I don't need a definition, as exact as it may be. I have visited a 3rd world country, have seen what's it's like with my own eyes, have spoken to the locals personally and let me tell you Poland is not a 3rd world country. Those who say it is are lucky to not know what they are talking about.
I think some of you are losing the plot and have never visited a 3rd world country either.

“We have a sacred duty to remember the twisted thinking that led here — how a great society of culture and science succumbed to the worst instincts of man and rationalized mass murder and one of the most barbaric acts in history,” Mr. Obama said.
Mr. Obama also thanked Polish leaders and the people “for preserving a place of such great pain for the Polish people, but a place of remembrance and learning for the world.”

By the way, Germans killed 75,000 Poles in Auschwitz.
It a shame you didn't watch TVP1 today - the ceremonies on the 65th anniversary of Auschwitz liberation would have made you feel very, very uncomfortable.

Well....most of the jobs were actually done by either voluntarily or forced natives. Most Germans besides the Einsatzgruppen acted more as planners, organizers and overseers.
Without the more or less enthusiastic groundwork in those countries where most of the Jews lived it could never have been done so "successfully"...

It would be good if they also knew Latin declensions, French conjugation, econometrics and quantum physics. LOL
Maybe I couldn't read when I was five, but today I read, speak & write in 3 languages.
They include literacy requirements that 5 year olds should: readily use written language in their play and learning.

this doesn't mean we are a third world country and definitely does not reply to the question if you were to compare PL and Ethiopia, would you find it similar. If you would, than I reckon that this is because you've never been to a 3rd world country.

I get the impression that many Poles have been coming back home lately. I see them a lot in my work, in my home town.
A couple of years ago you only heard stories about ppl leaving and now you hear more and more about ppl coming back.

Your thread sounds like a statement how Polish education and qualifications are worth nothing at all, since even PL lawyers are menial cleaners. If you read through the posts, you will see that everybody else understood it the way I did.
Maybe next time you should be more clear in your threads/posts in order to not be misunderstood.

There is not enough jobs for people educated in the same fields as one another.
Employment is bought with bribes.
When there is a closed-shop. ( employment given to family/friends, regardless of qualifications ).

neither am I. I am Polish myself and know a little bit more Polish people than 3 acquaintances and two friends.
oh I have gone and seen for myself. I lived in Brussels for over 5 years and had enough time and occasions to go visit them in London, Rotterdam and Brussels. They do not work as cleaners, I am sorry to disappoint you. Some of them even run their own business. Imagine that Georgie - a Pole running his own business abroad, unheard of!

It's a good idea for any one who's going to settle abroad. Speaking the language or at least knowing some basics makes things much easier.

Totally agree. I appreciate foreigners who make an effort to learn my language. It always puts a smile on my face to hear Polish spoken with a foreign accent :)

I advise any one thinking of moving to Poland to live/work to try learning a little before you arrive.

Thanks bullfrog. I worked for a big multinational in Brussels and nobody there questioned my Polish qualifications. It's the same for my PL friends working in London. But apparently, Georgie knows better.
Polish qualifications are good/very good, and are starting to be recognozed outside of Poland. In the (multinational) company I work for, we go regularly on Polish campuses to hire Polish graduates not only for our Polish operations but also for London , Paris, New York...
