Law / A parent born in Poland. Obtaining a Polish birth certificate? [38]

I am inclined to say that, since modern-day Poland did not exist until 1918, you are unfortunately out-of-luck.

However, that your father served in the Polish Army during WWII certainly puts an interesting spin on things.

This is a physical and practical impossibility.

News / THE ARMY OF POLAND - THE REALITY [493]

You are advocating war, richasis?

Oh gosh, heavens no, Seanus ... that was my (now obvious to me) failed attempt at 'sarcasm'.

My point was that however unfortunate it would be for Poland to start a war it could not finish
(in theory), it is more unfortunate that it's helping to fight a war it didn't even start (in reality).

My sarcasm can be a bit wry plain-spokenly; I may do well to refrain from it altogether, textually.

Ideally, the United States will start the wars and Polish soldiers will fight them with her.

Language / IS "MURZYN" word RACIST? [686]

Murzyn would usually be black man in predominantly white society whereas bialas would be white man in predominantly white society...

Right, and seeing as though Poland is a predominantly White society and Murzyn is a Polish word, it's all good.

:)

USA, Canada / Why are Polish Americans mocked in the American media? [226]

Whenever I meet a person from Chicago and they find out that I am a Pole, they always tell me that there is a huge Polish population in Chicago.

Even Poles residing in Poland will concede that Chicago is the capital of Poland :)

Go to your promised land man, I was there with my parents and couldn't wait to leave it behind me.

I have friends who moved to Poland only to return to the States after a few years.
As for me, I am under no illusions - living in Poland will in no way be like 'visiting' it.

I do know one thing: there are Poles who would gladly take my spot here in the US.

^ "Sticks and stones may break my bones, and you are one dumb Polack" - Archie Bunker to Mike Stivic.

Of course the ultimate irony is that, when it all is said and done, the stupid libtard had it coming to him :)

Most of us have indeed moved on but there is a cottage industry that is determined to keep black historical grievance alive for their benefit today.

It thinks it's more than just a 'cottage industry' - what's more, I think it's all contrived.

Right.. and you're leaving the US when? You leave you'll be back in 2 years tops. Cut the crap.

Nah, I've had enough of teaching grade school curriculum to college freshmen.

You're just leeches looking for money anyway.

What? From the greatest debtor nation in history who lives off China's bank?
Besides, 'money' is America's only way to 'win friends and influence enemies'.

This, from the nation who brought us TARP (AKA 'The Jobless Recovery Act').

Who, in most cases are just as racist as any American ever dreamed of being.

Any? Statistically, most racist Americans are her beloved minorities.

Why don't you talk about what your fellow Europeans say about you?

You mean, outside of the fact they are usually correct?

I never let my being 'American' keep me blind to her in-your-face realities.

And this is why Poland should never relay on America when her security is at stake. It would be much better for Poland to improve relations with Russia rather than antagonizing Russians by inviting Americans to Poland.

I couldn't agree more with what you've said here (I was born and raised in 'America'). When I leave for Poland, I may not return here - not even to visit.

It's even worse than all this. The "News" Media won't report the race of a criminal when the perp is black.

Unless, and until, they absolutely have to - even then they are hard-pressed to do so:
news-gazette.com/news/courts-police-and-fire/2010-09-28/former-tv-weatherman-victim-unprovoked-attack.html

"The 50-year-old former weatherman for WILL-TV and, before that, WCIA-TV, is among the latest in a growing list of white men in town being slugged for sport by young black men. (Earlier reports indicated a slang term of "polar bear hunting" for these attacks, but police officials say that term is not evident in the recent attacks.)"

Yeah, right.

Yawwwn... who gives a flying f.uck?

Not tired Americans in their twilight, that's for sure.

Polish pope

While I can't speak for the entire USA, the old adage (to express a negative) "Is the Pope Polish?" was common where I grew up.

John Paul II certainly changed all that. The adage came into immediate disuse after his 'ascension' to Pope (for obvious reasons).

I personally like listening to Conservative American Jews

Me too. I also like N. Chomsky and N. Finkelstein.

S'tupid topic. Total BS. How are they mocked than any other group?

Gee, I guess your experiences speak for those of others.

Italian American Groups have protested the portrayal of Italians

There was some of that during 'The Godfather' - Meyer 'Lansky' Suchowljanski and Benjamin 'Bugsy Siegel' Siegelbaum are not exactly Italian names.

Off-Topic / What's your connection with Poland? Penpals. [574]

Why many Poles? It is said that majority of Detroit citizen where from the south states.

Poles (amongst other Europeans) actually did primarily settle parts of cities like Detroit, etc.:

Poletown is a section of Detroit, Michigan bordering the enclave city of Hamtramck, Michigan.
The area was named after the Polish immigrants who originally lived in the area (from 1870)...
freeway construction and urban renewal projects destroyed the neighborhood (like so many).

I like (Democrat stronghold) Detroit: it's ex-mayor is a convicted felon and its school board head is an illiterate.

Best of all is the real estate: dirt cheap prices make for a great opportunity to experience its multicultural flair.

That said, many Poles (and other European ethnics) have fled the area to live their 'racist' lives elsewhere ...

US GOV'T: REGULAR MARIJUANA USE HELPS TO PREVENT SOME FORMS OF CANCER.

We SHOULD legalize marijuana, however that will probably never happen because the feds would have no way of controlling it.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic, but here's a story that was published at about the time of this thread:

If Pot Prevented Cancer You Would Have Read About It, Right?

Two just-published studies assessing adults' risk of cancer have reported wildly divergent, and fairly extraordinary, outcomes. One study you may have read about. The other has been ignored entirely by the mainstream media. But no doubt the results of both will surprise you.

First, the study you may have heard of. Writing August 3 in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, investigators at McGill University in Montreal reported that moderate alcohol consumption -- defined as six drinks or fewer per week -- by adults is positively associated with an elevated risk of various cancers, including stomach cancer, rectal cancer, and bladder cancer.

And now for the study you haven't heard of. Writing in the August issue of the journal Cancer Prevention Research, investigators from Rhode Island's Brown University, along with researchers at Boston University, Louisiana State University, and the University of Minnesota reported that lifetime marijuana use is associated with a "significantly reduced risk" of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
