Calendars in FRANCE (as well as many other European nations) do the same. The first day is Monday, the last day is Sunday. This isn't unique to Poland.

We can't use barley because it has gluten. I'm going to try quinoa. Thanks for the responses.

How strange/unusual would it be to make kutia with millet instead of wheatberries? I have to make it gluten free and I don't want to always use rice. I think I can use quinoa, too, but I'd like to use millet. How about kasha? Can kutia be made with kasha, too?

I don't know, but I had two friends from China years ago who wouldn't think of eating any food that wasn't Chinese. They were even racist about it, saying how superior a race they were . . . yada, yada, yada. I ended the friendship.
