Work / What jobs pay 10,000 zlotych per month? and Where can i find one? :o) [101]

You can get a lot more than 10k. Join the world's biggest, oldest company and become a Catholic priest. Countless "moherowe berety (devout Catholic old ladies afraid of going to hell after a lifetime of petty theft, such as rifling your jacket when you use their toilet)" will fall over each other to give you their measly pensions of 3 groszies per year for a one-way entry through the pearly gates. As a bonus you'll be living in the Middle Ages, where the Church is always right and rules supreme, without the need for a time machine. Try expensive towns like Limanowa where the only attraction is the massive church right in the town centre's Rynek.

If it's good for you it's probably been made illegal, suddenly! So cook it while you can, smacznego.

News / What's the stupidest question asked about Poland? [414]

To JohnP: So you're American with Polish background? Pleased to meet you, Mr Kowalski (pron: ko-walls-key).
Some chick asked me if people have to walk around in snowshoes.
In India, few people heard of Poland, only Holland. When I sent someone in India a letter from "Poh Land with a p, not Holland with an H", a reply (eventually) arrived with the correct address on, except the country name: Switzerland. And it's always the same in India. You are asked "what is your country name" 8 billion times a day, you say "Poh Land" to make the pronounciation clear, and they still hear "Holland".

News / US to deploy Patriot missiles to Poland [404]

What "few" churches? They've been popping up like mushrooms, even faster than McDonald's, since JP2 came on the scene. Turn 'em into hospitals and schools I say. But how can you, with a dickhead puppet of the Vatican like Kaczyński, Tusk et al. And pope B16 (sounds like a Yankee missile in the Tatras) seems to be carrying on the business nicely.

Travel / Why does everyone seem to hate LOT Polish Airlines? [380]

Encouraged by their success in destroying Freddie Laker's airline, BA then went for Virgin as their next victim. In 1994, BA did its damndest to destroy LOT by not letting them land at UK airports. LOT responded in a similar vein and BA suddenly went all 'gentlemanly' again. BOYCOTT BA!

The missiles will ultimately be controlled by the US president who publicly stated he was born on the planet Krypton, not in a manger (infowars). I'd feel safer under Monty Python. Keep taking the tablets, Obama.

Life / 3 reasons why you hate Poland. [1049]

The one body that's got its act very well together is the Catholic Church (a.k.a. Krk). Who else can - or would - ban the film "RELIGULOUS" from the cinemas? Everything else is as well organised as a looneybin.

If you want something done (ie building or house repairs), it may as well be carried out by a Mexican snail on Valium with heart disease!

I've had much more stuff nicked in one year in Poland than in 20 in UK; and that by my own immediate family - PEASANTS!

On the positive side, there's (still) cheapISH beer and vodka (and lard!). If you're into eating pork (pigs have about 90% human genes), that's cheap too. Make the most of it; the prices will shoot up come the Euro.

Genealogy / What are common Polish character traits? [417]

I really like it when a Polish "builder" claims, when you ask him what he is skilled at, he'll usually say 'wszystko'. OK, let's see his pilot's licence, his gynaecologist's diplomas......

You're saying it's OK for USA and UK to have WMDs, but not who they decide is an 'enemy'? Funny how whatever 'enemy' it is, just happens to be sitting on oil.

Remember the Yankee attacks on the Balkans about 20 yerars ago? They have SOME oil, but not huge reserves like Iran has. Iran is next.
With all the technology and expertise USA has, they didn't manage to find WMDs? Come off it. And who put Saddam into power in the first place? USA.

Remember a Mr Kelly, the WMD expert? Funny how he took a walk down the road, and was found far off in the woods, having topped himself "because he couldn't stand the stress of being questioned". No-one to date has found WMDs in Iraq. That Hussein must have had magic powers to make them invisible.

Accept the fact that the real terrorists are in the White House and in Downing Street.

All in all, it strongly looks like JohnP is the end product of establishment brainwashing, and a CIA agent. Of course he'll deny every word of it.

2. Closemindedness(is that a word)

That's narrowmindedness. The Krk /Kościół rzymskokatolicki/ is responsible for Poland still being stuck in mediaeval times. They have made Poland a joke abroad. As for the bad economy, it's originally the red revenge at the end of the Communist era. They ensured that the Western system so long fought and desired for by the ordinary Polish people was the worst possible form. Their mindset was: "chciałeś, to masz!".

So, Polish Church and Polish politics; the combination of the current systems couldn't be worse for Poland.

At last, it looks like (hopefully) JohnP has woken up to the basic fact that we aren't as stupid as his establishment bosses hope we are. Hooray. Not even my cat believes the brainless fairy story that 9/11 wasn't an inside job.

Maybe this was already mentioned somewhere here but anyway:

1 - almost everyone chainsmokes
2 - almost everyone eats animals, especially pigs
3 - the place is under snow for 5 months of the year

Life / Ripped Off in Poland? - Expose here: [185]

Not only me but some of my friends have been ripped off in Poland; some big time (ie to the tune of 17.000 zl). This is in ways you wouldn't expect in, say, the UK or USA etc. In Bochnia I bought a pack of brand new DURACELL batteries from a decent-looking shop in "Pod Filarami". It's the only shop there which sells electrical stuff like calculators etc. OK that's small-time stuff, but it's still annoying and being ripped off all mounts up over a period of time.

Name and shame who ripped you off.

Genealogy / The Meaning and Origin of the Last name Czekaj [9]

Some Polish surnames are straight out of Monty Python. There are a few people I met called Jajecznica (Mr Scrambled Eggs!); or Wielobłota (Mr Loads-of-mud). Can you imagine having your name called out loud in your GP's surgery? And now for something completely different.....

News / The "Arbeit Macht Frei" sign theft from Oswiecim, Poland [240]

The modern version of 'Arbeit Macht Frei' is "Karma Yoga Liberates You", by a big business called the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres all over the world. They make you work till you "burn out" as they call it. Whatever you do don't give those greedy so-and-so's a single groszy, unless you're happy to finance another castle for them like the one they have in Paris (they say they're a charity - yeah right!). They now have at least two places in Poland.

...and?

OK, you bought batteries and...

Surely you know it's the principle, not the small change it cost, which is the point. Multiply that a few thousand times and you're rolling in it, mate. As for the 17.000 zl, that was for building work which was meantto be carried out. OK, call him a sucker, but he's a decent bloke who didn't deserve it. You just wait till you're ripped off.

Life / Ripped Off in Poland? - Expose here: [185]

Forget the f*g batteries, forget pencils and fans and cheap clothes. I started this thread so you guys can name and shame those who ripped you off. What crap did you buy, name the shop or shop the person who did the dirty on you. Names and addresses etc. I've been shat on in PL by MANY individuals who assume I have a hundred mansions in the USA and can afford to be ripped off. Quite simply they're jealous, church-going Catholics who steal often (except Sunday when they have to be seen going to communion). Well, that's my personal experience.
