To get a job.

Polish is spoken by circa 40 million people around the globe. English is spoken by billions.

50 million
As first language: 309-400 million, as second language: 199-1,400 million.
Overall: 500 million-1.8 billion

I was out by ten million, big deal.

In the general scheme of things, Polish is a rather useless language for native english speakers unless they plan to relocate to Poland.

Not only are we supporting 10% of a country's population (yes folks, >10% of Mexico's population live in the US illegally!) now because of it many jobs require we speak their language.

The EU is on the verge of doing away with visa restrictions on Turkish citizens. Their GNP is less than that of Mexico. Theres 70 million of them.

Give me the Mexicans anyday over the poles and turks.

Really there is a lot to be done. But no one seems to be interested in it.

Operate a work permit scheme and hire more employment inspectors. The skilled Polish have nothing to worry about as they will gain a permit relatively easily.

Its much easier to blame Polish workers. Their only crime was that when offered a job - They accepted it.

What would happen if millions of Brits and Paddies went over to Poland and started undercutting the locals?

Today the situation is that average employer can save a lot of money by ie employ some Polish and deny them the paid Holiday. Even if the employer would be cached and fined (about £1500) - it' still worth the risk!

Bollocks. The current policy of open borders is economically insane.

This is from an Irish perspective but no doubt the same rings true in the UK.

A FAS study over a year ago said that the average immigrant earned just €440 a week, therefore there is very little by way of income tax and as much of this income will go on staple food which is 0 VAT rated and transferred abroad the contribution in consumption taxes and the 'multiplier effect' is very much reduced.

Consider the thousands of teachers that have been taken on in our schools because of immigrant children and the additional cost of immigrant children over and above Irish children because of language support. Then add in the health costs, justice (something like 1/3rd of the prison population are foreigners, mostly eastern europeans). Then look at the economic activity of immigrants. Last week, the CSO said that foreigners were 19.1% of those in receipt of benefits and that figure is rising month on month, I have no doubt it will break 25% next year. Then add in the Childrens Allowances, Rent Supplements, all the other benefits etc etc.

I meant workers not you.

The sole purpose of the British government is to provide for its citizens, not eastern euros, not africans, not asians. Just its own citizens.

Its an election year and mass immigration is a big issue so we will see what transpires.

We did in the 80s. Then millions more came expecting the same again. No, wait in line and do it the legal way like everyone else does.

I really dont want to get into this as I like Americans, but technically, they are indigenous to parts of the USA.

Just a thought: What if the cutting costs by employing the immigrants is the only way to stay in business? Either immigrants or closure. If you didn't notice - It's a crisis (depression) time.

Slash the welfare state and there is no need for unskilled immigrants.

I'm sure this is being blown out of proportion and there's more to the story than being reported.

Try a google search. Its a regular occurance at this stage.

Due to Polands dangerously low birth rate, Poland is going to get lashed out of it with mass immigration in the not so distant future. Gonna be interesting to say the least.

What about Browns "British jobs for British workers" statement?

Somebody needs to buy him a map of the world.

As far as I can tell, this company is happy with Polish workers and wants more of them so it offers training in Polish and does not seek out other nationalities very much. Demand, meet supply.

Ok, so you think the company has the right to operate outside the law. Sound.

Should the British people not be asked for their opinion on the current colonisation of their country? Referendum, meet democracy.

Who is this character?

Helena Danielczuk, who works for Bradford mental health charity Sharing Voices, said she had been approached by more than a dozen Eastern European workers who lost their jobs at Forza.

She said: 'They have to work for an unbroken 12 months otherwise they are unable to claim Jobseeker's Allowance. Some of them are destitute.' The charity has called for financial support for migrant workers left without work because of the fire.

So, she wants the Brits to cough up more cash to people who paid phuc all into the system? Surely its upto the Polish embassy to supply them with a ticket home?

We have "cultural enrichers" like her over here too. We have a phucing Slovak pushing for citizenship reform. Apparently, five years is to long of a wait for the bringers of "diversity" and "vibrancy".

In Ireland this changes when you are 24 and is made a lot easier if you have been on the dole for a long time. you should check out the details in Holland as I think they would be more helpful, they change depending on circumstances.

Bloody Fas courses? "How to turn on a computer".

I think countries should aspire to the Dutch model, not the other way around. The Dutch are one of the most educated, in the EU.

Your smarmy smug argument against education will be a delight, please continue.

They cancelled them in the budget, son. There are only 400 places.

I agree to a degree, education should be free and not just for some.

