Work / Taxes in Poland if working for American company? [12]

Thanks! This is what I assumed too, although I've read on multiple sites that in the case of invoicing a company outside of Europe, (they are first sending me money and later I'm giving an invoice) I need to state that the VAT charge is on them which I'd rather not do. I don't want to make them concerned.

Working remotely in Poland for a US company

Hi, I was wondering if anyone works remotely in Poland for a US company? I've been in touch with a few different tax advisors, but it would be good to talk to someone in a similar boat.

I have a few questions but the biggest one right now concerns VAT. It's still not clear to me if my employer would need to pay the American version of VAT.

I'd love to hear from anyone in a similar situation!

Law / Certificate of no impediment - Single Status - UK Getting Married in Poland [24]

Merged:What has to be written where it says ' place of marriage ' on a certificate of no impediment?

Hi, I am getting married in Poland this year. I am going to get my CONI in England next week and they have told me that I need to ask the people in Poland what has to be written in "Place of marriage". They said that it's Poland's decision whether it be for example the town "Stary Targ" or the actual address of the church. Has anyone had any experience of this? I am going there later today to ask them, but just in case they are not sure exactly, I thought I'd ask here. Also, if someone does have experience of this, was just telling them in England enough? Or did you need some kind of document to prove that Poland said this is what they want on the CONI? Thanks

Language / Żelfix po Angielsku? [2]

I have a Polish cake recipe which requires żelfix and I am in England at the moment. Does anyone know what this is in English? The recipe says to add four packs of żelfix which seems a little excessive? I just need it to keep the double cream firm on my trzybit. Maybe icing sugar?

Language / Collection of learning resources for learning the Polish language [129]

Has anyone ever looked at the book 'Polish verbs and essentials of grammar second edition'? I'm not sure if I should buy it or not. I looked at the first few pages on the amazon website but it looks very similar to this website that i have seen before. Does anyone know if it is the same?

Travel / What is the ugliest city or town in Poland? [89]

Take a look at Malbork (not the castle) as an example of ugly polish towns!

agree about Malbork, the town is a hell hole

Can I ask when was the last time you visited Malbork? I live about 10 mins away from there and it's not ugly in my opinion, it has changed A LOT in recent years and has improved a great deal

Language / "Hilarious" Mistakes? (Esp. Across Polish and other Slavic Languages) [70]

Why are you feeling so disheartened because one person politely corrected you about pan/pani? You can't think too much or definitely be that sensitive about it. I have seen a lot of posts from you lately and it's very obvious that you want to learn and this is the most important. With some enthusiasm that I have seen from your other posts you will learn quickly, especially if you are in Poland now or am I incorrect? Even in this thread people are talking about mistakes that they have made when speaking to Polish people and as far as I can see nobody has had a rude or angry response...or maybe someone has?

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Thanks for the advice, I have spoken with my boss and understand the situation a bit better now. I was also wondering what is the best way to advertise myself for private lessons? My boss said that i could put a sign up in the school, but only after she has given me as many hours and she thinks she can. Any suggestions?

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

So another bump in the road has appeared it seems. I will have my first private lesson soon and the student will have one hour with my boss and the second hour with me, so the lessons will be at the school. I had already given the price as 40zł for 45 mins and was told yesterday by my boss that the student will pay 50zł - 40 for me and then 10 "for the room". I was previously thinking to offer 50zl, but now that is going to be too expensive because in actual fact the student would pay 60zl. Travelling to their homes is an option, but I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what they think about it. She is my boss and if she wants to charge for the room when nobody is using them anyway (She rents three rooms for the month) there is nothing I can do about it. Or should I try to talk to her about it and find out if she is also charging extra for the room with her private lessons or just mine?

Work / Advice on Teaching English in Poland [709]

Hi, I'm an English native speaker who has been living in Poland since January and teaching since September. I will start arranging private lessons soon, but am unsure of what to charge. My employer who is Polish charges 40zl per 45 mins and has suggested that I should charge more because I'm a native speaker. However, I would like to offer 40zl per 45 mins because I feel a higher price for my services at this time is unjustified. I would be grateful for some advice on what other English native speakers think about my situation. I am working in a small town and for now I am just working 2 days a week, so choosing the right price to offer is important. Too expensive and there is a chance I could drive people away. My employer has suggested that I charge more because in the future it will be difficult to change which I understand, but I'm still not sure what to do.

Law / Being taxed as an EU citizen (when working in Poland)? [7]

I have heard something about the 183 day thing, but I haven't signed an official contract yet so I cannot be sure 100% of my hours, but I will have maybe 20 hours a month. The contract will be for at least one year.

Law / Being taxed as an EU citizen (when working in Poland)? [7]

Can someone explain to me how does this work? I'm from the UK and I will start work here in Poland in September. I called the local tax office and they said I need to go to Gdańsk to register myself but I won't be taxed by the Polish Government. Instead I need to inform the English government that I am working here and THEY will tax me. How does this make any sense? Am I going to be taxed an insane amount?

News / Dumbing-down in Polish schools and the Matura [185]

She told me that even after one thorough tense review with me, she had learned more than most of the year with her Polish teacher

That's impressive :) Can I ask how you learned to explain things? Through pure practice? Your own thoughts or books? I'm just wondering because I may have a job in a private language school soon and any advice would be appreciated

Language / Need Advice On Polish-English language barrier (my Polish boyfriend and his family) [59]

English is the universal language and i believe everyone (no matter where the heck u are) should at least make an effort.

Are you saying that people should make an effort if an English person suddenly becomes part of their lives? Or just in general everyone in the world should make an effort to learn English?

Thanks for your reply, however I was under the impression that in some schools a CELTA certificate would be enough or is this wrong?

Are most English teachers in Poland teaching high school students? What about younger children? Primary age? Is that an option and if yes what are the qualifications?

Life / Expats, are you happy with your life in Poland? [43]

I moved to Poland not so long ago and live with my boyfriend in his parents house, with quite a few other family members. It has not been easy and my life here is completely different to the one I had in England, in so many ways. No one ever said it would be easy, but I made the decision and things get better as time goes on. Just the only difficulty is finding a job and I don't want to teach English

UK, Ireland / Why are Polish people, especially women, so disrespectful toward the English? [316]

I know quite a few polish people and have never felt disrespected. The polish people that i know welcome me into their home, are always happy to help me improve my polish, invite me into their conversations and a couple of them have become good friends and are two of the nicest people i have met. just my observation.

Love / English girl moving to Poland with my Polish boyfriend for the first time [69]

hmm, i'm in a similar situation. I just got back from my first visit to poland recently and i had an amazing time. The people that i came across were friendly and helpful. The town was lovely and there was a real sense of tradition which was nice, but of course you cannot judge a country on a weeks holiday ;) good luck to you
