Life / Things that annoy you in Poland. [114]

because we drive carefully

You cannot drive faster simply because you're towing your caravan all the time... ;-)

When Poland was partitioned, in the Prussian Patrition Poles were not allowed to own houses

That's nonsense.

vetala

You're talking about the Prussian settlement commision. Straight from the source you provided:

"The Commission was empowered to purchase vacant property..."

You see the words "purchase" and "vacant"?

That Poles were not allowed to own property is not true, Vetala.

You said "When Poland was partitioned, in the Prussian Patrition Poles were not allowed to own houses". This is simply not true. You generalize.

Don't be childish.

Give me a link that clearly shows that Poles were not allowed to own the houses they were living in.

the ban on building of houses

Doesn't prove that Poles in general were not allowed to own the houses they were already living in. Being banned to build a new home is a different story.

so really, no hard feelings

Don't worry - we are talking about something that happened over a hundred years ago. It's of historical interest, but that's about it.

I'm of Polish/German descent as well BTW, and I happen to have an original land record/ deed of my great-grandfather at home. He was Polish and bought a piece of land AND a house in the Poznan area in 1910. That's one reason why I kept insisting.

News / Is NORD STREAM dangerous for Poland's natural enviroment? [372]

2009 is more similar to 1939 than you like to acknowledge

To imply that a simple business deal is comparable to the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact is nonsense, IMHO. We are talking about the delivery of oil, not about a military attack on Poland.

USA, Canada / To move back to Poland from the USA or not to move back....that is the question [119]

the thought of living the "American-dream" for the next 50 years is horrendous

That's a normal thought almost everybody has shortly before entering the rat race. If I were you I would take a year off and travel around the world. Enjoy life to the fullest and then come back. On the long run work sucks anyway - no matter where you live.

Love / Berlin vs Poznan - fashion of Polish women [36]

When moving back to Berlin full of german freaks with piercings, stockings under shorts and cut socks, the perversion hits again

If you can't handle western society, why don't you live in the redneck parts of Poland you so much adore?

In Poland the only ones who have rights are the drinker and the feker so you enjoy unlimited freedom

Depends on how many drinkers and fekers you have... ;-)

Polonia / Poland and France cultures are similar [112]

The army didn't get crushed by the Germans alone

Poland was defeated, destroyed, humiliated, whatever you want to call it. What does it matter by whom?

Polonia / Poland and France cultures are similar [112]

yes it matters to me

In what way? Do you feel better if you can say "not only the Germans occupied my country and killed my folk, but the Russians did, too?". The outcome is the same, no matter what. I don't get it, sorry.

Polonia / Poland and France cultures are similar [112]

it was even 3 vs one

Who was the third one?

That Poland itself is blameless for what happened

That Poland got attacked is not the country's fault, of course not.

...then the theory of communist Poles that it was all becaouse of the government at that time

You're telling me that the Polish communists after the war argued that the attack on Poland was the fault of the pre-war government? Do you have links? I never heard about that.

USA, Canada / Cigarettes reach nine dollars a pack in New York [82]

and the junk food prices sky high

Here in the US junk food is everywhere as you know. Just browse a random food aisle of your local Safeway: hydrogenated vegetable oils everywhere, trans fats, corn syrup, and so on. All the crap that makes you fat first and kills you later. You can't increase prices on all those products, as they are so widespread.

You can tax junk food easily...

In theory... . I would love to see all those lobbyists of the food industry scream if someone would try. A longer shelf life and higher profits have always been more important than a few million people killed by trans fats for example.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Seanus
Quote Wikipedia:
"...any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such..."

You imply that the Soviets wanted to exterminate the Poles as a national group. Was that really their intent in Katyn?

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

We probably have to go with what the common understanding of a genocide is: something unspeakable like the Holocaust, Cambodia, Rwanda or Darfur with an extremely high number of civilian victims.

History / WAS KATYŃ GENOCIDE? Polish officers were killed [237]

Well, they killed more than most mass murderers combined

That's true. If you think about it, the mind boggles indeed.

You sir are an anti-Polish idiot

Get used to it that there are plenty of people out there who do not share your distorted view of history, man! And stop behaving like a 10 year old brat.

It doesnt need to be murder of all Poles just any group based on their ethnicity

Then the killing of a group of ten people would be genocide. That's nonsense, and you know it.