It is free, Sean.

It's a decent system, and if you're able to work for a longer period of time then there will be no problems whatsoever. I just need to find one employer who won't mind letting me work for atleast one year. (Which is a problem at the moment, because of the foreign competition.)

Are things that bad in the Netherlands? Whats the unemployment rate? Are you just fresh out of school and college?

They were. They elected a Labour government in 2001 which ratified Nice, and they were offered a referendum on Polish workers in 2005 - which again returned a Labour government.

Let's not forget that the last election of note, the 2007 Scottish Parliament election saw a clear return for pro-immigration parties.

Did any of the above outline their support of an open border immigration policy in their elecetion maifestos?

Each and every opinion poll conducted on the issue of immigration has shown us that the vast majority of people want a much, much more stringent policy. How many people voted for Labour in the hope of them opening their borders to the world and its mother?

This logic is warped. In the 50s people of my country elected a very conservative, pro Catholic political party. Does that mean they supported child abuse?

The UK parties all supported it in 2001 and 2005. Support for the EU was implicitly a vote in favour of Nice and thus EU expansion. Let's not forget that the UK (and Ireland) could quite easily have prohibited Polish workers from working in the UK - and still could, up until May 2011.

We rejected Nice 1. After that we were told that we were xenophobes and only 2,000 eastern euros would arrive per annum. Millions were spent on an advertising campaign depciting poor eastern europeans and for us to remember our history. Now, they said, it was our time to give. The EUnuchs pulled on the heart strings of the people, knowing quite well that we are one of the most charitable nations in the globe(we spend more on foreign aid, per capita, than any other nation. We donate more to charities, per capita, than any other nation.) Nice 2 barely scraped through. The turnout was down on the previous referendum, thus the EUnuchs won. Similar to Lisbon 2. Whats the point in voting, if your vote is ignored?

Put it to the people, ala Switzerland. Do you wish to leave the borders open to the citizens of the accession states or do you wish to see a work pernit scheme introduced.

We live in a democracy, right?

As for Scotland - pretty much all parties recognise that Scotland badly needs more immigrants to pay for an aging population. There was actually quite a big fuss because the UK government attempted to stop a Scottish initiative to attract more talented non-EU citizens.

Grand. When the immigrants age, who will pay their pensions? More immigrants?

Quite a few actually - who do you think many Guardian readers are voting for?

Actually, the last immigration poll conducted by the guardian showed us that their readers also support much stricter restrictions.

It's also worth noting that UK immigration is harder and harder these days for non-EU nationals. Even those from First World countries are finding it difficult.

I suggest you look up the numbers entering the country in 2009.

I don't know what to say to opinion polls - as far as I see it, people will often adopt a more dramatic tone in opinion polls, but then when it comes to the crunch, they won't vote for a party which promises to change things. Just look at the UKIP vote in the EU election vs the UKIP vote in UK elections!

Quite the oppossite. In todays PC world it is difficult for people to admit to the poll conducter that they want a restriction on immigration. People walk on egg shells in an attempt to avoid being labelled as a racist.

As I see it - 2010 is the perfect change for people to elect a government with a mandate to leave the EU. Will it happen? No chance.

The EU will be a distant memory in 25 years.

Actually - the way that they dealt with him was scandalous. But I suspect that while he would get away with it (and be applauded) in the UK, Europeans tend to expect their politicians to be more...political?

Like Sarko labelling the Irish people as "losers" and "silly" for rejecting the Liesbon treaty part un?

Real classy that.

It was an excellent rant though, and while I don't agree with his politics, he has a damn good point in that no-one had ever heard of him. Such is the nature of compromise, I guess.

"You seem to have a loathing for the very concept of the existence of nation states," "Perhaps that's because you come from Belgium, which is pretty much a non-country."

Thats not a rant. Thats comedy gold!

Let us look at a hypothetical scenario.

Imagine for a second that a British company advertised a job available only to British workers, what would happen?

Well I will tell you. The vast number of immigrant *quangos would be up in arms foaming at the gob and screaming racist.

*Just out of interest, how many immigrant quangos have you got in the UK? We have over 200, god alone knows how many you have!

History / Which nation were the biggest pussies of WWII? [120]

The Irish didnt do much did they? just kind of sat back quietly.

Wasnt our war. Why would we help the Brits? Twenty years previous they were raping and pillaging our towns and villages.

You were on the verge of famine, you were lucky we supplied you with food!

As for the Spanish, they were trying to recover after a devestating civil war.
