It's still a quote and therefore indicative of the man's sentiment. If the phrase was never used - it's an entirely different matter.

With reference to the other point - did Polish forces ever enter lands that the Russians considered theirs??? I believe that'll be a yes!! Fairing quite admirally as well by all accounts!

So if you play big boys games, you play by big boys rules.

I didn't state Polish people brought Communism on themselves, that the leaders did.

Like the leaders in the UK have made us a target for every nut job with a Koran.

I wouldn't call it a normal Polish behaviour. She's definitely not a well-educated person. How about her family, are they the same (I'm guessing they are)?

She really well educated, currently studying for a doctorate.

Family - mum and dad, sister, brother seem ok - but obviously not spent as much time with them.

Kids - IMHO - are monsters and very rude

This is described as normal polish behaviour and i am getting offended because of cultural differences.

In reality, I think she left home when she was young, raised the kids on her own, so she was basically a kid raising kids, so no adult values to pass down to them as she had none.

You, having travelled widely should know that in Europe anyone, regardless of which country thay come from, who doesn't know the word 'thank you' is a brute that should be circled widely.

To be honest, this is why I posted.

I wanted feed back from Polish members as to whether or not this was normal Polish behaviour, which is what she explains it as.

Apart from a stay in Wroclaw about 7 years ago (apparently there was a fair amount of trouble in the city with stag parties and drunk Brits) I've found Polish people polite and friendly enough on a casual basis.

The truth of the matter is the UK was not a major player at the end of World War 2, our empire was crumbling and we'd been bankrolled during the war by the Americans, who had no stomach for fighting the Russians.

Were we really expected to confront Russian on our own?

If the Poles are going to lay the blame at anyone's door maybe they should look at their own leaders and their forays into Russia - if you keep poking a dog with a stick eventually it's going to bite you.

couldn't give a hang about what was in the Polish interest

Old post i know but....

Churchill's plan to liberate Poland from the Russians was called Operation Unthinkable British Troops were instructed to stockpile weapons to rearm German POW's for the invasion.

Yes, he was quite mad.

So why the "I hope you are rich" comment?

I had seen the commercial, which I found mildly amusing and certainly nothing to complain about.

As I stated earlier, my opinion (which I am free to state - this being a country that believes in free speach) is based on my experiences. It might not be an accurate representation of a whole nation of people but neverless it is based upon my experiences.

Surely a more constructive stance from Poles would feel they are not rude would be stating something along the lines of "you're right, that was rude" or "we aren't all like that" or to explain your culture in some way? Instead of jumping up and down feeling vitimized or abusing me and questioning my level of eduation.

I hope you are rich.

My comment was directed at the Mayor who had obviously had a sense of humour bypass, until it dawned on him "hang on" there's coin to be made from this.

If this is directed at me, you are sadly mistaken.

Speaking of a sense of humour - In order to get his bank loan, John Cleese had to pretend he was Polish, and claimed that his aunt came from the small southern town of Pcim, which is on the road to the Zakopane ski resort from Kraków. The result? An outcry by Pcim’s mayor, who failed to see the humour in the joke. But after consulting with some PR agents, the mayor U-turned on his accusations and now Pcim wants to use Cleese’s image to promote the small town, with a slogan stating ‘Thanks for remembering us – Your aunt from Pcim.’

Apparently you can buy a sense of humour!

You haven't had statistics and probability in school yet, I suppose. That comes at higher levels of education if you chose to continue. Highly recommended.

I'm well educated and familiar with the concept of statistics, but thanks for the assumption! In a debate concerning manners, politeness etc I found it ironic that someone would resort to profanity. Maybe that's simply because he lacks the capacity to contribute anything. Hence my tongue in cheek comment.

I understand that Polish people are straight forward that's not the issue, possessing above average intelligence I'm able to separate straight forwardness from manners. I've travelled widely and experienced a number of different cultures and I can honestly say that my opinion of Polish people is that they lack manners, and opinions are cultivated by experiences. I used an example to illustrate my point i.e. a family being invited for a meal and none of them offering a word of thanks but I could have used others. I have never experienced this with any other culture, it gives the impression of arrogance and that the invitation was simply expected.

Absolutely. My girlfriend is Polish and she and her kids are completely lacking in basic manners, for instance if we are invited out for a meal they simply eat and leave. No thank you's, no see you soon, they just feed their faces, invariably turning their noses up at anything which isn't meat or potato, and leave.
